The presenter said he wasn't aware of any insect problems and he may not have any in his area. But here in SE Ohio Japanese beetles are indeed a problem. They eat into the buds before they open and the result are blossoms with holes in them.
Yes they're horrible here in Missouri too! I have beautiful tropicals potted 6ft tall I bring them in for the winter. They get Afids as well on the new buds but they don't seem to effect them. The Japanese beetles will ruin the whole plant! I got a jump start this year using neem oil, dishsoap, water in spay bottle! 👍
I use the 777 dust on mind. You can get it from Home depot
I live in the midwest and can say Japanese beetles love hibiscus plants. Although they don't cover them like they will on our apple trees. I just pluck them off and throw them in a bucket of water I carry with me.

I have have one here in Indiana I'm just outside of chicago I have never had any pest issue's or even from it being to cold these are VERY easy to grow. 🌸

I have a giant maple leaf hibiscus that has 2 different colors on it. Last year it was only one.

Gee, here in Utah (northern) I can't find the hardy hibiscus (northern) anymore. I got one about 12 yrs ago. It has been beautiful. Tried to propagate on about 20 cuts, but no luck. Margie

planted 5 Hibisus last year cant weight to see.
MIne look great at the beginning of the season but by the end, the leaves have been stripped to the bone, I've tried everything short of using a flame thrower to try and get rid of what ever it is.

I’ love my hibiscus. Last year I got my beautiful. Tree replaced in a bigger put it didn’t make it. So what did I do wrong??this was the first time this happened. Just yesterday I got two more im now so scared..help.

I was told Full Sun but. I fear mine may be suffering in their environment . Sunrise to sunset . Moisture and fertilizind as durected including mulch keeps the soil cool . I hope they do well . So far, so good . I did not reakize the blooms only lasted one day . This was my concern. The plants themselves are new , bushy , green lush and have had numerous flowers each day . I was afraid they were blooming too fast and furious yet they remain healthy looking .

I am planting my hardy hibiscus for the first time this year...I live in northern California near the Oregon border on the coast.....the weather here is more on the cool cloudy side, so I don't know if they will actually grow..are there any particular pests that attack the hardy??

I live in SW Florida. Just planted (in ground/sandy soil) several different colors etc. I have used Neem to rid some insects but they keep returning....never see them just the chewed up leaves. Any suggestions? Also they drop unopened blossoms ...cause?
This is going to be a tough one for me as the conditions to grow hibiscus in Florida are so different from here in Minnesota, but I'll give it a shot. First, if you are planting in sandy soil, the hibiscus may need more water as they need about 1" of water/week here. The sandy soil and high light intensity there may require more watering. They don't like to be too wet either (soggy soil is a no-no) which can cause bud drop also. Next, if you have it be too hot, over 90 degrees for an extended period that can cause bud drop. Up here in Minnesota, especially in the winter, you can have bud drop because we don't have enough light for the plants which is pretty common. Some varieties need more fertilizer like a bloom booster to help maintain blooming. And finally, pests can cause the buds to abort and drop. You likely have much different insects than here in Minnesota so it is hard to know what may be munching on your plants. Using the Neem is good, and I suggest maybe alternating with washing or spraying the plants with soapy water (I use a mild dish soap mixed with water). This soapy water coats insects and causes them to die. Finally, if you just planted the hibiscus, they may be going through a transplant shock which may cause them to drop buds until they get their roots growing and established. I hope this helps, and for more information, I would recommend calling your local extension office or even your local garden center as they may be able to give you better info specific to your area. I just watched another video that said DO NOT Use Neem oil. Hibiscus 🌺 will drop their buds if you use neem oil. This plant is very sensitive to neem oil and doesn’t like it 🤦♀️🥺. Funny I just read your comment after watching the other video 😃 hope that helps you 😀
I need help mine have small bite looking spots all through the leaves. This has never happened before. We moved it to our new home and I pray I don't lose it . I just don't know what is wrong. Please help me.

My hardy hibiscuses all were badly eaten by bugs! They flowered but some leaves looked like skeletons! I have lily beetles and this year Japanese beetles! Could they be the problem? I’ve had the largest 2 over 15yes.

We just planted a hibiscus, with numerous buds two days ago. Yesterday, one bloomed yellow and today one bloomed pink. I assume because of the size they are Tropical and we live in Central Fla. I was hoping to get a hibiscus tea type variation. Do you have any suggestions?
I am not going to be much help with this question. There are so many species and varieties of hibiscus - it is almost like saying Smith when referring to peoples' names. Since we live in US hardiness zones 3 & 4, I am most familiar with Hibiscus moscheutos (often referred to the hardy hibiscus which may make it through the winter up here with mulching, lots of snow, or luck) and Hibiscus rosa-sinensis (often referred to the tropical species sold up here as house or patio plants). I think these species can be used for tea, but there are others that are more commonly used for teas (Hibiscus sabdariffa and Hibiscus acetosella among others). I would advise contacting the place where they purchased the plants from and get the scoop on the species, bloom, care, use, etc. They should be much more helpful than me, and if not, try contacting your local county extension office or the Florida Nursery, Growers, and Landscape Association. i have a hibiscus in a pot living inside my flowers are lasting 3 day
I got hundreds of green worms eating my plant's leaves to skeletal condition. Nothing seemed to help get rid of them except picking them off manually. Occurred in mid summer to late summer. From what i could find out it was the larvae of a winged black bug with red head.
Rich Fsr these are sawflies. They are already eating all my hardy hibiscus to lacy leaves in spring. I am now using neem oil and garden soap spraying practically every day. Not to mention picking the little green worms by hand. I learn it is important to do it in spring to arrest the 1st generation. They are hiding in the soil during winter so next year I have to treat the soil and keep an eagle eye on the sprouts for the first sign. If you ignore these sawflies ( which I did a few years back) you are going to get more and more each year!
Im using orthonex pest and disese keeps my geranium and roses healthy for months.

You are going to hate my answer of “that depends”. You don’t mention which variety of hibiscus you have. If it came from a flower shop, it is likely not hardy to survive the winter. If it was sold as a hardy variety and hardy to zone 3 or 4, then it should. I have seen a beautiful red one growing at Morris, MN for years and it gets to -30 here! We also have a neighbor who got a non hardy hibiscus as a gift so he brings it in for the winter and puts it back out on the patio in the summer. Good luck! - Mary

If you need height, Lord Baltimore reaches 9 feet in zone 7!
I have had very minor damage on the blooms from Japanese beetles...Terre Haute Indiana area..zone 6a..ish..still some debate....lol
'BLACK' Hibiscus does exist but its very rare.
It is a tropical one or Cajun not sure.
I hate hibiscus now.
