In conclusion, the majority of the season was really good imho but it was dragged down by several unnecessarily dumb scenes which were pretty important though so I get why people are disappointed.
Every season should indeed have a satisfying climax. We can't live for the next season, we have to have a good enough time NOW that we want there to be another season, the human brain remembers based on how well something ended, it's just our nature.
A good example of a story concluding without an epic climax is the Pacific which ironically is also written by HBO in the end of that show the soldiers don't have a final battle with the Japanese or anything that they just were told that the war is over because they nuked Hiroshima and Nagasaki and we're ready to go home. But when they get home they struggle with the horrors of war that they faced during that time and it shows all the characters basically going back to their homes and giving a conclusion to their stories as they return back to their families that's pretty much the whole final episode is just soldiers returning back to the families but it feels so conclusive and satisfying to see because well written.
I found S2 of HoD ok. The last episode of the season was more of an epilogue and laying foundations for S3. The real epitome of S2 was probably the episode just before the last. I highly prefer it to whatever happened in the last few seasons of GoT.
The problem is they change characters but try to maintain the orginal plot or change the plot without changing character arcs. The orginal authors probably spent months thinking about "if this character thinks this and wants that, they would do this..."
I really liked s2, but it was very obvious that ep8 wasn't supposed to be the finaly at all. HBO's decision to cut down from 10eps to 8 + the writer's strike not giving them time to fix the scripts to the new ep count caused some pretty big problems that I hope they can work around for the next season.
You don't understand how television writing works, Martine. Here's the thing - when you are writing a season for a television, you have to keep in mind that this thing will be airing for MULTIPLE weeks. Meaning people will have to be invested every week for the entire durarion of the season. That's a long time and in order for viewers to feel satisfied and that the time they have spend wasnt wasted, there has to be a setup AND a PAY OFF. No, you don't need to have an action or a big battle, but there HAS TO BE a payoff to conclude the season. SPOILERS FOR FIRE AND BLOOD, I WARNED YOU! They could have ended the season with the Battle of the Gullet, or if they indeed didn't want to end the season with a battle, they could have ended it with the Fall of Kings Landing and Rhaenyras ascension to the Throne. Think about it, the whole season we have seen Rhaenyea do nothing. Imagine after all that time and indecisiveness, she actually utilises her new dragon riders and takes KD. That was the payoff in the book which and one which was severely lacking in the show. Instead we got her secretly meating her mortal enemy... AGAIN! And BTW if you were to adapt BoE, you couldn't end the season like the book ends. It wouldn't be a sufficient payoff. You would have to end with penultimate chapter where Geralt chases Rience and almost kills him only to be stopped by Phillipa. With Geralt collapsing, you would have the last scene and a cliffhanger for another season. Yen and Ciri stuff would need to happen beforehand.
I will be honest even before the season finale I was disappointed with the series from the start of S2, for myriad reasons, the constant meetings of Alicent and Rhaenyra, her made up relationship with mysaria, the show's entire bias towards the blacks, character assassination of Aemond, making Jacaerys into a Brat and a misogynist, and finally the worst thing... Alicent selling out her children, a mother selling out her children; everyone agrees with me but most people will just not say anything cuz they're afraid of being cancelled or because the show still somewhat popular but it's quite obvious where it's going
I thought season 2 was alright, but my biggest problem is linking itself to GOT with the prophecy of the long night coming. I just don’t want to be reminded of season 8 and the “Long” Night that lasted one night. And the prophecy I feel takes away Daemon’s agency, when he should have willingly sworn his allegiance to Rhaenyra and she is now this righteous queen fighting to unite the realm rather than someone who is fighting for the throne simply because it’s her birthright.
I didnt like that in S2 alicent plot being changed to make her morally gray was a disregard about the cautionary tale of young evil stepmoms that do horrible things to the first children of the previous marriage.
The more you stop and think about HOTD season 2 the more shit it becomes. Like Daemon at Harrenhall. In ep 7 Lord Tully said that they will fight for Rhaenyra not Daemon. Old guy Strong was present at that conversation, and then he sends raven next episode thinking that Daemon might betray her. With an army that pledged their loyalty to her and despising Daemon for his actions through season 2? Also that battle in ep 4 had really dumb setting. Like the fact that Argon accidentaly flew from KL exactly right before Aemond was about to fly to battle. I hate when stories rely on conviniences too much and this just seem too unlikely. Also why were they transporting injured King from Roost Rest to KL for like two weeks when there are castles on a way, each with maesters that could be forced to treat him. You could make the point that you can't trust maesters, but those men are neutral and if we want to be even more annoying we can assume their tru loyalty might be with Old Town, which is seat of house Hightower. There is more to complain about, like what even was the point of Alicent going to Rhaenyra, but i already wrote too much on a show that is way worse then people sday it is.
There was no money to film the last two episodes which would covered the Fall Of KL and The Battle Of The gulet. The studio is suffering financially and are broke so they cut costs hence scripts were rewritten to extend dialogue scenes and slow the pace down. The was initially a faster pace planned but the studio interfered and cut where they could and didn't have money to film any action stuff. So take it as a build up season as it would make season 3 impactful overall as the writing is still good. Those who find Alicent and Rhaenyra's scenes problematic clearly do not know or understand the tv show characters. They are not their book counterparts. So it would be understandable why they did what they did. And Alicent didn't sell out her children for the sake of it, she did so in rhe hopes that Rhaenyra would have mercy on her given their old friendship since Aemond has proven to be a danger to his siblings and the realm. In s3, when Rhaenyra finds that Aegon is no longer in KL, she will suspect Alicent betrayed her and helped him escape. In turn she will mete out a punnishment that will make Alicent go back to hating her. This might even be the fuel for Alicent to whisper poison in the smallfolk ears and turn them against Rhaenyra thus with the aide of The Sherdeperd sttart the riot since there is nothing for her to do in the book except wait to die
I didn't like it the 2nd season. You showed a shot of Littlefinger and Varys talking while saying GoT was about well written dialogue. For me HotD lacked the kind of verbal fencing that happened between those two characters. Maybe I'm just jaded but I don't care about any of the characters, maybe with the exception of ser Larys but his role is pretty minor. Now I'm interested how Aegon will develop but I'm not that excited about s3. At least we can agree that Witcher Netflix show was bad.
No original idea, copy/paste of already existing stories/IP, no respect for the original writer(s), no respect for the source material, vanity, hubris, heavily pumped with technocratic propaganda and severely lacking in quality - welcome to modern storytelling

I was waiting for your video. Thanks!

They _shouldn't_ end with nonsense.
