thank you for posting this, coach nick. i initially thought this was going to be another "let's blame westbrook" video, but you finally got around to showing in-depth how awful scott brooks' offensive sets are. i'm tired of nba fans putting the blame on westbrook when scott brooks deserves just as much as, if not more, criticism than westbrook.
It's amazing to me OKC has kept Brooks so long he looks terrible when coaching against anybody not named the Spurs for some reason (go figure he or at least the team figured out the smartest coach but nobody else). Another thing is that is killing the Thunder is Westbrook and especially KD playing way too many minutes. Westbrook played a total of 285 minutes in the 1st round, KD 324. Compare that to CP3 who played 245 and Griffin playing 246 despite playing the same number of games in the 1st round, 7. As a Laker fan I used to get worried when Kobe was averaging over 40 mpg during their deep playoff runs, Durant averaged 46.3 minutes in the 1st round. They need cut his minutes if they don't want him run into the ground. They don't have the best depth but Sefolosha, Butler, Lamb are more capable than the players that were back ups for Kobe in the Laker's finals runs so there is no excuse not to rest him at least 3 or 4 more minutes. Imo Brooks needs to smarten up more than anything, Westbrook has been involving his teammates more the last several games and has been great outside of some turnovers which could be partially due to fatigue.
I love watching the Clippers, this team has Doc Rivers written all over it now, not only is their offense dynamite, but they play really good defense as well. I know it's part of the strategy if you're playing the Clippers and it certainly worked in game 1, but i think for a team like OKC to go to the hack a Jordan strategy is almost embarassing, caus they essentially admitted that they had no idea how to stop the Clippers's offense and that was the only way they could get stops. I gotta agree that if the Thunder don't start mixing it up on offense, this is gonna be a painful series for them and their fans, caus i don't know if KD and Westbrook can make enough tough shots in order for them to win 4 games in the series. Gonna be interesting how OKC responds in game 2.
I somehow became a DeAndre Jordan fan through the reviews of Clippers' games. He might not be an offensive thread, but there are so many things he does well that really help a team tremendously. Can't think of too many centers I'd rather have, to be honest. Great video Coach!
Back then when coach showed us how Scott Brooks didn't make eye contact with his players, I already knew he's not the one that'll bring OKC a championship
Coach Nick, can you do a breakdown on Sim Bhullar? He's the 7'5 Indian guy who played for NMSU last year. He declared for the 2014 NBA draft and will be the the first Indian to ever play in the NBA once he gets drafted. I honestly think that's huge news and needs more attention. Thanks!
Huge guys like him have such a huge incentive not to do college basketball. His career isn't going to be easier on his knees and other joints with a bunch of completely unnecessary college minutes under his belt.
Joel Embid was suppose to be a stud but the back injury issue has people giving a wrong impression. Thing is what impressed scouts with Embid is how he moved up and down the court. He is very fluid for a big guy. He doesn't move like say, Kelly Olynyk when going up and down the court.
Hey Coach! Great review I was wondering if you could do a breakdown of the Wizards as they seem to be playing good basketball and are challenging the pacers now. Thanks!
Coach, what do you make of Russell Westbrook always trying to beat the screen before the screener even get close to him? I'm not even a coach or anything but that bothers me so much lol Oh and when he get burn, he does that wrap around reach in crap he always does.
I had thought Durant would take over. But the lack of motion and action on their highly predictable sets put an even more interesting conundrum; OKC are killing themselves. Even if OKC finally gets in groove, the lack of motion to take it to a disciplined and coached Clips squad may be their undoing.
Why did they isolate Butler in the post? because he was guarded by jamal crawford who sucks at defense and is much smaller, so yeah in my opinion it was a good decision. great breakdown anyway :)
also, you should do a breakdown of what timberwolves need to change, and what coaching systems would work best for them, cos its ridiculous given their roster that they can't get to the playoffs
Regardless how this series will turn out. The difference in the half court offense between VDN and Rivers is like night and day. Griffin's emergence of a more variable game and a stacked roster definetely helps but doesn't really explain how lame the clippers slow game was last year.
tbh i dont understand why OKC doesnt put adam as starting C, whos quicker, taller and hustle way more harder than perkins. Especially against DeAndre whos sooo athletic.
Hey coach. Is it me or did the Thunder look completely confused on there defensive strategy all game long? Like I could not tell you one thing that the thunder tried to take away in Game 1.
Whenever you're ready u can talk about russel westbrook completely destroying Chris Paul as we all knew would happen considering he is one of the most competative players in the NBA. But we probably won't see that because u hate westbrook of course.
What do you think of the mark jackson firing, I thought he was doing good work with the warriors, more of the blame to why they can't get past the 1st round is due to bogut and his injuries surely?
I think Mark Jackson was a great coach, and he really turned the warriors into an amazing defensive team, but i think a coach who could organize the offense with more set plays trying to free up Curry a bit more often and not going to people in the post when it goes stagnant could turn the team into a top 3 team
yeah, but surely thats a change that could be made at assistant coach, i'd always argue defense first though. having to rely on jermaine o'neal as centre is never going to be great anyway :L
Darah Swinscoe I don't think it could be made with an assistant coach. THere were definitely questionable times in the regular season where Jackson could've ran better action so Curry or Klay doesn't have to try force a shot in, even though with their high shooting ability they could get it in. But more of it was apparent when Barnes was on the floor and he kept hogging the ball too much for his iso plays. I mean the Spurs are top 10'ish in defense but they do a great job hiding it because each 5 guys can easily pick their spot and make it in. If the Warriors defense flowed smoother, it could certainly help their defensive numbers against better teams who try to out-shoot them.
The Heat might give one game away at home, but I'd bet half of my life savings they win the series. The other half is just in case something freaky happens, like Lebron breaking his back or something.
heikiu96z They're underrated, but play the same style of basketball that the heat do, but Miami is better at it, has more experience doing it, and has the two best players in the series doing it. Also, the KG/Paul Pierce vs. Lebron/Wade dynamic plays into the Heat's favor, as Lebron and Wade still play like they did a few years ago, but Pierce and KG can't. If Pierce tries to guard LBJ like he used to, I don't think it'll end well for Brooklyn. I kinda hope you're right though, I want more seven gamers this round.
Jules Winnfield The net are slower and bigger than the heat, AK 47 can guard LBJ pretty well, the Brooklyn back court is very underated too because they are so big.
heikiu96z length is a bit of a value against the Heat. How much though in a 7 game series? we'll have to find out. I mean the cats had a banger in Jefferson but couldn't get a win over the Heat squad. Doesn't help nobody in the cats can defend the rim, a no no against a transition offense team.
If I'm the GM of OKC I should be thinking of this. Fire Scott Brooks and hire a much experienced coach in Jeff Van Gundy, 2nd Trade Westbrook and Ibaka to the Bobcats for Al Jefferson and Kemba Walker (not that easy) and 3rd make a run for Jarrett Jack that dude is a beast of the bench if Reggie Jackson needs to go so be it. Last but not the least give Jeremy Lamb a spot on the starting line up he is not James Harden why is OKC forcing him to be the 6th man when clearly he is more effective when starting.
>Russ and Ibaka for AL Jefferson and Kemba Walker and YOU KNOW the former OKC guy who works as GM for the Bobcats CHO will happily take that because Presti was being stupid to trade diamonds for manure.
***** Hey Coach, what do you think of Steven Adams? As a New Zealander and a huge NBA fan, it's great to see a kiwi out there on the court. What do you think of him, as I expected him to be worse. He seems to know his role - set screens, rebound, contest shots in the paint - and he seems to do it in the limited minutes he sees relatively well. What is your take from a completely un-biased American? Haha
So true, he breaks down Russ' triple double in a loss to show how many plays he thought Russ played poorly in to take away the luster from it but completely ignores the two triple doubles he got in a win. Nick being a coach I am completely baffled to how he rarely (if ever) talks about the INCREDIBLE effort Russell gives on damn near every play. It also seems like he's trying to make it look like Russell hinders Kevin Durant..as if KD is perfect. I love KD but so many damn times he can't get in position to even receive the pass because he's being out muscled and then flat out gives up in trying to get it. Russell on the other hand will kill himself to do whatever it takes, I don't give a fuck what anybody says this guy had THREE surgeries in ONE year and he still puts it all on the line it's so fucking inspirational and all you got is people asking him to be traded for Rondo. Honestly I sometimes hope it fucking happens just so Russ can prove to everybody that he can be a franchise player by himself. He never gets credit for how he literally carries OKC through long stretches of the game allowing KD to rest and then close the deal in fourth quarters when the defense has to account for both WB and KD.
Scott Brooks gotta go he isnt even coaching offence how can u blame westbrook for taking crazy shots when they dont even run plays OKC wont win until they get a better coach
Scott Brooks is going the way of Mark Jackson after this series. He is a terrible coach who, by looking at the plays he draws up (virtually none), knows very little about strategy, adjustments, match-ups and has no control of his players. Russell Westbrook is also a terrible point guard. He can't even consistently run the 3 plays Brooks has in his book without turning it over every other play. Terrible team that has been winning games the last few years through player talent and athleticism alone.
thank you for posting this, coach nick. i initially thought this was going to be another "let's blame westbrook" video, but you finally got around to showing in-depth how awful scott brooks' offensive sets are. i'm tired of nba fans putting the blame on westbrook when scott brooks deserves just as much as, if not more, criticism than westbrook.
+ReCharredSigh The blame falls on Westbrook aswell you can't let your emotions affect your game like that.
It's amazing to me OKC has kept Brooks so long he looks terrible when coaching against anybody not named the Spurs for some reason (go figure he or at least the team figured out the smartest coach but nobody else).

Alot of those game were in ot
Storm Obano that's true but a few of those game Brooks went the entire second half without sitting KD at all
i think that oklahoma's coach should watch this video..
I love watching the Clippers, this team has Doc Rivers written all over it now, not only is their offense dynamite, but they play really good defense as well. Great video Coach!
Surprised Russ wasn't completely blamed for once...
caron butler's only post move is the face-up jumper... noticed that since he was still in the mavs
haha, you made my day man.
Honestly watching these just makes it clearer why kd wanted out
Back then when coach showed us how Scott Brooks didn't make eye contact with his players, I already knew he's not the one that'll bring OKC a championship
when was this? link maybe?
Clippers vs heat calling it
Heat yes, clippers no
Thunders vs heat
rollbots51 Yep Kevin Durants gon' git eem!
I called it pre-season when I saw the Rivers/Reddick/Dudley/Collison moves Spurs would be a tough out though.
Thanks!
*If he gets drafted, he's by no means a lock to be drafted. I hope he is though, he seems like a good kid and a decent player.
However, he's not good enough to get drafted. His brother, who's much more athletic will probably get drafted i na few years when he declares.
Huge guys like him have such a huge incentive not to do college basketball. His career isn't going to be easier on his knees and other joints with a bunch of completely unnecessary college minutes under his belt.
Pär Sekut But you can't jump straight from high school.
Joel Embid was suppose to be a stud but the back injury issue has people giving a wrong impression. Thing is what impressed scouts with Embid is how he moved up and down the court. He is very fluid for a big guy. He doesn't move like say, Kelly Olynyk when going up and down the court.
Never thought coaches were so imperative too success in the NBA, thanks coach.
Hey Coach! Great review I was wondering if you could do a breakdown of the Wizards as they seem to be playing good basketball and are challenging the pacers now. Thanks!
Clippers, the team that seems like they can beat anybody in the west but never made it to the final
Great analysis as always Coach.
Great analysis Coach.
Refs ain't going to foul DJ like that the whole series, Thunder fans. You better believe that next game is DJ's.
what's the deal with westbrook being not part of the huddle anyway?
This will be an interesting series.
nice breakdown coach
Okc Fans were really confident coming into this series.
Man, Scott Brooks needs to be more innovative. With his abilities, Kevin Durant should score at least 35 every game with some creativity.
exactly its pretty easy to stop an offense when the team runs the same plays every time
+yagimaynee If isolating KD and just sitting there even counts as a play lol.
So... DeAndre is getting screwed over by the refs?
Scott Brooks should seriously start watching these videos lol
Complete 1st half domination
Why is refereing so crappy the last two years? I feel like the playoffs in 2012 were refed better.
Coach, what do you make of Russell Westbrook always trying to beat the screen before the screener even get close to him? I'm not even a coach or anything but that bothers me so much lol Oh and when he get burn, he does that wrap around reach in crap he always does.
Clippers got this.
Spurs over the past 2 games look absolutely amazing and should probably still be favourites. However a Clipps-Spurs Western finals will be awesome.
I had thought Durant would take over. But the lack of motion and action on their highly predictable sets put an even more interesting conundrum; OKC are killing themselves. Even if OKC finally gets in groove, the lack of motion to take it to a disciplined and coached Clips squad may be their undoing.
Do you have a video that explains what "running horns" means?
Why did they isolate Butler in the post? because he was guarded by jamal crawford who sucks at defense and is much smaller, so yeah in my opinion it was a good decision. great breakdown anyway :)
I'm a clipper fan but that's not the OKC I know from the RS. Clippers went 0-3.
also, you should do a breakdown of what timberwolves need to change, and what coaching systems would work best for them, cos its ridiculous given their roster that they can't get to the playoffs
Omg can’t believe how much Steven Adams has changed

All road team is gonna win in the second round.
The Heat might give one game away at home, but I'd bet half of my life savings they win the series. The other half is just in case something freaky happens, like Lebron breaking his back or something.
Jules Winnfield
The nets are underated, i mean, their bench are so deep that they can play 11 guys in the playoff. I think Net Heat is going to 7.

Clippers vs spurs western conference finals pacers vs heat eastern conference finals. Then clippers vs heat finals. I say heat win in 6
I think they posted up Caron Butler because he was being guarded by the notoriously bad defender known as Jamal Crawford.
Hate running horns and the dumbass point guard doesn't run off my shoulder. Then my coach tells me to set a proper screen. Pisses me off so much
you can already see signs of the refs favoring OKC
8 3pointers by Chris Paul ,am i dreaming?
No sir, you are witnessing greatness.
***** Hey Coach, what do you think of Steven Adams? As a New Zealander and a huge NBA fan, it's great to see a kiwi out there on the court. What do you think of him, as I expected him to be worse. I hope Clips will 4:0 Okc
Welp that rlly didn’t happen at all LMFAOAOA
Either VanGundy to OKC makes them champs.
Brooks needs to go. His offensive system sucks
same with perkins.
Same with Russ...
The refs are gunning for DeAndre Jordan.
Where is the video of how Russel Westbrook destroyed Clippers on game 2? oh wait, Bballbreakdown is a Westbrook hater lol.
So true, he breaks down Russ' triple double in a loss to show how many plays he thought Russ played poorly in to take away the luster from it but completely ignores the two triple doubles he got in a win. You do hate a lot on Westbrook dont you? Not that I don't
Scott Brooks gotta go he isnt even coaching offence how can u blame westbrook for taking crazy shots when they dont even run plays
OKC wont win until they get a better coach
OKC's coach is not gonna help them...
Scott Brooks is going the way of Mark Jackson after this series. He is a terrible coach who, by looking at the plays he draws up (virtually none), knows very little about strategy, adjustments, match-ups and has no control of his players.

Terrible team that has been winning games the last few years through player talent and athleticism alone.
Heat need a new challenge in the finals, boi spurs boo thunder
he failed in game 6...he wasnt assertive enough...this is why he has shown failure in the playoffs throughout his career.
Brooks has no offensive philosophy
these videos are gonna be the downfall of Scott Brooks...
It is clear that Westbrook is utter cancer to the Thunder.
The clippers are just better coached
will see tonight bitches ;)
Destroy ??? Hahahahahaha
first
The clippers never won anything 💀
Both Clippers and Thunder are pure trash.
