Excellent camera work and narration. The old school cabover is a beauty! Have trucked the same routes but never anything close to this size. I've done lowbed and step deck work and lots of oversize. You guys are in a whole other league! Great to see real working classic trucks!! 🏒🇺🇲🇨🇦
Awesome video! Your daughter did an excellent job! Nothing like black smoke pouring out the stacks! Not so much all of that blow by! Glad she’s back to work!
I knew that was a 3406b the moment i heard it .The purr of that Kitty sent me to sleep many a night In a cabover just like that .What good memories and crazy stories we old truckers can tell .
That dolly looks like fun! My old fire department had a hook and ladder...a tiller truck, and I loved steering the trailer!! Looks about the same, except you're on the ground and we were up in the air on top of the trailer!
Really cool video ! Been watching updates posted by MOT on Kicking Horse, and the scope and complexity of the project in amazing. Thanks for sharing the adventure. 🤙
Awesome footage of the haul Joe. I've never pulled a steering dolly. Looks exciting, especially the view from the dolly. And of course the cherry on top was bringing her home on the hook. Lol. Koodos to your daughter for all the work she did.
Glad this was not used when the train hit the concrete beam in early January ! well you got the load there , sucks you lost the piston , time for inframe !
Great video! That old 3406B musta run her guts out, but was lucky it held together until it wasn’t loaded when that head gasket blew. Looks like it was an expensive repair. Thanks for all the great videos in this, really great to see the overheads and the dolly views. Your daughter did a great job editing this 😉👍
Uncle Ralph worked for Rocky Hill Iron Works in Rocky Hill, Ct in 60's hauling steel girders from Bethlehem, Pa. Many of the I-91 overpasses, bridges were built using those beams.
Joe thank you for showing us all how its done. top quality doco style footage, explanations and the cabover - well the star of the show. respect from australia.
An astounding video!! Your daughter did an outstanding job with this awesome video. I've never seen a girder that long being hauled, and the tractor/jeep/steering dolly combo made for a fascinating rig, with an overall length just shy of an incredible 200 feet!! Talk about looong! The view from the steering dolly was great; it really takes experience to take the turns safely with a load that long! Loved seeing that Freightliner cabover!! Still gettin' r done! Sorry about the mechanical at the end, though. Thanks for posting, totally enjoyable.
What a great video. I actually worked at a prestress place and then ran heavy equipment on big road and bridge projects in Florida . In Moore Haven Florida the beams that went over water were brought in by a barge. They placed one beam and the strongeback setup that was designed to hold the beam in place didn't work and the beam fell before they could hook the cranes back up. The beam fell on the barge holding the other 4 beams I believe, and 2 or 3 fell into the water way. It was a a few month setback on the bridge construction. That was around 1998,99.
This was some great content, one thing is could you show more from the dolly? Your Daughter did a great job of putting this together, and as for your motor in your truck your safe and you did what you could to keep all safe my hat is off to you all. Crazy to see, you still use people in that steering dolly. Well, it works for you, but here in Europe you can't find manypeople who would go there. (because we had wire / radiocontrolled trailers from late 70's)
Blows my mind that the Europeans have had auto rear-steer worked out for at least the last 25 years and there are still companies stateside running this sort of setup.... All part of the hustle, I guess...
JLG ultra used to start around 250k, with the steel prices going up over the last few years as much as they have i would guess starting price is much higher.
