  • This kata was created by Andrea Guarelli to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of 𝑆ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑝𝑜̄ 𝑀𝑎𝑡𝑎𝑦𝑜𝑠ℎ𝑖 Sensei (1921-2021) and is shown in public for the first time.
It contains some techniques taught by Matayoshi Sensei which are not included in the classic katas of the Matayoshi Kobudō.
The date chosen for the publication of this video Is December 27, 2021, the day on which 𝑆ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑝𝑜̄ Sensei would have turned 100 years old.
𝑆ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑝𝑜̄ Sensei often showed and taught some Tunkuwa techniques using the special grip (Tokushu Mochi), however these techniques are not included in the classic Matayoshi Kobudō katas that are taught today.
Master Andrea Guarelli codified these techniques and taught them to his students to prevent them from being lost.
For this reason he created the Tunkuwa Hojoundo Ni of and, on the occasion of the centenary of the birth of Shinpo Matayoshi (1921-2021), the kata Hyakushin no Tunkuwa.
In fact, the name Hyakushin consists of two kanji: Hyaku (百) which means 100 and Shin (真) which is the first kanji used in the names of the sons of the Matayoshi family and of the Ma clan, for example Shin-Ko and 𝑆ℎ𝑖𝑛-P𝑜̄ .
This kata is not and does not want to be a new kata of the Matayoshi Kobudō school, but is meant to be an advanced form commemorating 𝑆ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑝𝑜̄ Sensei which will only be taught within the IMKA.
We believe that perpetuating the memory of 𝑆ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑝𝑜̄ Sensei by constantly practicing a kata that contains his name is the best thing.
