The rear brake caliper was not working anymore. I changed the piston. However the problem from this brake caliper is not that the piston is fixed, but the axel from the handbrake is fixed. The only thing that has to be done is cleaning the brake caliper with brake cleaner and spray penetrating oil between the handbrake lever and caliper.

@8:00 aligning the piston cut outs within the piston is vital. It aids assembly as well as problem with uneven wear of the inner brake pads. Good video.

Jerry - good job! You're the only one that mentioned the right side caliper is counterclockwise. All other vids or toyota workshop manual tells you nothing. THANKS!

A good note, I realised this a few days ago myself. Instead of going in, the piston was getting out! I had to replace the boot anyway, so it was not an issue. A lesson well learnt.

The clockwise/anticlockwise feature is true on all rear calipers with wind in pistons. All makes, everywhere. Exceptions are rare.

Thank you, this will become helpful later on. Good job with filming single handedly, its easy to follow every step.

You`re welcome! I was so angry when I came by the Toyota dealer when they informed me I have to pay 900 Euro for 2 rear brake callipers that I started to do it myself I`m a mechanical engineer, but never worked on cars theoretically I learned it 25 years ago hahaha. If by every maintenance the dealer had cleaned the callipers and greased the shaft the problem would never appeared. Now I drive the last 3 years a Fiat Tipo 1.6 diesel automatic and is the best quality car I ever had much better than Toyota!

I would put the superior original piston back. There is no problem with the calipers, it is just dirty muddy cause corrosion on the mechanical hand brake. One reason we wash the underbody regularly

You could actually use handbrake lever on the caliper to remove piston, without need of pushing the pedal

hey great video, do you really need to line up the caliper with the peg on the pad wouldn't that stop the piston rotating when you apply the brake

    • @jerryd6062

If you don`t line up the peg the piston push wrong the pressure on the brake pad. I strongly recommend to line up the peg. It`s also very easy to line up the peg.

Great video, I followed the steps exactly, but I can't remove the dust rubber, how you did that?

I have the same problem. I cleaned the lever as it was stuck. the spring didn't have enough power to retract it. After spraying a lot of WD40 it is moving better but still not perfect.
I m thinking about removing the nut that holds the handbrake lever at the back of the caliper to give it a good clean. Do you think that it is safe to remove only the lever? with brake fluid being still pressurised?
    Thanks

I would remove the piston first to see if there is corrosion. Anyway a good clean up is good to do. Dirt and corrosion are the main reason that the piston block.

After i painted my brake calipers now the ebrake on left caliper always stay a little stuck.
I think brake cleaner dried it out...
    What can i do...?
I can feel the car holding back when i go from a stop.

Spray a little WD40 on the shaft bearing from the handbrake. You can do this from the outside

      @@jerryd6062 hello...
I sprayed a lot of wd40 and lithium grease on the handbrake caliper lever on the backside of the caliper and still the wheel is blocked.
Also yesterday while driving 80km/h the brake disc got very hot and red.

@@K_N_44 Push the piston out and look if it`s stuck there. There exist aftermarket repair sets included piston.

@@K_N_44 No, because the hydraulic pressure will go to the other three callipers and car unloaded brake very little in the back. Hanging brake you feel
