    🏅Previous record holder - lowest round count for optic-ready service rifle
    Sweden 🇸🇪 makes expensive and useful furniture... for rifles. The AK4 (Automatkarbin 4) is a 1:1 copy of the German H&K G3 with a longer stock. The AK4D, however, is the last iteration of the modernized version of the AK4 / G3 system that Sweden uses.
    The AK4C and AK4D systems are most notable for using a Spuhr upgraded stock that redirects the recoil impulse, shortens the length of pull and increases the shooter's sight height for optics use.
    Specifically the AK4D system is upgraded as a "stop-gap" measure before the Swedish Armed Forces find a new permanent 7.62x51 NATO caliber DMR. (Many speculate this to be something equivalent to the HK417/Scar17-20 type rifles)
    At the end of the day, Swedish forces basically took aging 50-year-old G3 type rifles and re-outfitted them for general issue and marksman issue. The AK4C/D story is one of Swedish pragmatism by spending less on new rifles so that they could afford more useful items in their military like night vision or thermals.
    The AK4d is not without fault. Many of them are issued with aging Hensoldt Z24 4x28mm scopes for their marksmen. So how would this old piece of tech perform with some of the latest modernization upgrades? We find out and also hear from Karl, the Swedish Army Marksman program instructor.
    For reference:
    AK4 - stock G3 with irons
    AK4B - irons cut off, 1913 rail welded on top with Aimpoint
    AK4C - the AK4B with Spuhr stock with Aimpoint
    AK4D - full conversion with Spuhr stock, handguard and atlas bipod with Aimpoint or Hensoldt Z24 4x28 scope (or optional scope)

    We''ve been getting numerous comments that people think that we are suggesting that the AK4 series are Sweden's main service rifle. It's not, we also didn't say that. See this timestamped video: th-cam.com/video/5CsHEdOFmzM/w-d-xo.html

      @9-Hole Reviews This is a great video.
      The opinion on the reliability of the G3 style rifle is polarized on the internet. Some said that it is ammo sensitive and need to keep the flute chamber clean while some said that it will run forever like an AKM and it doesn't care how dirty the locking area is.
      I am wondering whether you have discussed about how does the dirty roller delayed system perfromed. Did the instructor mentioned that they need to frequenly clean the rifle or just leave it as an AKM and not to worry about it. I have heard that roller delayed system is dirty, but it doesn't affect the reliability; it is an AK in the 308 class. Is that true?
      If not, would the cleaning procedure be cumbersome?
      Thank you very much. Best gun channel on youtube.

    When I was a conscript in Swedish army I had luck , I got a brandnew Ak 4 , I was shocked at the precision when we were at the range , a new Ak4 have 25mm group at 100 meter with ordinary ball ammo , Imagen what it would do with match ammo ,
    The rifle is heavy , they forced us to run from morning to late afternoon with the rifle with Light combat gear,
    In the beginning you thought your arms would fall of , after couple weeks you didnt feel the weight , it became a part of you , the rifle is very sturdy , easy to dissambly and assembly , as a DMR rifle with a scope say 1-6 ore 1- 8 you reach 700 meter - 800meters with a new rifle , I liked it very much , would trust it .

Then I got a G3 no scope only with bipod, and it was so smooth and easy assembly/maintenance (except put the bolt back together fack that!) that I fell in love with it. Got great accuracy and even in full auto prone get everything on black target at 300m. The HK11 was very very control on full auto. On 10k treks I did notice the wieght...

      I also had a G3 as a conscript in the Norwegian Army. Mine was a bit loose in the connection between the stock and receiver. Drills especially hurt that part and then you have a rifle which buck and hit you right under the eye unless you hold it like a wild animal. Fun to shoot, but coming from competition shooting I felt that the average G3 was a very crude tool. The ergonomics is also terrible unless you are shorter than 6,5/195cm. Your left hand position shooting unsupported laying down is very cramped, or your elbow angle will be too large. A tight rifle with a bipod and a scope, that’s something else altogether.

      @johanness3850 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@super6_1 Well I'm being even more pedantic. A shock cone is a component in some jet engines, I believe you are looking for the word: "Vapor cone", which is a cone of water vapor produced when objects travel through the air at high speed, most notably transonic. (not supersonic, which is why they often appear and quickly disappear when jets are accelerating from subsonic to transonic to supersonic)
      To be clear, the phenomenon occurs because as the object is travelling it is producing a variance in pressure around it, which we know as a shockwave. This pressure variance can cause the water in the atmosphere to rapidly undergo condensation (as we all know, the boiling point changes as the pressure in the air does.), thereby becoming visible to optical devices, such as a human eye.
      The name shock cone is perhaps more logical, as the water isn't even a vapor, that's its entire thing. The water becomes visible due it NOT being a vapor. Not to mention the cone is produced by a shockwave. But here we are.

    I've had the pleasure of having an opportunity to shoot an AK4, courtesy of the Latvian National Guard. A bog-standard AK4, none of these fancy improvements.
    The comment about being 'too weak', I could not agree more with. Being a very lightweight guy, in my experience the recoil absolutely kicked the living daylights out of me and the charging handle was decidedly stiff. I don't blame any of that on the gun. Despite showing its age, it's still a serviceable rifle. Sure, nothing fancy by modern day standards, but I'd gladly rely on one if I had to.

      I very much agree, AK4b in Swedish service is a home guard rifle btw, I missed if that came up or not in the video, the Army has the AK5, anyway, the AK4 kicks the shit out of a small/light guy or gal shooting it, it moved me around on the range when prone :D and the AK4B is a gigantic rifle if you are shorter in statue, I'm 5'10 so in Swedish terms I'm a shortarse and with uniform, splintervest and combatt vest and all the gear on on you get too bulky and will have difficulty pushing the rifle in at the sholder enough to get a good sight going. But it's accurate and 7.62 will get most badguys on their backs in a hurry. I wish the shorter stock were available during my 10 years in the home guard.

    They’re all good weapons. But we all know it’s the FN MAG and the 84mm Carl Gustav recoilless which makes the real difference.

But man was it heavy to haul around, and using it dynamically for a full day on the range is a serious workout.

    During basic training, like 95-96, we used the AK-5. Absolutely loved it, light, very comfortable to use when clearing buildings too. Much later when I joined the Home Guard we instead used the regular AK-4 and yeah it's quite the difference. It surely packs a greater punch, but it definately is heavier and clearing buildings with it could get awkward at times too due to the size and weight of it.

    The Hensoldt scopes for the AK4 is actually quite nice for shooting on the range, the glass is good and the turrets are fast and clearly marked. All i've seen in service in Sweden are made in 1977. The old reticle is a minor problem but the big problem with them that you did not mention is eye relief and eybox. The eye relief is super short which is not very fun in a .308, and the eyebox is minimal.

    Just a sidenote about the length. We used the old version of Swedish AK4 for our training. Our conscripts don't get away just because they are short. Somebody complained. Our 160 cm instructor told them off. He can shoot just fine with it and preferred it to Galil. That's an opinion.
    But... Our best shooter was 140-150 cm dude ( I didn't ,essure, ok). He might have different opinion about the length. But that doesn't change the fact he had better grouping on the target than anyone else. Funny as hell seeing him crawling into an unimog, but no joke with a gun.

      FALs are going to be 2.5-4 MOA guns unfortunately. Good enough for work out to 500 yards on human sized targets but it ain't gonna be super consistently accurate

    • @lucastonoli3256
      @lucastonoli3256 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@signs80 People have built 1 MOA FALs, but shit is finicky, barrels are meh, handguards are usually awful. A free-float handguard and some small shop were making good barrels like a decade ago, but that's all gone. You're right about the platform not being geared toward top accuracy, but good gunsmithing can do wonders, and - ultimately - the most critical component to precision is the ammo and the barrel.

    • @signs80
      @signs80 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lucastonoli3256 It's definitely possible it's just cost prohibitive. To build a 1 MOA FAL takes bedding, free float rails, expensive barrels, extra tight lockup with extra attention paid to locking shoulder etc. which puts you in the 3k+ range price wise

    • @lucastonoli3256
      @lucastonoli3256 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@signs80 Yeap, there was a small shop charging something like that several years ago. Don't even want to imagine how much it would go for now. Still an awesome rifle, I'm convinced people are obsessed with a degree of precision that hardly matters or is just too much for them as shooters (the rifle outperforming the shooter, so to speak). For a competition shooter? Sure, chase that precision, the rest of the people need to chill a bit.

      Do a practical accuracy test with a stg44 🙏.. I would love to know how effective that rifle/ammo system actually was, when it came out of the factory back then.. I know it’s a hard challenge, but life is meant to be hard.. Im so fed up watching TH-camrs flipping the switch to fun, and blaze away, every time they get their hands on one.. There has to be someone, that has recently replaced a worn out barrel on a stg44 with a similar.. Hope this message gets through.. That experiment, if done right, could end up, as a important historical document 🙏.. Then afterwards, compare it to the M1 carbine.. That way you compare 2 contemporary cut-down cartridges, with their rifles.. Hope you get this message 👍🏻👍🏻 T Y In advance

      I think I have heard somewhere, that the Germans had a concept for using that rifle.. That the squad infantry only went full auto, when the the squad MG needed to change barrel, then flipped back to semi..

    I wonder if his alarm made him lose his concentration and that’s why he missed that one shot? Could even be that the wind changed between the shots or that he had to reposition himself.

      Yeah, that shot looked rushed, I'm pretty confident he would have connected if he let himself get back in the zone first

    I briefly owned a PTR-91 back about 11 years ago. To say the case extraction was robust would be a huge understatement. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if some of that brass was still in orbit around the earth.

    I'd love to see the PTR-32 and how it compares to AKs and the vz 58 on the rifle course.

      Id be interested as well. I used to own a ptr32. And I can say it is more accuate than the AK, I am more accurate with a VZ and the VZ is sooooo much lighter, I kept the VZ and sold the PTR 32. That said, the ptr is well made.

    Thanks guys for another awesome vid!! One thing Henry: Spitz(-geschoss)[no "-er" at the end, it is not "pointier" than s.th.] is in most parts of Germany pronounced like Schpitz, or Shpitz for all English speakers. As 2.5-lingual person, it shouldn't be to hard for you.
    I tried many times to get FW-Ian to say "Pistole", but he keeps saying "Pistol". Too much bad French influence, I guess😂
