Many schools actually tell you to practice your punches and kicks until you can achieve a speed where your gi makes that snap sound when you punch/kick, the louder the better!

The tonfa is a formidable self-defense weapon indeed. It occurs to me that a man with a (mere) knife, in any attempt to stab, would have little chance against Oshiro with the tonfa.
Seen them. Did not know how they are used. Amazing. Would not want to face this!

Anyone who's practiced Karate can see the high, middle, and low blocks and strikes transfer to Tonga very well. And you can see he even points out you have to use a vertical fist to strike and pull back since a tradition underturned fist will jab the tonfa into your stomach. Would love to see a seminar or participate in a tonfa class for a day!
I know this is an old video but holy shit that's genius, I would have never thought you could mix your own martial arts style you already know with a baton, even with blocking.

When you want the main character in the comic you're writing to use tonfas but you have no idea how they're used so you go to TH-cam to watch how martial arts pros use them.
Sayem not to be disrespectfull or anything but Nightwing's weapons are more akin to something Like batons or stick weapons, the core usage is rather diferent.
Sayem nightwing doesn't use tonfas and even if he did, nightwing didn't invent tonfas so it's not copying

They make it look easy. But that is a tough weapon. Even Sai's aren't as hard as that. I find the tonfa slippery and dangerous.

I do Cheifa no-Tonfa Kata (Isshinryu Karate) in tournaments and win pretty much every time.. I love the tonfas and have a custom made pair. Definitely my weapons of choice
Last month we went to the State Games to compete and my sweet tonfas brought home a gold medal and very pleased with that.
