  • In this class I will show you how to create this drawing using a few simple flowers and a series of fan shapes using layering and shading with only a pen and a pencil. This class is perfect for beginner-intermediate level artists. Advanced artists can also follow along and add their own flair.
    Huge thanks to ‪@Hertog_von_Berkshire‬ and ‪@lisablacker3102‬ for pointing out that the designs looked like Native American Headdresses.

    You are a great teacher. You explain what you’re doing and why all along the way. You emphasize that things don’t have to be perfect and your voice is very soothing.

    I’m completely impressed with your line work. It’s perfect every single time! Even zooming in I find no imperfections. I’m afraid to grab a pen first so I first start with pencil. My question is… Do you think line work is a practiced skill or a natural talent?

    • @betsi_jae
      @betsi_jae  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      That's such a good question. I'm sure some people might have a natural talent or inherent dexterity, but I believe 100% that it still always comes down to practice. I guarantee there are plenty of days when my lines are messy and uneven, when my creations feel uninspired. I don't mention this too often, but there are entire videos I have filmed and edited ... only to then discard the whole thing. I've learned over the years to let go. This way I can move on and try again.

      You're not alone! I agree with what Betsi said. I know for me, the practice helps me feel more confident, therefore there's less hesitancy in my lines. That helps immensely with how smoothly the lines flow. Just try not to compare yourself to other people, only work to be better than YOU were yesterday. (Not always easy to do 😕)

      Thank you so much for your reply’s. I’m new to line art and think that’s why I’ve always done Watercolors, seems more fluid. @Lisablacker3102 Thank you. I do compare my lines to Miss Betsi’s, and you are right. I should not and I need to just accept that I need to practice more. I’m my own biggest critic and the sad part is that this line art is something I’m doing just for myself.
      I purchased one of Miss Betsi’s beautiful journals and I’m too nervous to start drawing in it. So with more practice I may work up the courage.

    Looking though your videos tonight, I discovered I'd missed this one. Thoroughly enjoyed it. What an excellent class! Love both of your versions. Lots of shapes and elements in these to practice on and found your tips and tricks quite helpful. Size is perfect too.. Not too overwhelming. Thank you Miss Betsi! ❤🕊️

      I'm so glad you like them! Sometimes it can be a bit daunting to buy pens that a little more expensive (at least it was for me), but these are totally worth it.

    • @betsi_jae
      @betsi_jae  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes! Mayan headdresses. About halfway through the drawing I realized they looked like feathered crowns. I'm officially changing the title 😎.

      Yes, "Mayan" is better. Glad to know I wasn't a million miles off. Honoured to see the official change of title. 😎

    I’m playing around with colours at the moment, just using gel pens. I followed you with this beautiful design using pink, orange, green and blue. It didn’t turn out as elegant as yours, but it was great fun doing it. Thank you so much for the inspiration 😊❤

    Tomboy pens come in soft and hard, which do you reccommend and is there a difference between them?

    • @betsi_jae
      @betsi_jae  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There is a slight difference between them. Most of the time I prefer the hard-tipped pen, as it feels a little more like regular pens, but recently I've learned to appreciate what the soft-tipped pen can do. I think it will come down to whether you prefer your tools to be firm or soft. The link I provide is for a set that comes with one of each. Might help you to try both out and decide which works best for you.
