I'm into drinking less now (both frequency and amount) but spending more on better quality stuff. Rather sip on a $200 bottle and really enjoy it, then hammer down 3 $65 bottles.
I just turned down a Willett purple top wheated and previously turned down a purple top bourbon. I had bought one of each previously. Very good bourbon, but no where near worth the $250 and $300 price tag. Glad I tried it, but I'm good now.
$150 is my max. I’d consider something at $200 but no more than that. To me there’s just so much great stuff available for less. If I spent more it would just be to satisfy my ego, not my tastebuds.
I have an unopened 15 year Willett bottled in 1992 from either Stietzel Weller or Bernheim. It has maroon wax on top. Want me to open and send you some?
For a special occasion as a gift, i would spend more. For myself, i wouldn't ever pay above msrp. Thanks for the video guys. Always a pleasure. Cheers 🎉
and "we understand" that you all have access to many many more opportunities due to the TH-cam channel. i'l love to pay 350 for RR15 instead of 450+ MSRP for 15 is 249 in WA....for the one case I've heard of...lol
Now that I've experienced a fair amount of distilleries, I'd say Wild Turkey is my favorite. I wanna find atleast one of their special products each year.
I guess it all comes down to how much you are willing to spend. I think if you are going to make an expensive purchase you really need to see if you can obtain a pour first
599 for any bottle of whiskey seems unreasonable to me. I just don't think I've drank a bottle I would pay 599 for honestly. The one time I won 599 at bingo when I was 18, I was so happy I won that much money at once. I don't think I could ever see myself spending 599 on one bottle. I could buy so many more bottles!
I would pay 350 for a Russell's 15 year and would be the most I would have paid for a bottle to date. Dreaming but just saying if that good I kinda really want one.
I believe Zack made a reference in the last video saying it's pretty easy for him to get the old fitz 13 vvs.. would you mind sharing that intel for those of us who would like to own a bottle?
That Willett stuff isn't good to me. I've had the green tops and it was barely worth MSRP. If I can get Purple top at msrp or close to it I'll give it a go to get it off my bucket list. Disco 10 is readily available by me. Disco 11 and 12 I doubt I'll ever see in my area for MSRP. I'd pay up to $200 for it.
My all time most disappointing bottle is Willett purple top. Paid $270, gave several samples away, nobody liked it. Finally found a fan & gifted half the bottle. Big mistake for me!
@jimpaul3491 yeah that's not a purple top, that one was never good to begin with. Purple top is Estate bourbon looks like the Rye bottle with a purple top.
MN has had some Purple Top drops over the last couple of years. I've passed on them multiple times. There is no chance that anybody can convince me that a 9 year old single barrel is worth $325. Purple Tops are the biggest sham out there. I've never tried one and don't need to. It can't be good enough to warrant $325 for a 9 year single barrel.

Why are you "hammering down" any bottles? 😂. I'd rather have 3 amazing $65 bottles than one good $200.

After the remarks Dave has on the Purple Top I think I need to try before I think about buying. That a bunch of money for a Rio bottle.
I tried a Rare Character next to a purple top…. Purple top is super delicious but RC was so close. I’d rather get a bunch of RC
Love the perspective. Thank you

Like total or over MSRP?
If you like Willet find one of the Hirsch single barrels with Willet juice for a fraction of the price

It would probably be the best Willett we ever tasted

Great topic, you said it at the beginning, it just depends on the person and what they are willing to spend their $$ on!
For me to buy anything over $140 it has to be MSRP There is far to many bourbons in the $50-100 range that are obtainable that are good
Is that OF still available at the distillery?!?
and "we understand" that you all have access to many many more opportunities due to the TH-cam channel. i'l love to pay 350 for RR15 instead of 450+
MSRP for 15 is 249 in WA....for the one case I've heard of...lol
Didn’t they sell them online for less?
Now that I've experienced a fair amount of distilleries, I'd say Wild Turkey is my favorite. I wanna find atleast one of their special products each year.
I’m with ya
I pay only MSRP. For the elusives i just go to a bar! WLW $80 for a pour is expensive but I'm not paying $1000+
I guess it all comes down to how much you are willing to spend. I think if you are going to make an expensive purchase you really need to see if you can obtain a pour first
That's what I did with RR15. But I ain't buying $400+, which is the price in my area.
Do you all know if there is any truth to russells 15 juice being on some specially marked russells 10 yr bottles?
Haven't heard that rumor yet.
@bourbonkingdom I was the guy that asked about redwood empire, I am coming to ky in a couple weeks if u want me to run something from VA
I'm with Brewzle. No bottle of anything is worth $300+
How do you tell if the willett is sourced or not?
Distilled, aged and bottled by willett distillery vs. Distilled in Kentucky, bottled by willett distillery
I can tell you exactly how much I paid for my Purple Top.. $599. I paid that because I was too embarrassed to say no at the register after a raffle 😔
Ouch… 😆 that fuckin sucks
in my state of CO these purple tops are sitting on the shelf for weeks after raffles/similar events because that price is so ridiculous.
That's nuts the pressure you must have felt.
Hey, congrats, you won. Now pay us double the price.

@@noworldforeric We totally agree. I have an issue with saying no at the register. I honestly felt sick on the way home.

Traded a JD10, Antique 107 plus $100 for a RR15
I believe Zack made a reference in the last video saying it's pretty easy for him to get the old fitz 13 vvs.. would you mind sharing that intel for those of us who would like to own a bottle?
Know when they are dropping at the distillery or go to heaven hill events.

I paid $149.99 for a Bookers the reserves. I didn't mind.
As far as willet give me a Johnny drum or pure kentucky 🥃
I paid $300 for the Russell's 15, less than what I paid for the 13yr old!
Remember, $200 is a LOT of peoples ceiling
My all time most disappointing bottle is Willett purple top. Paid $270, gave several samples away, nobody liked it. Finally found a fan & gifted half the bottle. Big mistake for me!
Estate? Or that purple bottle top that's not a purple top?
@@ceottolino It was the 8 year wheated. Really disappointing

I drank a 10 yr Purple Top and I would pay MSRP for it in a heartbeat It’s that good for me
The question is…how much would David pay to get that facial hair back?
MSRP only.
If you lived around me you wouldn't have any bottles lol
Dave’s a cheap ass 😂 I love it though
Paid $385 out the door for Russell's Reserve 15... Twice!
Man why yall got the same haircut? 😂
I don't like Willett at all.
