- Enzo Ferrari long had a dream, and it was to build the greatest race cars of all time. Ferrari succeeded at this on many race circuits, and wanted to do it for Group B as well. They never got the chance. The F40 had its roots in racing, but was built to be driven on the streets of the real world. It’s the ultimate street legal race car, and has carried the mantle of what’s possible when great car companies like Ferrari distill their successful designs into one ultimate driving machine.

This was the first european car that actually GAINED power in US. SPec. Government says 478hp @ 7,000 , 425 lb-ft...but magazines got high 11s< 12.1@122 mph and said it actually made about 500hp.
@n0hav0cyet Never heard that they switched the fuel tanks...have to look into that. I think Road & track issue when the F40 came out said the Added power was due to a different air/fuel mapping to meet emissions.

@@JerseyMikeP You're correct. I know for a fact that every Ferrari F40 brought to the USA was dyno-tuned to put out at least 520hp at the wheels after they arrived at dealerships. And the video is incorrect about the weight of a standard F40. It's 2750 lbs wet, not 3000 lbs. 0-60 time of 3.6 sec, with the quarter mile reached in 11.6 sec @ 126 mph. With modern tires, much faster than that. In fact, I must say, this video was wrong in many ways. Also, it was the first production car to break 200 mph with a top speed of 201 mph.

Definately has and always will be my ultimate dreamcar since childhood. Just looking at the car gives me chills which even most modern supercars cannot compare to. One of my friends and personal clients has an F40 which is finally being shipped next month from Toronto. He's taking me out for a ride in it this summer. My childhood dreams will finally be true

I remember seeing one about 15 years ago pass me on interstate 10 near downtown New Orleans and I said to myself "a million dollars just passed me". Prettiest Ferrari body style ever.
One of the interesting thing on maintaining an F40 is that, if you had non-US model, you had to replace rubber fuel cell every 10 years. US model comes with aluminium tank which is heavier but don't need replacing.

I think Donut may have another series for that, but don't quote me. I actually rented the Senna movie on youtube earlier this week and I must say, it was spectacular! I definitely recommend.
There are at least 3 major change on F40. First is that early car used slide perspex like in race car, but this is found to be unpractical and annoying so next car comes with wind up regular windows. Next come the catalytic converter and last is the adjustable suspension, which helps owner to easily changed their suspension setting.
The F40 is an eternal shape. The perfect car. Will never be beat.
These videos are the perfect example of why we need a LOVE button.

Good video but spoke a lot wrong, the F40 of the first months of production European version had more than 600hps and reached more than 360kmh / 220mph proved by one owner in Boneville and it was 0-100kmh or 0-62mph in about 3.2s , you are speaking of the tests in the F40 from the second semester of production onwards that received several restrictions !! In the next more research or talk to owners of the first units, I talked a lot with one, if you want to move his social networks to ask you more ...

The F40 never made 600bhp from the factory, some made more than the 477, yes.
But the differences were simply down to the fact that the F40 was handbuilt by Italians(Which isn't exactly known for being accurate, just ask Chris Harris).
And Bob Norwoods F40 run in 2006 at Boneville isn't useable in the slightest.
As the F40 used is using slick tyres, and low downforce setup..
Also, just because a guy happen to own the car in question, don't make him a expert, just biased..
You are wrong, the first units had the same power as the 288 GTO EVO, if I am not mistaken the first twenty or thirty, they were lighter and stronger, the engine had no restriction and direct exhaust, if it in fact and not by internet video, I have been working with this type of car for over ten years, I only speak what I have already seen, the owner I spoke to was dynamometer tested a few times, and in all of them it yielded more than 600hps in the wheel!!
Just FYI, I’m pretty sure that 100kph translates to 60mph, not 62 but it might have just been a typo

Also saw a black first gen NSX outside another dealership last week. I was so excited, until I noticed the sign saying "Customer Parking" directly in front of it. Still a sweet car

On 1995 Le Mans, Gordon Murray laughed at the horribly welded chassis, so the Ferrari engineer made a bit that the 7-year-old F40 will be faster than the fresh F1 GTR. Well, it did, by around 1 second (I forgot how much exactly). Well, we all know who took the big trophy home, but just take a second to appreciate how an old Ferrari beat the greatest car ever made.
