- Every year on Halloween, the teenagers from a cursed small town must participate in a ritual during which they must hunt down and kill a monster known as Sawtooth Jack, but there's a dark secret behind the creature's origin.

So if Jack wins, disaster befalls the town, but if a boy wins, he dies and become the new Jack? Also, starving the boys for 3 days is really stupid cuz now they're malnourished and can't fight Jack properly
Probably just a strength in numbers thing.
They clearly mentionned its to make sure the boys go hunting jack who s inside is full of candies. Yes, candy isn't a proper source of nutriment but u hungry you take what you can get. They don't want the boy to just go hide somewhere and let the night pass.
Kinda weird indeed. Jack massacres everyone, how the fuck they can keep pumping hundreds of children for each year's hunt? Lmao
@@leoleo1035lots of copulation.
Sure they’d get tired more quickly but their survival instincts would start to take hold so they’d be a lot more ruthless than usual
Surprised Kelly didn’t kill the farmer to save Richie.
Better ending: Kelly kills the farmer, saves Richie. They escape together. Richie’s Dad stays and makes sure the ritual does not continue.
Honestly, I may like this ending better. But that's my opinion.
The ending it has is better. Not all movies need to have a happy ending.
That’s a shit ending
Yes that's exactly how I thought it would end
Not necessary, but Kelly sure needs more character development
It makes me wonder what would happen if a sawtoothjack decided to be like "fuck this, i m leaving the town" .
But at this point I wouldn't be surprised if their whole existence is basically pain and just seek to end things while taking revenge on the people of the town.
Maybe the magic forces it to attack the town or prevents its escape.
@@korsekil That's what I figured.
What happens if it wins tho? Like does it get a house and 25k and can leave town? Lol
The local SCP agents catch him, amnestezise him and send him back with a implanted story😏
@@goiterlanternbase nah the tva soldiers come and reset the timeline
"He isn't real" ... what, did everyone who didn't kill him the previous year/s forget ripping him open and eating the candy?
Well it looks like only highschool boys get to do it. So those boys either did not have brothers that went into the run, or where to young to do it till then so its always been just a story to them.
The one who kills jack is jack
Maybe the boys were so hungry that when they ripped him open they saw it as candy instead of blood and guts
@@drectanbns266 but highschool isnt just one year and jack returns every year.
Idk how to feel about the way they changed the ending from the book
Like I think it was already brutal enough that it was his older brother that was killed and turned into a monster,
but I don't think they needed to kill Richie at the end
like he killed the sheriff, Kelly coulda saved him from the Farmer and the dad coulda killed himself in the church like in the book
Still harrowing became Richie's whole family is dead, his brother burns the town as STJ, farmer dies, and Richie and Kelly escape
The way they set up the ending has it like Kelly is supposed to be the main character that the camera hasn't focused on enough
The whole time I was thinking Kelly was going to save him and break the cycle since it was the first time two people tried to escape together, but after that cowardly move, I was just let down after the buildup and potential "good" ending to leave the cult-like town in the dust. (Literally.)
What's the book ending like?
The bigots that are the directors of the movie should’ve made Kelly the main character.
@@Mster_JHow are they bigots?
@@Mster_J They're bigots if they don't make the side character the main character?
The moment I heard the beginning where "Only boys can be sent" "It happens once a year" and "the winner is 'allowed to leave town'" I called it that the "winner" becomes the monster next year and when questioned where the winner from last year went the town would say "he left town"
How do they turn???
@@prue5588 probably the pumpkin head
so according to this movie three days is all it takes for people to turn into ravenous cannibals from hunger. I find that less likely than the possibility of Sawtooth Jack
I haven't watched the movie but I think that the reason why those boys cannibalized was because they were already mentally messed up due to the town's culture.
I can't survive 2 days without food. If I do I wouldn't have that much energy
@@roylle6346 I've gone as long as a week fasted several times before. Energy levels return once your body enters ketosis, hunger pangs go away once ghrelin hormone subsides, all in about two days.
I wouldn't do a marathon, but the idea that you'll go insane for food to the point of cannibalism has got to be parody lol
did they turn into cannibals'?, or did they kill the butcher and raid his shop. Eating the candy the farmer puts inside inside the monster isn't cannibalism, because it's candy, not human flesh. I don't recall it saying they were eating each other, just that they were turning on each other and killing each other. If they were eating each other, they probably wouldn't have bothered with the butchers shop. As for them going crazy in the first place, it's not 3 days, it's their entire lives. They live in a crazy cult town that teaches all the boys to be violent murderers one night of the year until they win the prize, or get butchered by a monster. They starve their boys, then lock them out of the houses to be butchered by a monster, and the young boys can see all this happening outside their windows, knowing that one day, when their old enough, they'll be forced to live that horror too. Imagine, not getting to eat for 3 days, knowing the whole time that you are about to be locked outside with a supernatural horror. The fear alone would drive a person crazy, let alone the starvation on top of that., There's no way something like that won't make you crazy. Hell, I grew up in the inner city of Philadelphia, and just the culture in the hood is enough to have teen boys roaming the streets murdering each other for clout, territory, or just because they feel like it, and that's not even some supernatural horror thing, that's just because it's what they learned from the adults and the environment they are raised in. Now imagine being raised in this horror town, that won't let you leave, and makes you go fight for your life to kill a doom monster, that they create, fill with candy, and release each year, just so their crops don't go bad. I'm surprised their not crazy and killing each other on regular days, let alone Halloween.
You'd be surprised how ravenous you'd get after 3 days, zero food, intake, etc. You'd be in between civilized and feral, 100%
Interesting film. Sorta figured out what the twist/ending would be of who Jack is. Seems this is based on a book, and in the book he makes it to the church and destroys the whole town, setting everyone free.
Which book is that?
Commeting to get the book name too. Sounds intriguing.
@@stephw.7874 Apparently the book has the same name: Dark Harvest. 👍
It is called Dark Harvest 🎯

Instead of trick or treating on Halloween this town has to kill a monster
Fits well in the Shirley Jackson “the Lottery” short story genre. (Published in June 26, 1948). She was the first in the last century that cause a lot of spinoffs. Read it if you have not. It’s short but powerful. When done, compare with this one. Why was the lottery held each year, why was this game held each year. Why in both cases did it seem as if was an OK thing to do. What do both have to say about humans and how easily we go from friends and then seconds later killers. “The purge” has been said to also fit in this genre.
Oh yeah that was a fun book like at the start u thought the boys were playing with stones but they were actually getting ready to kill the victim
I literally read that in English a week ago. Tf?
You sound like those questions they have at the end of books in elementary and middle schools
Funny, I suppose I do. I'm in a book club with three librarians and two IT engineers. @@Mster_J 😆
Ah, my readings don’t go back that far, though this does not surprise me.
Sawtooth Jack is basically a story of Vietnam War and The Draft. Only teens are getting drafted and it’s an endless cycle of death and hardship for the families
Completely low IQ take.
Only teen boys, and it seems like the boys had to be 18
You're over thinking it. It's just reference how ancient civilizations used to do human sacrifices for the harvest.
Nice analogy my friend
No it's FFX lol
The book and the Movie are called “Dark Harvest” for those who are asking
It’s in the first 3 seconds as well
Thank you! I was searching hard
Thank you
So it's a supernatural twist on the Hunger Games...
Saw the twist of the monster's true identity coming from a mile away, but it still seems like a fun movie.
Okay Columbo.
@@jacktorrance2633 "You know my wife, she's loves this Run stuff. Can't get enough of it. She mentioned something quite interesting about the winners though. You see, nobody ever hears from them again. No record of them ever existing after they high tail it out of town. Aww, but it's probably just a coincidence. I'll get out your hair.
One more thing.... I notice that guy, this Sawtooth Jack you call him right? Well, he has the same belt buckle as one of the boys in this year's Run. Now I consider myself something of a detective, and wouldn't you know it, that boy just happened to be the brother of the last Run's winner. Isn't that just peculiar?"
Hold up, you’re telling me they starve the kids for three days? The only thing that would do is make them all too tired and weak to even run.
I’ve waited so long for this movie but I don’t think I can separate the differences from the novel enough to enjoy it. The twist hit plenty without making it familial and taking the happy ending from the characters.
So the year sawtooth made it to the church, what happened to him afterwards? Did an adult just shoot him? How did they pick a new person to be Sawtooth the next year? A raffle?
Probably an adult shot him and then the adult was "leaving" the town and willingly gets killed
Jack represents world war 2. So im guessing if he reaches the church the war comes home as a dust storm or tornado disaster.
@@xisigmaJack represents America. If he reaches the Church, America would start a new Empire.
There is a book called dark harvest there he reaches the church destroys the town and sets everyone free so it was most likely a lie to make people want to go
In the book, Jim doesn't have a brother and no girls are a focus point in the story. The teens learn the truth and decide to help Jim who basically breaks the town's 'curse' when he arrives in the church and killing the police officer. It's honestly a better ending but I still enjoyed the film. The book follows Jim so the reader knows going in what's happening.
So the reason they can only send 1 son per household is to avoid them being too rich or suffer too much? I cant tell
The answer is yes. 😂
You don't want to take all the male children. So yeah.
It’s cause sibling will likely recognise siblings - shown how Richie recognises Jim based on their special brother belts.
Also a second winner can’t win a house for the family since the first winner already did so what a second house - to rent? Oosh can’t have that.
I think it’s more a situation like the draft was. They only let one son do it so the family doesn’t die out and people can keep the ritual going.
They explained it.
One son per house because once their son wins, the parents find out the truth that their son is sacrificed to become the next Jack. They're sworn to secrecy otherwise they're killed and are forced to lie to their friends and family that their son is sending post cards or died in an accident far away.
The reason being that, if the whole town knew, obviously they would fight against the system. Instead, only the winning family's know. And even if this was happening for 100 years, that would only be 100 families. The other siblings in that family don't know, they just know to do The Run every year, so when they grow up and move out their parents house and have their own family, they teach their kids to do the Run and continue the ritual. Where they find out the truth once their kid wins and rinse and repeat.
I read the book first, it's just changed too much stuff for me to be able to enjoy it.
Not a bad movie, unless you're a huge fan of the book.
I'm gonna have to find that book!

So the farmer couldn't have just stopped making Sawtooth Jack. And they just couldn't team up so a single person, the sheriff, wouldn't be able to stop them... Huh... Okay...
It seems that they tried to make Sawtooth Jack sympathetic in the end, but I can’t sympathize with him because if he still retains his memories from his past life, why would he kill the boys coming after him instead of just evading them or just wounding them? Since Sawtooth Jack had been through what they’re going through, you’d think he would sympathize and spare them.
i think its cause he doesnt know them exactly or maybe cause its his dad and not some random
@@marcierex4547yeah, remember in previous run, all the family member stay in the house. So no one could ever "wake" sawtooth jack.

Holy crap what an awesome idea for a horror movie
honestly this for a horror movie has a great plot honestly its like movie pumpkin head meets hunger games meets trick r treat with a full grown sam on a rampage .
Wow, that's an intense one.
Lol so her getting out the car and helping just wasn’t an a option 😂
You telling me that the girl was in the car the entire time and didn’t get out or even peak to see she could’ve helped? The farmer left too she could’ve dug him back out, if not to save him but to take the body away so he wouldn’t turn. Dying for someone who wouldn’t do the same ain’t it chief.
Welcome to the world of bad movies.
How's this town have any residents left if that many boys are killed every year? Or was this just a particularly horrible year?
Movie's a nice allegory for systemic abuse and the dangers of traditions we don't know all the facts about though.
I think it was a just a horrible year.
Many women with 1 man drrr
Yeah, "allegory" or "theme" is always the critique's excuse for bad and lazy writing.
Well, technically, humanity doesn't need that many males to reproduce. Way more women pass on their genes than men. That's why those boys are expendable.
Only one boy from each family. Most families have multi kids!! Also that was a bad year

Yup.
it is sad and sickening. The kids think they can leave, but they can't. The winner becomes the new Pumkinhead. We've seen this before in another series, Pumpkinhead.

Is this the Jeepers Creepers' origin story? Jack must've evolved his wings.
I am confused once it is revealed about the truth. How do they keep the person that is the new creature alive or bring them back to life if they are buried that night of the hunt???
Same way Sawtooth Jack has supernatural powers.
They're not alive, their dead bodies are being posessed.
duh, it's all witchcraft, black magic and all that stuff
The person who become sawtooth jack is first buried (and therefor die) then on the next year they dig out the body, fill it with candies and then unleach it on the town.
While its not show what kind of magic is done, its clearly magic as the creature is show to do supernatural fits.
Have you never heard of magic in your life bruh.
Considering how many boys died in this one movie, and that each family can only offer a son once, there’s no way this would be a town. It would have to be a freaking city or else you’d run out of eligible boys to take part.
Pumpkin head, meets the purge, meets children of the corn
Yup.
Plot twist: If the dad killed the cop earlier they would’ve both escaped town, then all 3 of them could’ve jumped the farmer and won.
not everything is a plot twist
This is awesome lol. Random small town, confirmed super natural threat they have to fight every Halloween, and they get money, a crib, and a car if they kill the monster? Gnarly lifestyle.
Edit: Screw the obvious twist. Im backing the annual super natural battle for money, a crib, and a car. Nothing else needed. Id watch that movie.
If I were to read the premise of this movie it would sound stupid and cliché, but this actually looks like a decent movie
