  • Painting the Engine Bay, Rear Differential and MUCH More On the 73 Camaro- Let's Sling Some PAINT!!
    This episode I prep and paint just about everything that came off of the 1973 Camaro Z28 (suspension wise). Finally almost done restoring all of the pieces that came off of the car. Getting very close to the next step of re-assembly!
    Products Used (NOT SPONSORED):
    1) Eastwood Rust Encapsulator (layed this down first on every part in the video)
    2) SPI Epoxy Black (Topcoat for engine bay over the Rust encapsulator)
    3)Eastwood 2K Ceramic Chassis Black (topcoat for high stress areas that need increased scratch resistance like the differential)
    4) Eastwoods brake gray

    Ryan, those trim tag screw are factory for your car. Early 73 had the rivets, it was sometime in April when they changed from rivets to screws. Nice work on the car!

      Hi Don thanks for the comment! Engine parts are on back-order (have to wait on the right pistons still for the targeted static compression ratio I want) but hopefully within the next 2 weeks they will get them in and my rotating assembly all machined at skip white. on a 73 Camaro the Z28 engine code is part of the vin. the 5th digit is the engine code. For Z28 it should be a "T" for the L82 - 350ci 245hp Z28 engine. as long as it has a T in the 5th digit of the Vin it is a Z28. as far as the trim tag goes. you car prove it is real with a little math. you can verify that the trim tag is authentic by looking at the build date stamped on the tag. the first 3 digits on the bottom row of the trim tag will be the month and week built. For example 04D would be the April of 1973 week 4. nastyz28.com has a list that shows the last Camaro vin made by month. the last vin for march was 156034 and the last vin in April was 165811. so 9777 Camaro that month. divide by 30 days and you get roughly 325.9 cars per day. so add 325.9 cars per day to the last vin in march to get the approximate starting vin number, then subtract 325.9 cars per day from the last week in April to get the approximate ending vin. so the first day of week 4 in april 1973 was the 22nd. so 325 cars x 21 day = 6843.9 cars. and the were only 2 days in the end week 5 in April so roughly 652 cars. so the starting vin that week should be approximately 162878 and end around 165159. as long as the last six digits of the vin fall in between that range, it can assume that is that trim tag for the car. I was just using an a 04D week tag as an example here because i have do not know your actual vin or trim tag info. and this method is not 100% accurate, but the probability of someone swapping the trim tag from a z28 built in week 4 of April 1973 to another Z28 built in week 4 of April 1973 are extremely low after 47 years.

    • @shadvan9494
      @shadvan9494 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I forgot one additional bit of info. GM switched from rivets to screws for trim tags on the 3rd week of April 1973. (which is why i had April 73 stuck in my head while i was making the example above.) after re-watching the video, and looking at the screws on the tag, i can say that those look like original GM screws. verifying the build date on the tag will tell 100% if the screws are correct if the car was built in 04C and latter. i tried to get a look at the tag in the video, but the camera didnt pick up the corner of the tag for me to see the build date

    0:56 yes s/b body colored. I would find a match and do it right. You can go to Napa and get a spray can made up. If someone removed the trim tag that usually spells fake Z28 to people. That’s a no no when restoring a car. Leave it alone for people out there if it’s original or you may open up a can of worms in the future.

    I know this is a month old video but I had to say that removing the vin plate & body tag(s) is a major no no. Mopars are a little different as their tags are on fenders but I have never & will never remove any factory installed data plate. I believe its even illegal in certain states. Too much of a liability removing them as you always wonder if something shady is going on. I will not buy any car or truck that I even suspect that the plates have been messed with. I'm sure I'm not alone thinking this way.

    • @RyanSampsonRPh
      @RyanSampsonRPh  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      VIN tag was never messed with, trim tag is being bolted down the same exact way with the same screws used from the factory. I wouldn’t buy a car either with the vin tag being removed and if the engine wasn’t numbers matching to the VIN 🙂
