Still impressed how he softlocked the game seconds after getting control.
That's not even just a Vinny thing, that's a this game as a whole thing.
never underestimate Vinny's ability to break games (and how broken AAA games are these days).
Vinny’s passive is already strong. But it’s power is amplified 10 fold by an unfinished AAA game.
He even lent his passive to charlie who crashed on the title screen before even making an input
Hardlocked
It’s so funny that the devs themselves were like “Turn off his hair or the game will break”
Lmao yeah, if it’s that broken they should’ve turned it off themselves before shipping.
Wtf did they even hire playtesters??? These game directors and publishers are becoming more and more brainrotted as the years go by...
@@TheSanndwichh it's not the devs' fault. It's the higher ups at the studio that rushed them into making this.
@@TheRegularHedgehog575 they could’ve patched the game to have the hair physics default to off at any time though
@@TheSanndwichh with the hellish crunch time game studios give their developers, they probably couldn't do anything they actually needed to do.
Objectives
-Passive the game into softlocking.
-(Optional) Do a better Gollum impression than the game’s VA.
-Laugh uncontrollably at the game 20 times: (17/20).
In all honesty, with Gollum impression do you mean Andy Serkis impression? Because it's not like... obligatory for Gollum to sound like that. I welcome some variety.
@@AlfonsoSRT yeah that’s fine and all but all I hear when I hear this Gollum is 2-D
Was 17/20 confirmed here?
@@crazyluigi6664 I was counting my own stats for that one
@@AlfonsoSRT I get you. But tbh it sounds like a dollar store Andy Serkis. Like, evoking his Gollum but not enough to get sued. Same with the character design, it's practically the same with slight differences.
this feels like a modern reskinning of an obscure PS2 game
Even obscure PS2 games play absolute ballers than this shit.
it probably was
Gollum literally looked better in the Return of the King PS2 game that's like 20 years old now
I think they may have been drunk when they got the idea and started making the game.
That's because our generations born after 1980 are just extraordinary shitty at developing games, we have to admit it. Compare the new games to the 1996-2010 era where most developers were born around 1975, they simply were insanely better at it. Just take Rare or Nintendo back around 2000, I would guess our millenial and gen z generations are way dumber than we think to be lol
The game itself is the perfect representation of gollum. Broken, ugly, greedy and pitiful
"Forlorn, ruinous, Utterly wretched."
@@dustinjones7458 For some reason my brain read this line in the voice of the narrator of Darkest Dungeon
@@dustinjones7458 read this in the voice of the tspud narrator omg
I feel kinda bad for the guy now
its kind of similar to Scorn being a pain simulator
Regarding the font, I love that the game does the exact opposite of best practices - uses generic font for huge easily readable text, but uses a weird stylized cursive for subtitles.
I’m actually convinced the game was made by Gollum himself, no sane director or game dev would think that this game was good for release except for him
Was I out of the loop on this game or did it just have no marketing? Like when this game released I thought it was simply the release of the first trailer but no it just came out. Who wanted a gollum game?
@@kayden2119 Jerma.
@@kayden2119 The publishers for this game usually do niche indie games, tl;dr they suck and I do not know why they chose daedelic
i doubt the director or game dev chose when it would be released, to be fair
And yet Vinny does a better Gollum impression than the irl Gollum that chose the in-game voice.
07:15 Gollum sneering and looking around for his Precious only to get suddenly trampled by an old man while the look on his face changes to that of extreme violated confusion and fear is pure gold.
and the fact that he seems looking at us, calling for help or asking himself if this game is serious... is even more awsome i died laughing
The complete lack of gorm on his face
the hair flick is such a good conclusion to the bit
This is like if they made a pulp fiction game and you play the guy who eats the burger and gets exploded

I'd put it up there with the Totally Angelica games from the Rugrats series. I had the PC game as a kid from a pack of girl-aimed games, and it was the only one I never played, and I assume the reason was that it was about Angelica, who I didn't like.
and it ends with the two hitmen busting in and killing you
-Fill Dead ***** Storage (2/5)
I think the Gollum character has potential.
That Gollum/Smeagol impression starting at 14:34 is honestly really impressive. Vinny really did a better job than the game.

6:36 What about this one ? 😅
This was one of Jerma's most anticipated games of the year. He hyped it up on stream and talked about how awesome it would be to just be Gollum doing Gollum things for a game. Jerma, who famously abhors stealth due to his gigaAHDH streamer rotted brain, even knowing it was classified as a "stealth" game was so ready to play this day one before he left to do the live action skit stuff. So if you need to ask yourself "Who the hell actually wanted this game?", you have at least one answer.
I want to see him play
I thought jerma was doing a bit when he mentioned this game
I genuinely didn't think it was real
@@BiFurDoggy Jerma always chooses the weirdest hill to die on when it comes to something he likes. I can definitely see him vehemently defending a Gollum simulation game.
Jerma is a mindless consomer

“Restrict blood flow to Gollum’s throat” is definitely a vinesauce favorite from this year
I just wish he had managed to make it to the part where an orc says "Gollum. Breeding Halls. Now!"
the what now
😳😳😳
That is almost certainly made up, but I kinda what to see an edited playthtough where someone has taken all the funny bits out. I couldn't slog through a full playthrough myself.
@@brycedolishny4138 I think the breeding halls is for breeding birds. There is a part of the game where you go to a bird breeding room and have to hatch a bird.
It's one of those rare things that is as strange *in* context as it is out of context. If you're familiar with the works of Tolkien and the character of Gollum in geberal, the events of the Breeding Chamber just go against everything it stands for.
3:08 ~ 14:33
The voice acting struggles to sound like Smeagol/Gollum with scripted and paid one-liners, but Vinny can nail a whole improv conversation between the two characters on the fly. We are blessed to have Vinny.
The game does not have the copyrights to the movie voice. It's on purpose.
@GusM60Patton I mean, the Peter Jackon movies are just adaptations of the original novels, it's clear that this game isn't meant to be a tie-in to those, hence why no one looks or sounds like they did in the movies.
Is this the fastest a full stream has been turned into a highlight video? Holy cow
That’s how you know the stream was legendary
Even faster than TOTK! That means gollum > zelda right?
@@rusduderus
Clearly
The irony is that more effort probably went into these highlights during the days since he streamed it, than the entire development cycle of the game upon which it’s based.
gotta chase those fotm views
(Im still salty we didnt get terraria pt 2 like we were promised)
I just wanted to point out that at 17:30, you do manage to restrict blood flow to Gollum's™ throat. Objective complete!
The basic typeface is always the biggest slap in the face for me. That was the one visual change that needed barely any effort, and they couldn’t even bother
Honestly I think the infamous alpha screenshot looks BETTER than the final product, definitely had more style and better font choice.
The standard button promts are even funnier imo. Like year, I know why those exist, i think the guy who made them is cool, i know that they're important. But for a triple a game like this, and to clash so heavily...
Honestly if I worked on this game I wouldn’t bother either
They couldnt afford the copyright for Tolkiens fonts because they blew the entire budget on gollums hair simulator

there's your reason
the way Gollum flops over like an electrocuted rat when he dies destroys me
For anyone that hasn’t seen the VOD on Fullsauce, I’d highly recommend it. This is a modern classic Vinesauce stream.
Yeah I'm not normally one for unedited footage, but this was pretty fucking great.
Disappointed that we didn't hear Barnesyarns mention dragging gollum by his cockring on a two mile long chain to Mount Doom though
No.
@Bessux why not?
It was fucking great
Vinny loses his sanity fast in that, and for the best.
I think it’s worth noting this game was made by a developer who had mostly done point-and-click games before this
Oh god
Why didn’t they just a point and click adventure with Gollum?!?!
@@dimitriwarchief301 Afaik because they have had trouble selling copies of their point and click adventures. They're popular games with many fans, so that is not the issue, but someone who has seen a playthrough of a point and click will probably not be interested in buying the game themselves since they already know the story and you don't play these games for gameplay. According to the official statement I read, this is the reason of the sudden genre switch. And sadly it may also be the underlying reason for the underfunding that creates bad games like this.

I think theres potential in a game where you play as wretched goblin creature causing problems. Gollum though isn't really a character that works as a protagonist...You dont want him to succeed, you want him to stay locked in jail forever.

Vinny's "conversation" following the Zelda noise actually had me in tears. I don't think I've laughed that hard in forever.
I didn’t know how much I’ve needed Gollum shouting, “you BASTARD,” at random things.
In a not too distant pararell universe to us this is a fun little stealth game with Gollum. I personally don't think the concept of this game is all that bad, it's just that the execution failed in almost every place.

Honestly if a game managed to recreate that nasty euphoria Gollum was experiencing in the movies when he’s beating that fish to death and Boromir’s little brother is threatening to kill him, that game would be amazing just for that.
Like, how many games let you be the nasty little goblin slinking around and being a freak?
the golem argument mechanic is actually interesting if it wasn't so abrupt
