The moment it gets and attacked and gets shut down, that means an attack has happened and everyone knows where the aliens are. So it doesn't really matter if the soldiers believe them or not. Makes the audience feel as frustrated as the protag, with the only satisfaction being that we find out the aliens are real.

But now, it would be much more difficult for modern people raised with the Internet to adapt to isolation.
