    I love this lens! What do you think?

    • @KOKOBC
      @KOKOBC 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It’s a little too big for me, also it’s not Sony native glass. I’d rather have the 28-75mm 2.8 g2 and save a lot of money than have this bulky lens, I’m personally more excited about Sony’s 24-70mm gm II lens.

    • @tuan056585
      @tuan056585 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      too fat and heavy for me for everyday use.
      I will pick 28-75mm G2 for daily use and 70-180mm or 17-28mm if needed.
      This lens is good for those who don't want to swap the lens, and weight doesn't matter.
      I prefer the other way.

      To heavy … I don’t want , and not right good one for landscape

    • @standhd
      @standhd 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I see Tamron and others coming out with a 24-200 f1.8 to f2.8 in a few years. That lens will be moderately heavy, but it will sell because of the most popular focal lengths. The tech is probably already there, Tamron and Canon are testing the waters for now. But yes, if I had the money, I would purchase this lens as a possible wedding and events lens with a Sony 16-35 f4 as my wide angle workhorse, and a second body; a A9II dreaming big right now, but you get the just of what I’m saying.

    • @KOKOBC

      @@standhd wouldn’t the 16-35 2.8 and Sony a1 be a better dream setup though?

  • @SilatShooter
    @SilatShooter 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I just picked it up, and while I love the range...this is one HEAVY lens. It makes my 24-70 f2.8 feel light. I'm second-guessing this purchase. I knew it was big and heavy, just bigger and heavier than anticipated.

    • @alexnaranjo9313
      @alexnaranjo9313 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the unfortunate thing required for that f2 @35mm, did you keep it? if so hows it going with it?

    • @SilatShooter
      @SilatShooter ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@alexnaranjo9313 thanks for the comment. Yes I get it for the f2 at 35mm and that is nice . I have kept it and use it for portrait work mostly. I was hoping to make it an ‘all purpose’ lens but for me it’s too heavy to travel with. The IQ is truly outstanding. Hard to tell apart from primes.

    • @Sparky_oto
      @Sparky_oto ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m considering this lens as a general ‘do it all’ travel set up with my Sony 24/1.4GM.
      Weight aside, have you noticed any differences in the way this lens renders colour / microcontrast? @alexnaranjo9313 @silatshooter
      I had a Viltox prime a while ago which I thought would be a good replacement for OEM glass, but never liked the colour / contrast / shadow tone and have been skeptical about third party lenses 😢

    • @SilatShooter
      @SilatShooter ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Sparky_oto I will say that the more I use the lens, the more I'm surprised at how close it is to premium primes. In regards to color, contrast and tone, it's a touch warmer than Sony glass (which I find a bit cool in color) but not as warm as Sigma or Samyang glass. This Tamron honestly stands up well next to my GM lenses. I was going to sell it due to its weight but the performance and convenience of this level of quality in one lens convinced me to keep it.

    Really cool. This is excellent for wildlife photography (for big animals like on safaris) making you need one less body. Replaces two bodies with 24-70 and 70-200. And much better than a body with 24-105 f/4.

    I own this lens and this is an excellent wedding/event lens. It’s not for sports or wildlife. To me it’s not even a travel lens. It’s not that heavy. It’s not light, but it’s not heavy enough for me to get rid of it. I absolutely love this lens and if you’re an event or wedding photographer, you’ll love it too

    I ordered this bad boy, and it will be replacing the 24-105 f/4 G in my bag. I appreciate it is larger and heavier, but getting that range at that brightness is a huge draw. This, plus the 20mm f/1.8 G are going to be my go-to travel/hiking set up.

      I’m between the 20mm 1.8 g or the 24mm 1.4 gm. Also ordered the 35-150. I’m torn for which prime to go with though. Do you think you’ll miss the 24 look when you switch to the 35-150?

    Will probably pick this up for events/portraits. Tamrons suffer with very severe flare when shot into the sun though so you just have to be aware of that. Tried to shoot a sunset once with the 28-200 and most shots were unusable. Oddly the APSC version 18-300 I own doesn't have the issue.

    Nice review Stefan. Thank you for how you showed the aperture changes over the focal range. That was good!
    Bummer on the MFD, but something has to give. The vignetting is not nearly as bad as I thought it would be.
    If I still shot weddings, this would be a have to have lens. What a perfect lens to shoot receptions!
    I love how Tamron is making lenses that really push away from the norms, both in price and in size/capability. I don't think this lens is for me personally with what/how I shoot, but it's going to force Sony and Sigma to think out of the box too, and that's going to be a plus for all of us Sony shooters.

    I've been looking forward to this one Stefan. I was lucky enough to get my hands on one the day it was release and I really love the versatility plus image quality. I loved it so well I sold my Tamron 70-180 and sigma 24-70 and this one is replacing both. The only issue I've had with my A7R3 plus this lens is some focus hunting in really bad light but it's not that bad and to be expected. Thanks for your review.

      Is there any difference between this Tamron and Sigma 24-70 in terms of overall quality and sharpness? I can't decide which one shoud I buy :(

    • @rmclark339
      @rmclark339 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BreakdanceMusic Just my opinion but maybe the Sigma has just a tad more sharpness at some focal lengths but you need to pixel peep to see it. The only thing I miss about the Sigma is the 24 MM for a few shots but not enough to justify keeping. The versatility of the Tamron makes it the better lens unless you need something wider than 35 MM.

    • @vincenzodellama7158
      @vincenzodellama7158 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BreakdanceMusic the tamron is better, there is a sharpness comparison between it and the sigma somewhere on youtube. I'm also considering if I should buy it or get 35mm 1.4 dg dn + tamron 28-75mm g2 + 85mm 1.8 fe. It seems like a great lens that can actually replace primes in the range, but at the same time it is huge, expensive and with excessive flaring.

  • @CharlesLe-thephotographer
    @CharlesLe-thephotographer 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You said you don't think a professional would use this lens??? What??? What professional wouldn't use this lens? Any pro who would use a 28-70 and a 70-200 combo would probably consider switching to this one lens instead. It's faster and more convenient. In fact, this replaces two pro zooms and is a great stand in for a 35mm prime at f2 as well and all in one great lens.

    • @NeilSnapePhotography
      @NeilSnapePhotography 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely. I have a small daylight studio. I ordered this lens in November still not delivered in Europe. It is going to be my one lens does everything for portrait, fashion, beauty, nudes, everything I do. In the meantime while waiting I bought an almost new Tamron 28-75mm G1 to get buy plus a Sony 50mm 2.5 G which is stellar. Cameras and lenses don't make great images, the photographer does using what they have. The extraordinary range with such a large opening, gives that opportunity with a flexibility that no there lens provides. I am looking forward to trying it!

    I found this lens to have a major focussing flaw.. back focus when shooting moving objects in low light situations. I shoot dance competitions and when the dancers are near the audience the focus finds the audience faces and goes from the dancers. Using lock on tracking wide with sticky 0 and it still jumps on my A9 with v6 update. A firmware update needed for sure!
