One sad thing the developers could have added is a K8 "nudging" one of the mind coral infused bodies, before making some sad beeping noises when it doesn't move.
That little happy tune it makes when saving you never stops being sweet. It might be that the little one is programmed to detect an emergency situation, and in such an event, tries to follow personell closely and be ready to assist while making sure they do not get stuck. I did not know we could hunt down K8 for the chip, that hurts my heart. Frictional Games really went in for making K8 appear like a pet dog. Interesting variations for Kate!
I know the one guy is a human sentience in a robot completely oblivious to the situation and the other is just a cute lil robot with simple AI but still, i can't bring myself to bring it down. Maybe because the other is also living a life, and thus releasing him is an act of mercy. But then even making this choice K8 gets scared of you and it's so sad 😭
I think that would have resulted in the same scenario where you needed to chase them with the baton. If the robot did have a basic level of sentence to cast judgement on someone for something they did, they likely know what's actually keeping them alive.
Crazy how many models are hidden away in the game files. Now don't get me wrong, soma is absolutely the better game for it after all the changes. But one can't help but want to play other iterations
@@AK-mf1oe well, presumably a version of Doctor Munshi with a Speaker for a Mouth that was originally going to feature in some kind of hallucination sequence
Thanks for the video man. I'd say that K8, despite its strange behavior, is not a WAU creature that has a human conscience inside since it is almost pristine, no a trace of structure gel which is the only way the WAU can interact with stuff. In my opinion given how was K8 in the past the devs are just messing with us
Javid Goya doesn't have visible structure gel either, nor does the mockingbird in "SOMA: Item #4017". The WAU doesn't need to cover something in structure gel to create mockingbirds. It only needs a brain scan.
@@xxfalconarasxx5659 Mmm... You're right, I was checking the mockingbird's video and Goya indeed doesn't have any structure gel, so is possible that K8 might have a conscience too
@@eloi4297 I think the structure gel is for the purpose of creating, modifying, and repairing their bodies. Their minds however, are merely a product of brain scans being uploaded to their cortex chip. Also, it could be that they both have structure gel, but it's hidden internally. We see this with the Dunbat, which looks normal on the outside, but is infested on the inside.
@eloi4297 I don't think the K8 has a conscience. The UH3 bull I don't think can speak normally without a brain scan. If K8 had a brain scan it would most likely speak with a human voice.
SOMA is one of my favourite games of all time, and it's really cool to see someone doing these in-depth commentary style videos on the lore and development. Keep it up, these videos are awesome
Having these "abandoned assets" and story builds are always a clue on what could technicly still belong in the universe. K8 being affected by the WAU, the fact we got a choice to let the WAU survive on earth, i think it´s a clue that this other idea is still there, the consequence. So to say they chose to make a prequel to a game instead of the game. Either way i loved Soma, makes you wonder if there had ever been plans for a prequel. or maybe i´m talking out of my ass you all probably got way more actual intel then me.
Have you considered doing model showcases of Amnesia Custom Monsters from amnesia custom stories? Like Tenebris Lake, A Cowards Debt, or The Great Work?
@@Krcun774 ain't only one, really would want to see more, as legit Frictional Games no doubt invested a lot of time into this game yet so much was scrapped too.

I sometimes think that if Simon had just asked K8 really politely for their tool chip that the K8 would have given it up for him.

@@cursedhawkins1305 Isn't the cortex chip keeping them alive?
The old build SOMA lore is really interesting
I always thought K8 was a subtle joke about how K9 sounds like canine, and how it acts somewhat like a dog ingame.
I would really love to see a Soma DLC that explores this more alien side it use to have.

There's also one of the older builds where at least one of them was apparently able to speak.
