I share your sentiment of the 124270. I too love mine and feel it has met all my expectations. It’s a watch that appeals to me and often overlooked by others. In fact my wife wasn’t noticed it on my wrist for the last month… perhaps this has more to do with my marriage than the watch. 🤔
I recently purchased this piece on 12/22 and I love it. It makes me look at my Collection now and contemplate the fate of some of my beloved pieces. It is the benchmark of elegance, simplicity, versatility, and durability. I love the 124270.
Congratulations for your new Explorer. Also don't be quick to sell other pieces just right now. You need time to settle with the Explorer and most surely other pieces will find moments and places to be with you too.
This is such a wonderful review on so many levels. Considered, measured, artistic and philosophical. I share your spirit of adventure and discovery whether it’s the mountains or a new town or city. I wear a Tudor BB36 almost all the time for most of the reasons you mentioned. It wears a little bigger than the explorer I’ve tried on but it lacks the accuracy and a little finesse when compared to the explorer, especially around the case and bracelet. The explorer is the next watch I’m saving for.
The BB36 is a great watch I think. I've tried it a few times and was in my short list before the Explorer. I think the memories attached to those watches make them even more important than the watch itself.
I've been watching review videos for a few years now. This was refreshing. Great sense of humor, love the extended real life experience that you share here. That is so relevant. Well done.
Thank you. This is by far the most balanced review I have viewed on the Explorer 36. I visited a Rolex AD yesterday and put myself on the list, which I have to say was a very strange ‘non buying’ experience. Your video addressed all of my hopes and fears regarding my future purchase, even though I remain still fairly apprehensive as like you this is my first venture into a watch of this price point by quite some margin. Finally, I smiled when you spoke of detail and proportion having a calming effect on you, I thought I was the only person to experience this from inanimate objects. Thank you once again.
Thanks for your words. I really appreciate them. The new Explorer is a strange creature to be honest. Now, after three years with it, much has happened. I have even been disappointed a couple of times, but I have reengaged with it and come to appreciate to more levels than I expected. It's difficult to put the finger on what it makes the watch be so special, but again, it has to do with the design and proportions. Sure, it's not a true exploring watch, from the romantic point of view of the term, but a great watch to have in your life and the future. And the watch and the bracelet is one thing that belong together.
I could not say it any better! Bravo and thank you! (I'm picking mine up at the AD tomorrow and looking forward to the start of my story with the Explorer!)
Congratulations on the wonderful review. The final reflection is very elegant and profound. You have already grasped the essence of the passion of collecting watches without actually having pieces of the highest level. Good boy!
Have been wearing the 36mm for two weeks now…I wanted an everyday watch that was subtle yet luxurious. This is the perfect everyday watch, most comfortable watch I have owned. I like to go “unnoticed “ as well! Great review.
I am waiting for my explorer for a while now... My dealer told me I am the next in line and your video made me very inpatient. Like you said... I cannot wait to wear this explorer for 90% of the time and enjoy the hell out of it.
Great personal experience review. I have a 30+ yr old 1016 bought new worn almost 24/7...running, swimming, ice hockey, tubing, cycling...on a perlon now so even more comfortable and unnoticeable...wear it for myself not others...Enjoy your watch for years!
Oh, the 1016 is so very much beautiful. I even dream of ever see one in person and maybe try it on. I believe is the most beautiful Explorer ever. I hope to enjoy my 124270 as much as you enjoy yours!
@@TheWatchFrame been going to AD's to see the 124270 in person ... no luck :( ... thinking of buying but one of the things that makes the 1016 a great watch is the readability and that is because the most important things on the dial are the hands...on the 1016 the hands are the first things you see as the indexes and numerals are smaller...on the 124270 i feel you see the numerals first so the 1016 is easier to read than the 124270 at a quick glance ...how do you find it ? its so hard to tell even watching on YOutube videos
@@davidd1016 well, I wish I could compare this one with the 1016 but I actually never have had the chance to see one in the metal so really can't tell. I guess that if I had the 1016 I probably wouldn't consider the new Explorer, but then again, being vintage you might need to be more careful when in the water. I don't know. About legibility and comparing with the closest one to the 1016 I have, the Caravelle Sea Hunter, I really don't find much of a difference to get the time at a glance, but then again I believe the applied hour markers make the watch a different creature by itself. The polished hour hands play very nicely with the hour markers at different angles of light hitting the surfaces and is kind of... how can I put this, relaxing. I think the new Explorer is extremely well balanced in that respect. But again, I can't really compare with the 1016 that is still my favorite watch of all times.
@@TheWatchFrame Too bad your not in Toronto we could swap for a day :) Anyways thanks for the response. I wear mine in pool, lake, shower and playing hockey.....I try not to think about the $$$ ...and i totally understand when you say there is a feeling/connection you get from your watch .... keep the videos coming.
this is the best review of this watch. no history lesson, multiple views and long enough to see how the watch sits on the wrist on diffefent from different angles. perfect video
This is the 3rd or 4th time I’m watching your Explorer video! Great video, great action shots of the watch and I can’t wait to get it in a few years! Thanks friend!
Quite a thoughtful and well crafted review. The photography and editing were top notch. Plus, nothing compares to living with a watch for this length of time and really giving yourself the chance to understand it from every angle. Thanks for sharing your observations and excellent photography.
Thanks Micah, really appreciate your words. It's been quite hard to edit the video. Had to redo all the background music as had issues with the first version.
@@TheWatchFrame well the time was well worth it. By the way, I’m surely not the only one who would be interested to hear a one year review, when the time is right. Perhaps you’ll have some more interesting observations to share by that point.
I’ve had this watch since May of 2021. It’s my grail watch. My initial experience was a bit surprising since I’m not used to wearing watches below 38mm. It took about a week to get used to it. Since then, I have enjoyed wearing it anywhere and in every occasion. It’s a watch that only the wearer notices and enjoys - Flying under the radar is a good thing esp in crowded places. My Bigeye gets noticed more than my explorer. It really is a piece that every collector should have.
I really like it to be so understated. Nobody notices it, or at least, very few people. I've only had two persons to notice it and one was a watchmaker :D
Thanks a lot for your words. Really is one watch of a kind and as you say, it represents the gentleman's choice very well, and also the kind of person really to act after the necessary considerations.
I am about 9 months into my ownership of my Addiesdive AD2123-1 quartz Everest homage and, unlike you, I am still absolutely delighted with it. I would recommend this watch to everyone due to its beauty, perfect size and amazing accuracy (+1sec/week). I find it amusing that you mention the "scratched Rolex problem" which is due to 904 steel being softer than 316. Funny how rolex never mentions this.... The reason that people have not mentioned your watch is that everyone, EVERYONE assumes it is a fake!
I wear my 34mm OP for everything. I've had it for almost 3 years. Covered in scratches. Especially the bracelet. And I love everything about it. It flies under the radar. Zero bling. Nobody notices it. Happy to see you wearing yours as it was meant to be. Great video. Wear that gem in good health.
The size is perfect and it looks great on you! My wrist is a bit shy of 18.5 cm, I'm quite tall, and I am a thick guy. I think someone like me could be worried about the size or what other people may think, BUT I do not find it small at all. It wears great on me and on anyone who wears one. Only people with some confidence issues scream about it. So I totally agree with you. Wear the watch you want to wear. It is a classic beauty!!
Very well expressed. Yes I was hesitant about 36mm sizes at first, based basically on the comments of other people, until I tried one and realized it was the perfect size for a field watch. This is important, because the size related to a type of watch is very important too. I find then this 36mm a very good one. Even if it's actually 35,4mm it feels a bit bigger than other 36 and 36,5mm I had the chance to compare recently. Don't know, maybe the dial makes it appear a bit larger or with more presence although the bracelet is thinner. But nevertheless, while hiking it's a wonder. More people should try theses sizes for themselves and yes, not worry so much about what others think as there will always be different approaches to watches. To each their own.
I walk down the street as I hold my young son's hand. He is irreplaceable, so no you should not feel bad for having a expensive watch. It does not stand out because you are not overly proud you appreciate the watch this is all that matters. God bless you. Enjoy the mountains. Gracias.
Hey, you used your watch exactly as it was meant to be used! It's tough - I wear my 214270 all the time, cycling, cooking, sleeping. It's meant to be worn. Enjoy your Rolex!
Great Video. You can easily remove scratches from a brushed surface using gray scotch-brite pads. just follow the grain and within seconds those scratches will disappear. I use it on my submariner bracelet and clasp all the time.
Thanks for sharing your watch journey…I resonate with your story and yes the perfect watch is the watch you enjoy the most and wear because you add character to it not the other way around….cheers to the explorer 36….❤️🔥🙌
Great video, informative, personal, honest. These are the types of reviews I love! I’ve just bought the black bay pro but the 36mm explorer is my dream. Wear it in good health 👍🏻
Brilliant. Thank you for doing this. I am with you on all points. It's my new best friend ha ha. It has not left my wrist in almost two months. Cheers to you.
This is a very well crafted and well edited video. On top of that, your presentation is very calming and relatable. I have an older generation Explorer, and this reminds me of why I love it so much, and why I never take it off. Ever. You have a new subscriber with me. Be well.
I have been wanting a 36 explorer for very long and finally got the call from the AD a week ago. I am still very afraid of scratching it, but trust that I will soon honor its name and take it out everywhere… great review!
Wow, what a wonderful review. Thank you. A beautiful watch. I tried it on a few days ago and as a big guy, I thought it would be too small. But it felt so comfortable. I just love a clean, simple dial and that’s what daws me to this watch. All the best to you!!
This was a fantastic review. I’ve just registered my interest for an Explorer after years of wanting one. I like the Explorer because if all the reasons you mentioned. I think it’s the perfect watch to wear all the time and can be dressed up or down.
Great. Yes it totally is such a watch. I find very rare situations in which I would wear something different. Maybe a diver when diving a bit more than usual and using a G-shock for pure beating purposes.
@@TheWatchFrame You capture that feeling of understated substance in your video. The mood and atmosphere you create is one of quiet, refined, sophistication, in which you can appreciate these features of the watch. Thanks again!
I have a quite big wrist and usually go for at leats 41mm, but the 36mm Explorer is an icon. Like a small Reverso, I would be happy to wear it in 36mm. Some smaller watches are getting more popular. Big is so... Yesterday.
The 36-39mm sizes, depending on the type of watch, are a bit more elegant in general. But yes, the smaller sizes are coming back. Easier to wear in many occasions.
Thanks for taking the time to share your ownership experience which means a lot more than just another review. Am so glad that the Explorer returned to form, 36mm is the perfect size for everyday wearing. Keep us updated with your watch journey :D
Thanks a lot for your words. To learn that you like this kind of reviews mean a lot to me. I put a lot of effort in them and try to bring my most personal feelings about the watch. Yes, the size is just about perfect. Hope to share the one year mark quite soon!
It's so funny. I also had the Hamilton and was considering Sinn and others... but after selling everything, I realised that the Explorer is really the only watch worth saving for... it will take me a while but it'll be worth it. Thank you so much for all the detail in your video...I will wear mine and scratch it up as much as possible ha ha
I love how you enjoy this watch on your adventures. It it an EXPLORER afterall! Thanks for the video, I am not officially convinced this will be my next watch
You mean that you are "not" convince or are "now" convinced? This watch is amazing. I'm lately a bit more worried about taking it to adventures and usually end up with the Traska, but well, I might need to force myself using the Explorer more even if it's risky.
@@TheWatchFrame yes, sorry for the typo. I meant to say that I am absolutely convinced that this will be my next watch. My only other watch I own right now is the Hamilton Khaki Automatic like yours. I wear it daily and I prefer how it looks now all scratched and I even have some dents and weld spatter on it. I certainly won’t be welding with my Explorer but I will happily wear it while swimming, hiking / camping, and in daily use in general. The scratches add character in my opinion. Thanks for your reply
@@maximilianoesteban8740 no worries. I thought that was what you meant. Yes, the scratches are part of the journey and fixate the fact that we are having an active life that involves the things around us. The watch, somehow, tends to reflect the way we are, the way we behave, in my humble opinion, with other people and the environment too. Maybe that is the reason I like this Explorer so much. Tries to fly under the radar but get the work done. Maybe not fancy and not in an exuberant way, but with elegance and determination.
Absolutely brilliant! It was great to see a review where the watch is clearly being used for purpose, rather than kept in a box and pulled out to make YT videos. The only element that puts me off of the Explorer is that I spend so much time in water (not deep any more, necessarily, but frequently) and I'm not sure that I'd have confidence in the seal (if anyone can share experience of that I'd be grateful). Thanks for there video ;-)
Thanks to you for commenting. I have to confess lately I'm not taking the watch out a lot and use the Traska Summiteer most of the time while exploring, but from what I have seen from my watchmaker serving decades old Rolexes I do trust their seal and even more than the ones of other watches and I would include some of the divers I have. The Explorer, and other sport Rolex model for that matter are really over-engineered. My main concern though is not about water resistance, this watch can handle even snorkeling without any issue, but hitting or losing it. It's a lot of money to risk. If that is not much of a concern, this watch sure withstands frequent water. It is design for that purpose and the gasket and double crown lock is reassuring.
I enjoyed your video very much. I have a 34mm OP black dial, and am thinking of adding the 36mm Explorer. It was also very amusing to see that I also have a Glycine Airman Base 22!
Yes, the Explorer is a very nice addition to almost any collection and a great companion for the beautiful OP you have. Glad to find more people with the Glycine Airman Base 22. A cracking watch! Now I have it being serviced at my brother is law's so might take some time to be back with me :D
Love your reviews! Love your watch! Love the pics of you with it. And like the other videos, it shows how great it looks on a bigger or normal size wrist.
In my case only one person, a watchmaker, noticed the Explorer and was surprised I got it. Other than that people around have no idea of this watch. Maybe the best way of having a Rolex without much of the stigma.
Thank you very much for this video; very well done and somehow relaxing. I’m on the waiting list for this watch, as I’ve owned the 39mm version but somehow it didn’t feel quite right. Tough to put a finger on it. What is your wrist size, and if you mentioned in the video and I missed it then I apologize. Happy New Year!
@@TheWatchFrameI just received the 36 and I am struck how small it appears. May I ask how tall you are and your initial impressions. Also did you try the 40? I am 195cm tall and 95kg. My wrist is 19cm. Thanks for your help. J
@@GroomsJk I was 196 cm tall but now I'm probably more 195 cm like you too and my wrist is around 18.5 cm, so. pretty close. I got the watch in 2021, and was one of the first to be able to buy and review the new 36mm one. The 40mm has only been launched recently although some many more years earlier I tried the 39mm, but wasn't that much into watches (and they offered it to me at back at the day 4.000 euros retail + discount). The 39 looked very good on me to be honest. Only I personally like classic looking watches as they are less intrusive and believe more versatile. When I started my new passion for watches I found the 38mm Hamilton Khaki Field automatic to be too small so I got the 42 only to realize, months later, that had been a bad decision for me and sold it. I rediscovered the Exploer 1016 (my grail) and was unsure about the 36mm size being as tall as I am. Got a cheap 36 design copy watch of the Explorer 1016 and after a few weeks I was sold to this size. It takes time for the size to settle. I think the size works only some people might not be prepared. I can wear anything from 34 to 43 without a problem. 36-39 and even up to40-41 for divers and GMT is my goldilocks zone. In the case of the Explorer, the 36 make is more a dressy elegant watch and right now is being used as such, and not a lot of time. Other than that I take the Summiteer 36.5mm that wears like a 37.5 watch to true explorations and feel very good with them. I'd suggest to give the watch a couple of weeks for the size to settle, but if not happy, I don't think it will be too difficult to reach for the 40mm one which, having the same dial proportions, would wear more like a 39 watch and be quite alright too.
@@TheWatchFrame Wow. Thank you for the comprehensive reply. It is very helpful. I am glad to have an interaction on this subject with someone who is my size. There are a few reasons why I was surprised by the size. 1) The size appears large in pictures and video; even the pictures I took of myself recently. 2) Before buying this watch, I was wearing my Apple Ultra for my triathlon training and business. That watch is a whopping 49mm. 3) Finally, the previous luxury watches I have owned were the 119900 Rolex (price got so high I decided to cash out) and the Seiko SLA025 which I sold because it didn't make sense to own a 5K watch that had an accuracy +7s/d. These watches measured 40mm and 45mm, respectively. I will take your advice and wear for a few weeks and see if the size grows on me. Moreover, it will give me an opportunity to wear with my business attire. I am in sales and dress in a suit or jacket when visiting customers. I like this Rolex because I am a very active person who enjoys mountaineering, surfing and fitness in general. So, my plan is to wear it all the time regardless of the magical appearance of scratches:). From a design POV, I think Rolex would have been better served to hit the middle of the 36 and 39 widths and keeping the 20mm LW. Then the 40mm release would not have been necessary. Finally, do you think this watch will be discontinued? If it is, it will likely become a great investment overnight like the Sea Dweller 116600 that I owned. Again, thanks for the commentary and very nice videos. J
That last bit was hilarious...I only have my 5600 square left (same as yours), and in my mind once I get the Explorer that will be the end...buuuuut... I really doubt it...I will start craving the yellow green or red OP.....omega Aqua terra on rubber.,.. and on and on and on....but the Explorer will surely be the one that matters and goes with me everywhere. Bravo. Excellent video. I'm so happy about your conclusions...... I have tried several watches including the Speedy, old Aqua Terra and Hamilton....I only have the G shock left.... its a slow waiting game now. I can't wait but I will
Thank-you for another wonderful video. I love how you show the watch on other straps, it helps with the visual perspective of the watch in day to day use. Maybe you could do a video on the straps you have found appealing on the watch. I love the Tropic and tan leather straps you have. What is your wrist size in cm? What brand is the leather strap? Many thanks again
This is my favorite watch on my favorite watch channel. Thank you for the calming effect your videos provide. I would love to own this watch, but I've always been afraid of spending the money on something like this. You've definitely made me give the matter more thought, though. Also, may I ask how old you are? I'm 38 and am thinking that maybe this can be a good 40th birthday present to myself if I keep working hard and saving up for it.
I'm in the same boat. 37 and saving for one when I'm 40... I've had many watches from Omega, Seiko, Hamilton, Casio... but I feel that waiting for this Explorer will be the best choice. And keeping the G shock square dw5600-e as my other beater watch
Hi! I'm 49 as a matter of fact. So this is kind of a pre 50's birthday present too, hehe. Yes, this sure can be something to look forward to mark any milestone. In our case this truly was to mark the selling of a property we had some difficulties selling, thus being kind of a new start and important milestone in our road.
Great review. I like that you wear the watch above the wrist bone as it should be worn. The size is perfect on you. Its just perfect, understated maybe but see it as class. How did you get behind the wheel of an Ineos Grenadier?
He, he, thanks. Yes I got invited by Grenadier to test one of the pre production models. Have some more footage and tried to put a video together but unfortunately it was too shaky.
My family history; and my own study, ownership and experience with modern and vinatage Rolex, Tudor and other brands since 1982, leads me to state that the Oyster case in either 34mm or 36mm is the epitome of daily horological ownership. Next to reserecting the 36mm 1970's/ early 1980's steel Datejust, this is probably the best perfect 'one' watch a man could own in his lifetime. When it came out I wept, and it gave me new-found respect for Rolex, which I previously lost with their modern flare and larger case sizes. As Longinnes says, "elegance is an attitude", not size.
Total agree with you, very good review, I bought this same explorer 3 months ago and for me represent more of a normal watch, it's a celebration of owning my first rolex! It feels strong its very precise and go well in every situation, and if in my life I'm going to buy other luxury watches this one I want to keep with me forever!
A great video. I think one day, I will add this to the fold. My only Rolex is the Milgauss GV with the blue face. Quirky and not mainstream, but I love it. Thanks for sharing your experiences.
Hi, that's a Caravelle Sea Hunter Devils Diver 666. Vintage 36.5mm watch from the Vietnam era. Very hard to find and expensive in good condition. Manual winding. The dial is Explorer or more accurate, Commando like, paying homage also to the Tudor Ranger. More pictures here: www.flickr.com/photos/oneras/albums/72157718919381811.
What a great review and I share your thoughts. I have been considering exchanging my 124270 for the Exp2 as it has more presence. But this feedback has given me some food for thought. Love your collection btw
Magnificent review. Always end up coming back to this review whenever I feel I should own the explorer. I enjoy how you integrated your philosophical view throughout the video with your personal touch.
Thanks a lot. I really appreciate it. I will be preparing the one year owner experience in a couple of months time. There will not be a lot of new content, but will update my thoughts on the watch. Thanks for commenting.
Best review and best video for this Rolex, the coffee is the best part for me. This poison video made me to start saving for joining the explorer club, black dial for sure 😃
The Explorer and the Oyster-Perpetual are the two most non-ostentatious Rolexes in our world. I have worn my OP on a Sri Lankan train in broad daylight and there was no attention from the other passengers :)
Yes, that is true. That is the reason I like this type of watch so much. You wear a great reliable piece because you like it, not to impress others, and being so subtle, easier to use it without being noticed.
Thank you for your review. I really enjoy it, wonderful words you said. And i love the Explorer black dial too. Shame that i cant afford it at the moment. One day perhaps.
Hang out there. One never know when you might get to option to have it too. I didn't really expect to ever be able to get one. Not in my wildest dream. This said, and I know there's no substitute if you want the Explorer, keep in mind that the watch does not make the man, but the man the watch. There are beautiful exploring and adventure watches and hope to make a video about this as my journey can reflect some of the phases we all go through this hobby in connection with the Explorer.
By far the best video of the Explorer I have seen. Very good review and despite it being a smallish watch, it looks really good on you. I've been waiting for this one. And waiting. And waiting. I've all but given up. I did pick up the new Speedmaster last January and I LOVE it! If I had to choose an only watch, that could almost be it (if only it were 2mm smaller in diameter).
Thanks a lot for your words. I really like the Speedmaster a lot. In my latest approach to watches, the Speedmaster was high in my influence list (because it was the Hamilton Murph that sparked it all again - and Hamilton hadn't make the production model yet), specially with the space exploration connection. And I'm so tempted each time I see at the same AD I got the Explorer... I agree, the Speedmaster is the one iconic watch (only the water resistance can be questioned of course) you can have for practically any occasion (and a Seiko for swimming).
@@TheWatchFrame Yes I have a few Seikos, but the Speedmaster has a 50M WR and according to Omega it's true 50M, so absolutely no issue there. You could take it swimming for sure.
I had the opportunity to see one at my local AD. They told me at the beggining it was already taken, but latter told me it was available for US$9.000 and I think it´s over priced. I wanted to love it but I did not hit the mark, I did like it a lot, but I am hesitant. I don´t own another Rolex but I feel I can find a better deal in the current bear market.
They offered you a new one for that price? Or was it second hand. Anyway, I believe that's a lot of money. I'd say that the watch is worth around 4.000 euros + the price you pay for the brand marking. Anything above that is quite a personal willing to pay over retail. I got it new at retail price before the last increase of prices, over a year ago, and still think is way too much money for a watch. Prices might settle in the following months is the trend of lowering prices is confirmed, but I'm in no way an expert here.
Nice video! I don’t buy this thing about it going below the radar, or not being noticed at all; Spotters” in London or people who know about fine watches will know exactly what you’re wearing so nobody should ever wear an explorer complacently.
Yes, you are probably right. While it goes very much under the radar, I think now it's more about other people in general. But it's still a Rolex and thieves, as you mention, have the trained eye to notice and potentially steal. At the end of the day, one has to be cautious with anything expensive worn.
Fabulous review. I can relate to many aspects touched on here. Especially "calming", not only when on the wrist but in relation to the hobby itself. The perspective this watch gives to one's collection is hard to under-estimate. Unboxing my 1996 Explorer was a unique experience. Hard to describe without sounding completely mad, so let's just say I felt a great sense of peace. Kevin O'Leary often remarks on his Watch Collecting addiction... "Oh, it's a disease". The Rolex Explorer is probably the most effective cure...well for those of us who aren't extremely wealthy investors :) The Rolex Explorer is an Icon, the most perfect watch ever made and yet almost completely anonomous. How is this possible?
Yes, that is a gre at question. My take is that the design, size and features allow the watch to fall in between the cracks, hills and valleys of the everyday life. It is there to be reliable and to be seen when needed, but understated and "smallish" when you don't want to be in the middle screaming for attention.
You deserve much more subs. Thanks to YT recommendation in my quest for Explorer I. Not sure how difficult or long the wait will be in current market to buy it from an AD.
Hi Ravi, thanks a lot for your words. I'm working on a long term review of the Explorer. I'm working on the script right now. Hope this will bring a couple more subscribes. I have quite a few plans for the channel. About the waiting, I'm hearing reports of people getting theirs now, so, seems it could be around a year and a half, but that might vary a lot.
Great review. A question: how does this watch compare with the Smith’s Everest you made mention of? Does the Smith’s wear larger than the Explorer? I know the lug widths are different and am wondering if the Explorer would be much different than my Smith’s Everest. Thank you!
I can't really compare now as I sold the Everest so take this with a grain of salt. I'd say it might wear approximately the same but, from what I recall, more comfortable due to the quality of the Rolex Oyster bracelet. Also the shape of the lugs is different, being straight instead of the curved ones of the Everest. We cannot forget the applied hour markers with their bold appearance that make the watch stand out together with the perfectly proportioned dial. The Everest had a more vintage looks with the painted numerals and quite different font. So while very similar in size, at the end of the day to me they look quite different
Great review!! I have the same size wrist and have an older 36mm explorer, the 114270. I’m on the list for this newer explorer (and have been for 5 months now) and really hope to get the call one day soon!
Very well scripted! I am reluctant to call this a review. It’s fine storytelling and expression of ideas with clarity. And that is exactly what makes this video amazing. I came looking for information about the watch and ended the video with a different perception on how to enjoy a watch.
Wow, thanks a lot of your words. I agree, this is more a review of my personal experience with a watch thus not a formal product review. I believe the way a type of watch makes us feel is sometimes more important that the actual objective facts of the watch itself. Thanks for your comment and your support. I really appreciate it.
This is one of the best reviews of the 124270. You made your long-term experiences and presented them in this video with some nice shots. Well done.
Thanks a lot!
Long-term experience? Some of us have been wearing their watch for 4 decades 😅
@@phmwu7368 5 decades for my sub! Or does half a century sound longer?
And we are still waiting on your reviews! LOL
Great review. The Explorer 36 is luxury without trying make everyone notice it, oozes class.
That is totally what it is. Thanks for commenting.
I share your sentiment of the 124270. I too love mine and feel it has met all my expectations. It’s a watch that appeals to me and often overlooked by others. In fact my wife wasn’t noticed it on my wrist for the last month… perhaps this has more to do with my marriage than the watch. 🤔
My family also has not spotted that I've been wearing this since August 21...and I think that's great.
Forgot to comment on this. This watch really flies under the radar.
I recently purchased this piece on 12/22 and I love it. It makes me look at my
Collection now and contemplate the fate of some of my beloved pieces.
Well done.
Thanks!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences with us. Lovely review which had me captivated for 15mins straight. Have a wonderful day
Thanks a lot. Glad you liked the video. Such flattering comments really help me to continue with the channel.
Congrats! Hope you enjoy your watch!
Congratulations on the wonderful review. The final reflection is very elegant and profound. You have already grasped the essence of the passion of collecting watches without actually having pieces of the highest level. Good boy!
Yes, that's a great thing of good watch enthusiast, to be able to appreciate all watches in all ranges even without owning them all.
Have been wearing the 36mm for two weeks now…I wanted an everyday watch that was subtle yet luxurious. This is the perfect everyday watch, most comfortable watch I have owned. I like to go “unnoticed “ as well! Great review.
That really summarizes this watch. Luxurious but understated. Not pretentious in anyway and ready to be worn 24 hours of almost any day.
@@davidd1016 it would be awesome to meet someday and try both watches. It's great that you use the watch the way it is intended to. That is so great!
this is the best review of this watch. no history lesson, multiple views and long enough to see how the watch sits on the wrist on diffefent from different angles. perfect video
Thanks a lot. I will also start preparing the one year review pretty soon too!
This is the 3rd or 4th time I’m watching your Explorer video! Great video, great action shots of the watch and I can’t wait to get it in a few years! Thanks friend!
I feel honored. Thanks a lot!
Love the genuine nature of this, your personality and explanation of connection is really clear and sells it well. Hope Rolex see this!
Hi Paul, such kind words. Thanks a lot. I really appreciate this. Really helps to keep working on the channel.
A man and his watch. The perfect companion is the Explorer. Best Rolex in my opinion
That's a really special watch. May this accompany you for many years on your journey. Your lucky to have it.
Thanks!
@@micahd323 yes, I will make a one year review of the watch experience :) Due around May-June 2022.
A really great review which touches on the sentiment I have for this watch perfectly. Enjoy in good health, Sir. It really is the gentleman’s choice.
Yeah, that's probably so. Funny you mention the Addiesdive. I recently got one, but mechanical, and is looking and performing great.
I wear my 34mm OP for everything. I've had it for almost 3 years. Covered in scratches. Especially the bracelet. And I love everything about it. It flies under the radar. Zero bling. Nobody notices it.
Happy to see you wearing yours as it was meant to be.
Great video. Wear that gem in good health.
True. We tried to get the OP 34mm in blue but got sold. Maybe in the future. Just got back from a hike with the Explorer :D
Thank you! You are a gentleman. I wil enjoy your next videos.
I walk down the street as I hold my young son's hand. He is irreplaceable, so no you should not feel bad for having a expensive watch. It does not stand out because you are not overly proud you appreciate the watch this is all that matters. God bless you. Enjoy the mountains. Gracias.
Thanks!
Hey, you used your watch exactly as it was meant to be used! It's tough - I wear my 214270 all the time, cycling, cooking, sleeping. It's meant to be worn. Enjoy your Rolex!
Thanks! Yes, I will enjoy it as much as possible :)
Thanks for the great long term review. Really well presented and edited.
Great Video. You can easily remove scratches from a brushed surface using gray scotch-brite pads. just follow the grain and within seconds those scratches will disappear. I use it on my submariner bracelet and clasp all the time.
Thanks for letting me know. I might try this in the future :)
Nice review. I’m glad you’re wearing it as intended….and NOT babying it.
Thanks for sharing your watch journey…I resonate with your story and yes the perfect watch is the watch you enjoy the most and wear because you add character to it not the other way around….cheers to the explorer 36….❤️🔥🙌
Thanks Rob, that is totally so. We attach our stories to the watches we wear while living these experiences :)
It's my favorite watch as well, and this is by far my favorite review.
Thanks a lot! :)
Fabulous review - thank you. I’m interested to hear if you can recommend a tool to more easily remove the spring bars.
The best tool is the Bergeon 7825. Worth every cent of it, believe me.
Great video, informative, personal, honest. These are the types of reviews I love! I’ve just bought the black bay pro but the 36mm explorer is my dream. Wear it in good health 👍🏻
Thanks for the comment. How do you like the Pro? I'm very curious.
This is the best Explorer review by far. Great job!
Thanks!
Be well.
Thanks a lot for your words. I really appreciate them. And thanks for subscribing. Yes, the Explorer is great companion in any of its iterations.
Great commentary on a classic watch. Loved your first video, and this even more. Thank you.
I have been wanting a 36 explorer for very long and finally got the call from the AD a week ago. I am still very afraid of scratching it, but trust that I will soon honor its name and take it out everywhere… great review!
Yeah, first scratches are the worst ones. After some time you have to somehow get along with that. Congratulations and enjoy your piece!
Wow, what a wonderful review. Thank you. A beautiful watch. I tried it on a few days ago and as a big guy, I thought it would be too small. But it felt so comfortable. I just love a clean, simple dial and that’s what daws me to this watch. All the best to you!!
Yes, it is the most comfortable watch I have and doesn't feel to small, just about the right size for this type of watch.
Again a stunning video! Thank you for sharing your experience, the pictures and your thoughts!
Thank you for the review, especially the conclusion: "scratches and scars... signs of adventures lived and more to come".
Thanks. Yes, this watch grows with you and turns to be unique.
Out of interest, have you been given any timeframe? My AD here in the U.K. told me anything up to 5 years!
Fantastic look into the ownership experience of the Explorer. It really seems like a lovely watch! Thank you.
Thanks. It sure is an amazing understated watch :)
@@TheWatchFrame You capture that feeling of understated substance in your video. The mood and atmosphere you create is one of quiet, refined, sophistication, in which you can appreciate these features of the watch. Thanks again!
This is definitiv my new favourite watch review of the Rolex Explorer. Soooo well done🙏
Thanks a lot! I really appreciate it.
Explorer 1 has the same dial size as Submariner and GMT Master. It’s the bezel and case that are narrower. Also, it’s the most legible of the three.
What a great review. Thank you for sharing your experience of this classic design.
Thanks a lot!
The best review about the Explorer! I really like your passionate explanation about it!
Thanks a lot for your words. I really appreciate them. It's an awesome watch and easy to get passionate about she.
@@TheWatchFrame Brilliant, thank you for sharing
I enjoyed your video very much. I have a 34mm OP black dial, and am thinking of adding the 36mm Explorer. It was also very amusing to see that I also have a Glycine Airman Base 22!
Yes, the Explorer is a very nice addition to almost any collection and a great companion for the beautiful OP you have. Glad to find more people with the Glycine Airman Base 22. A cracking watch! Now I have it being serviced at my brother is law's so might take some time to be back with me :D

This is the best review for this watch. Very personalized!
Thanks a lot!
Fantastic review with honesty, detail, brevity and just the right amount of unbiased personal touch. Thank you Sir!
Wow, such encouraging words. Thanks a lot. Really appreciate your words.
Great review! Its nice to see someone buying and enjoying a watch for the right reasons. I think the watch suits your personality to a tee!
Thanks a lot. I've always thought that the first motivation to own a watch is to use it as intended, even is too expensive.
I’ve seen this video about 3 times and it’s the best video I’ve seen about the explorer I think because you have heart and it comes across 👍
Thanks a lot for your words. That means a world to me!
Love your reviews! Love your watch! Love the pics of you with it. And like the other videos, it shows how great it looks on a bigger or normal size wrist.
Thanks Heath for your words!
I was hesitant to buy a Rolex because I didn't want people to judge me. This is quality, luxury, simple isn't boring
Hi, no, I didn't mention in this one, but I believe I did the the first full review. My wrist is around 7 and a quarter inches approximately :)
Excellent Explorer 1 Review - The best I have seen on YT. Thx...
Wow, thanks for your words!
Around 18.5cm :)
I like this video. Calm, structured and discreet as per the Rolex 124270. Thanks.
Thanks for the comment. Very flattering!
Good on you for wearing it like it was built for. Congrats on the purchase!
Thanks!

True, this is a very elegant versatile watch and one you could use for a lifetime and pass to the next generation as is.
Great review, and great you actually use your explorer in active situations.
Thanks!
Fantastic video sir, and I love the "everyday wear" photos. Cant wait for my AD to call on the same model :)
Thanks. It's a very versatile watch indeed. It will suit almost any situation so well that is hard to imagine a watch taking its place.
I just got the watch 2 days ago just by walking into an AD. LOVE IT SOMUCH
Congratulations!
That's real luck. How is the waiting time for this model at an AD globally?
GOAT watch. I got the 124270 earlier this year and don't really wear much else now. Everything else seems big and cumbersome.
Yes, the size is great and once you get used to that, anything else just seems to be too big.
Best content I ve ever seen of this watch and among the best in the watch world. Amazing stories. Thank you
Wow, thanks a lot. This really encourages me!
Yes, for me it too represents an important moment in our life.
A great video. I think one day, I will add this to the fold. My only Rolex is the Milgauss GV with the blue face. Quirky and not mainstream, but I love it. Thanks for sharing your experiences.
What was the watch you showed after the Seiko xks009 it’s a smaller dive watch
Hi, that's a Caravelle Sea Hunter Devils Diver 666. Vintage 36.5mm watch from the Vietnam era. Very hard to find and expensive in good condition. Manual winding. The dial is Explorer or more accurate, Commando like, paying homage also to the Tudor Ranger. More pictures here: www.flickr.com/photos/oneras/albums/72157718919381811.
I think you for giving absolutely awesome video and review. Keep up the good work 👍🏾
Thanks a lot! I really appreciate it.
Excellent review! 👏 I purchased my 124270 around the same time as you and I couldn't have said it better myself.
Thanks!
What a great review and I share your thoughts. I have been considering exchanging my 124270 for the Exp2 as it has more presence. But this feedback has given me some food for thought. Love your collection btw
Thanks a lot. I think the Explorer II is a great option indeed. The 16570 was on my list.
@@TheWatchFrame Looking forward to it!
That watch was born in the mountains. It belongs there.
Best review and best video for this Rolex, the coffee is the best part for me. This poison video made me to start saving for joining the explorer club, black dial for sure 😃
Thanks a lot! It's a great watch!
Great review. I think we have very similar tastes. You have a lovely collection.
Good to hear that. Thanks for commenting!
Great watch , hope you keep enjoying it for a long time …. Lovely video
Thanks a lot!
Loved your video and honest review - feel exactly the same way about my 114270 🙂
Awesome watch the 114270. My original plan was to get that one.
The Rolex Explorer is probably the most effective cure...well for those of us who aren't extremely wealthy investors :)
The Rolex Explorer is an Icon, the most perfect watch ever made and yet almost completely anonomous. How is this possible?
Yes, that is a gre
at question.
Agree... 36mm is not small. It is just smaller. As long as it suits your wrist, that's all that matters.
Totally, sizes are relative to proportions, tastes and type of watch and all in the middle ground!
I love the 114270 and seriously thought on getting that one when the release of the new Explorer kind of took me bu surprise.
Great video. I really love mine. Definitely discerning and comfortable. No one knows you are wearing a Rolex!
