I love the music from Black&White games, they always felt impactful and "godly" Still morn that closing of Lionshead, and the downfall of the company, their games always felt like a unique and breath of fresh air amongst all the games that was so similar to one another. Even with its faults in each game, I always felt like I could overlook them, because the fun I had playing them made them feel so minimal and not game breaking, or take me out of the immersion I had while playing the games
I agree it’s very easy to get caught up in promises and expectations and have that affect how we view media. Especially when you’re an adult and you only have so much time. It’s basically why I never play a game at release so I can play the game outside of the initial wave of opinions and can enjoy it on its own merit. Lionheads games are a good example of this. You see people say “I never heard what Peter said and I loved it”
@@erikmcswain I saw his vague promises, and how Peter hyped up games, but I knew to not trust everything he said. And tried to stay away from all those videos, which helped me quite a lot indeed
Great video, just came from the B&W 2 one, love the way you structured these and how you showed how YOU played the game too, not just other people and reviewers' opinions... Good job, and even better job on the B&W2 vid
Thank you so much. I appreciate it. I always think it’s important when you’re looking at the history of any peace of media is to not only contextualize its reputation at the time but to analyze it with fresh eyes because things unrelated to the game itself may shape that reputation. We see it even more now with how politicized user reviews can be or how one even negative quote or fake or true story can take a game down fairly and unfairly. I try to avoid participating in that muck and try to find the value of the game itself. I hope I can continue to improve because it’s a lot of fun.
About the whole bringing Tyke into the base game and playing with the advanced creature AI - nowadays this was done and is possible through a mod called "Black & White: Ultimate", created by Shane, administrator of the Black & White Discord server. Ultimate features many changes and improvements, such as: - Playing B&W and CI through a modded CI client (which is slightly more stable and has some bugfixes over the base game) - An optional Hard Mode, featuring highly improved enemy god AI, agressive creatures and some additional trigger, i.e. instant death when Lethys or Nemesis influence reach your Temple - Being able to use Tyke in the campaign (requires you to beat Hard Mode once to unlock) - The ability to select your own player color, based on ingame RGB sliders - The ability to select your own temple style (only the existing ones from campaign and skirmish modes) - Optional settings to select your stating tribe, as well as being to randomize all villages and their miracles Overall, ever since I learned about its existence, Ultimate is now my go-to choice for playing Black & White, I'd highly recommend checking it out, it adds a lot of fun additions, and the Hard Mode is genuinely scary, well, as a good god anyway. If you're evil, the strategy mostly remains the same as in the original game.
My brother made a modded version of Creature Isle that has more villages to rule and two obscenely powerful enemy AIs that keep fucking with both the player and the Brotherhood trial-givers. It's genuinely a blast.
I know the source guide you're talking about. I actually tried all of those things long ago (e.g. get pop to 1000, get gauntlets, then Sable will come and teach your creature to use the source) - it doesn't work, it just doesn't - I agree it's mostly a scam. Also, not sure if Lionhead realized but after you get a new Tyke, the old one is basically abandoned and it will become an aggressive creature on the realm that you can't do much about. Pretty horrible if you ask me. But probably just one of many oversights.
I wonder if the Source and the gauntlets were supposed to have some connection with the P5 VR glove? I know the original base game was going to have a lot of integration with that thing, to the extent that there's a mini game which (if I remember correctly) is unplayable because it depends on the P5 glove's haptic feedback.
I'm hoping you cover B&W 2. I remember just not liking it and feeling like it became too much of a generic RTS. What made the first game great was that it was something of a sandbox experience, back before those were commonplace. It was one of the things which differentiated it from other titles at the time; I think they took the cries of "BUT WHERE'S THE GAME PART?!" from critics too seriously.
Editing the B&W 2 video as we speak. I agree that the sandbox experience was the best part especially land 2 I do think after that point in the campaign they focus too much on trying to gamify the objectives and the way B&W 1 was designed didn’t work for that and the rest of the game after suffered.
9:57 I can't get the ballista challenge to work :( the ballista always goes haywire and any minimal movement on my cursor brings it completely down. The aiming is completely spastic. Does anyone have any idea of what could be causing this? Thank you!

Your audio seem kinda off this time.
Haha Yeah I was watching the first two videos the other day and I’ve definitely come a long way in learning to record and edit audio.
