@@brianaguila6925 Keep in mind, a LOT of the lore in 40k is intentially written to be vague and open to interperation at times - which aids GW in filling in story at a later time when they don't have an answer at the moment. But, that said. There is a theory floating around that everything that happened with the Horus Heresy, was was forseen by The Emperor and allowed to happen because without it, then the specfic chain of events for His "endgame" would not happen. _(Think 'Infinity Wars' here, Dr. Strange looking into 14mil+ possible futures and only saw 1 where they beat Thanos. That's kinda what's going on here with this theory)_ So, it is well known that The Emperor has a number of abilities granted by his supernatural psychic ability and connection to the warp. One of those, was Foresight/percognitive ability - they very same passed onto Konrad Kurze, albit he got it at a lessened degree. Now, The Emperor knew that a war with the 4 Chaos Gods was inevitable, as well as whatever other threats that are out there. And to beat them, he needed to allow the Heresy to run it's course _(for reasons to be filled in later by GW.)_ So, he knows that the Heresy is going to happen, and he "can't" stop it, but he can steer it in his favor. One way they he did this was by appointing Horus as Warmaster rather than Lion. Even though it's stated that "horus was daddy's favorite" - In fact, The Emperor is on record _with Malcador... I think,_ stating that he could not afford to lose Lion. Also, The Emperor NEEDED to be "slain". This is critical to his plan. For the last 10,000+ years, He's been fed a steady diet of 1000's of psyker souls per day. All their power, binds to his, and while His body is little more than a withered husk in the material universe, inside the Immaterium - He is more powerful than ever before. In Godblight, he torches Nurgles garden like it was nothing without even being there. I have a feeling that it will come out that the Emperor *NEEDED* all of these events to happen - all so He could reach His ultimate goal. Now, the interesting part will be - how much of the Emperor will be left when He "awakens"? I know Guilliman is rather concerned about that very thing. Time will tell. It's possible that all this will go on until M44 or more. Who knows, but GW needs to shake things up pretty soon - and the easiet way for that will be bringing back more Primarchs, building up for the big conflict.

Better that we had all burned in the fires of Horus' ambition than live to see this." -Roboute Guilliman, Primarch of the Ultramarines, reflecting upon the state of the Imperium of the late 41st Millennium and his devotion to the Emperor of Mankind
This is why I believe the next step for the WH40k, what the imperium needs to evolve and move into the next era, is for the Emperor and even Holy Terra itself to finally die. Hear me out, Ultramar and Guilliman have what it takes to become the new center of the Imperium, Guilliman is practically Emperor in all but name at this point, it is time for him to succeed his father. The Terminus Decree, supposedly the last act of the Emperor, may be for Ultramar to once again become the Imperium Sicundus and Holy Terra would burn in psychic fire as the Emperor dies and the Astronomicon unleashes the power of the billions of psychic souls sacrificed to the golden throne. Holy Terra would become an eternal flame burning bright within normal space and in the warp itself. The Emperor's psychic will would emerge as a being of the immaterium, reborn as a true God to rival those of chaos. The Imperium would be given new life in a single moment as the Emperor's essence would be felt by all across the Galaxy and the imperium would be united in faith. Guilliman would then be in a position to lead a newly reborn imperium from Ultramar as the new Emperor serving in the name of his now truly divine father.

This, this is why Roboute needed to return. Because the Imperium doesnt need another warrior. They need a leader, a man who knew what the Emperor wanted for mankind. A man who understood when to put aside the sword to build an empire.
True. I don't think any of the primarchs was fitted to do what Daddy Guilliface can do. Even the lion, Vulcan, or let's say the traitors like the dead horus, or filgrim can do administrative work
I'm new to Warhammer 40,000,i barely know 5% of the whole lore, I have not even had figures and recently, I investigated why the Ultramarines are so hated by the community for being so perfect and almost superior in every way to any other chapter of Space Marines (being that they are not necessarily), but, in spite of that, really after seeing this video, I can not hate them or anything, they are really great and amazing, I do not understand because just being very popular they are so hated , in any franchise of games, comics or almost anything, there is always a character symbol which attracts you and that is the idea. The Ultramarines are as great as any other chapter, it does not really matter if they are much admired or given much attention.
The reason why they are hated isn't because of the Ultramarines themselves, it's because of how Matt Ward written their lore, including such incredible levels of wank that he claimed all space marines look up to Marneus Calgar as their "Spiritual Liege" which has become a meme now. The Ultrasmurfs were completely fine until he got his hands on them. Matt is incapable of making balanced rulebooks/codexes and lore.

Marylandbrony Why is it that people have this weird idea that anything would compete with Warhammer? Space Marines would slaughter Mandolorians. There is a good video you should watch on this topic, I believe the channel is Kirioth TV. Edit: Yep, watch the video called Warhammer 40k vs Star Wars on Kirioth TV.
Funfact: The Ultramarines were the 13th legion of the Adaptes Astartes. Legio Gemina that was founded by Julius Caesar to conquer Gaul and that crossed the Rubicon with him to become emperor of the Roman Empire was the 13th legion of the Roman army.
Secondary fun fact: Julius caesar had 3 legions. Claudia, Fulminata and Gemina. These three fought with caesar from start to finish. Somewhat intresting, legio Claudia, which was disbanded and re-founded most among all the legions during roman history, was numbered 11, which is also one of WH40k lost legions.
Third fun fact I just remembered: during caesars civil war there were 18 active legions in Roman military. Numbers 15 and 16 had been lost before the civil war. So maybe 2 missing primarchs is pulled from this?

Such magnificence... In the grim darkness of the far future; I see the very face of hell, even my dreams... there is very little that moves me. This video of Ultramar is one of those few things.
I have to admit, this changes my view on the Ultramarines. Presented in this way, it softens the "Games Workship's posterboy, that's why" rationale behind their existence and their lore and product lines. Now I am interested in building a regiment of Astra Militarum from the Realm of Ultramar.

arch's lore videos have been sub-par over the years, cept for fantasy lore. since most of his 40K lore videos are generally straight wiki reads, and he fell for one of the bigger traps a few years ago and still won't let it go.
tbh it makes sense about Ultramar, it stayed together during the dark age so that kept the worlds together and meant it was functionally what the imperium was aiming for so the crusade was more a 'good work carry on' than a bring them back in, then post heresy the whole making it serve the ultramarines directly helps, 1)the locals have a local thing to pride themselves with, saying 'we support those ultramarines right there' is so much better than a vague 'we tithe stuff to the imperium' that's why Cadia and the other marine homeworlds fair so well that investment, its a long way from the Eye so its not a top target for the traitor legions, and by being literally run by the ultramarines it keeps the administration local, small, efficiant rather than part of the big wheels because ultimately with their long range communication being 'vague psyker messages' or 'send a ship' and those being 'unreliable' a centrally controlled empire is insane hence the subdivision into segmentums and sectors, but those win or loose based on the quality of governor, the Ultramar sector is governed by a near immortal brainwashed imperial zealot educated to be the top dog in the 'tactics and strategy' branch and 'logistics' is important, its why the High Lords of Terra and the imperium in general have always disliked and distrusted ultramar its essentially a rogue state that waves the imperial flag, but absent the emperor its a better method, heck most chapters could do a similar thing
i've no idea how someone is disliking this video? the narration alone was so amazing! let alone the research done to get all this info sum it up perfectly like that! amazing work guys
@Roboute Guilliman not necessarily, know that if the whole of Earth's modern-day dry surface was as densely populated as Hong Kong, the world would have ~4 trillion people on it. Knowing that Holy Terra is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more overbuilt than that, and forget the fact that little water remains on Holy Terra. While unlikely to have a quadrillion people on it, Terra's population easily exceeds 50 trillion.
HAH! Well, since you replied to my comment, I might as well double check to make sure you might see my suggestion. ;) The LDO from Dies Irae please. It's such an awesome and underrated group. It makes the Millennium group from Hellsing Ultimate look like the My Little Pony show.
The million worlds part is as close as any canon source will go, giving you a million souls per world. I agree that might be a conservative estimate, but probably not by nearly as much as you may think. Multi-billion soul Hives and Forge Worlds are a clear minority amongst the *much* less insanely populated classifications such as Agri-worlds, Civilised/Imperial, Feudal, Feral, Frontier/Colony, Research Bases, Death Worlds and other minor planetary outposts that encompass that million world figure. The Imperial population probably really is in the high trillion range, especially when you consider the devastating rates of attrition slowing growth outside of the (again, uncommon) hives.
@Alexander DiRaddo But how many of the worlds around the 100 billion stars are habitable? Also most planets tend to be gas giants, not exactly something you can colonize. Also the Imperium only occupies 60% of the galaxy.
Not a chance, as great as Gilliman is, he is to the Emperor as a normal human is to a Primarch, when the Big E returns and brings forth his great plan (which he will) some serious ass is going to be whooped. Gilliman, the Lion and Rogal dorn etc will handle the normal kick ass stuff, but the Emperor will take on the Chaos Gods DIRECTLY, that will be a battle beyond a mortals comprehension, even a Primarchs. 40k is just beginning and is going to be epic.
the way i allways saw it was that each primarch represents one of the emperors many virtues so they each can rival the emperor in one specific dicipline but overall they are all inferior to him guillimans statescraft is comperable to the emperors but in all other categories he is inferior magnus's psycic abilities are comperable to the emperors but in all other senses he is inferior etc however i think if all 20(!) primarchs wouldve managed to be on the exact same side they would vastly outclass the emperor specifically because they are multiple people in multiple bodies meaning they can divide their attention alot better then the emperor, if the 20 primarchs went to war with the emperor they would beat him easily, which is in my theory exactly why all of the pirmarchs have their own issues and vices to make sure that they dont gang up on the emperor, to make sure that there is allways rivalry, jealousy and strife between the brothers
I know next to nothing about the WH40K universe and still enjoyed this video greatly. I have two suggestions for future videos if I may: The Commrnwealth from the books of Peter F. Hamilton. The Race from Harry Turtledoves WorldWar series.
I appreciate the existence of such content and as a newcomer I could have certainly enjoyed such visuals alongside the lore. One can forgive the Phalanx being used as stock image for a fortress monastery, but no one can forgive the use of an alpha legionnaire image as a noble ultramarine. No matter how loyal some of them may still be.

@@ConfusedGuardsman That would actually be an interesting story for an AU. What if in an AU, Roboute Guilliman is able to ally with Yvraine and the Ynnari and gets them to share their web way technology with the Ultramarines in exchange for protection and military support (ik xenophobia and what not but I’d like to think Guilliman would see the benefits of having web way technology in Ultramar). Guilliman then builds a web way portal on each of the 500 worlds of Ultramar thus allowing for a completely centralized empire to exist within the decentralized imperium. Thus when the Emperor dies and with him the astronomicon thus causing the whole imperium to collapse Ultramar remains as this pocket of human galactic civilization while the rest of the imperium falls into isolation and darkness.

As I said it would be good to choose Ultramar instead of giant Imperium. Nice work ! BTW Ultramar is not a sub-sector. Sub-sectors are like parts of Sector. And also there is huge differences in Sectors scale throughout Imperium. From "small" Calixis sector to Ultramar (combination of Sectors I would say) which holds 500 worlds.

I thought the ultra marines were relatively untouched by the Horus Heresy because he'd sent them on missions to the far reaches of the galaxy, to keep them out of the fight. He knew they'd be fearlessly loyal to the Emperor and would have little or no chance of getting them on his side.

8:40 Yes, truly this is Warhammer. Super-Soldiers, normal humans, lasguns, plasma-guns, mounted cavalry, super-heavy tanks, deamons, Deamonic engines, Titans, and swords all somehow fit into a single picture.
0:25 The Inquisition and the Adeptus Terra will have you know that there are Hive Worlds with populations surpassing hundreds of billions of souls, of which His Imperium has many. A mere trillion is insultingly underestimating the vastness of Mankind.

Glad to see some Warhammer 40k! Great job! I would also recomend the Adeptus Mechanicus, Tau empire, or the Necrons if you want to do more videos on Warhammer 40k. I would also reccomend the Earth Clan from David Brin's Uplift books. That series needs a lot more love than it gets!
Wow, as a hardcore 40k fan with in depth knowledge of it. Your video was well put together and what felt like a 18min was only 10. The pacing and narration was excellent. The explanation was enough but not so in depth as to confuse the hell out of non 40k fans, 40k is pretty damn epic but at times crazy and wacky.
I got a question which i can't really find an answer for. After the Horus Heresy the Realm of Ultramar was reduced from 500 worlds to just around 13 star systems. The rest were given away to successor chapters or independent administration. Does "independent administration" mean that they lost all ties to Ultramar and became normal imperial worlds, with all the downsides of that? Or could they keep doing things the Ultramar-style? I try to build an own star systems with lore and everything and i want it to make sence within the wider story. Thanks in advance.
The Ultramarines series with Captain Uriel Ventris was one of the first Warhammer 40K series I read and it was epic. I also like the Ciaphas Cain novels, Armageddon, Storm of Iron, and Death World (Catechans).

The Tau are dirty commie xenos that can't even melee.
And when you make alliance with commie xenos, whos strategy is to expand by lying and buying worlds to join, you undermine empire of man by whole, let xenos gather intel on imperium and device a plan to destroy holy terran empire from with in. Now if Tau would just lay down their arms and submit to terran empire work as wangard force, chaos would be dealed in no time! Though there is still few little problems in the universe mainly necrons. Tyranids and orcs you can deal with enough flames and dakka dakka.
Alliances mean necessarily cooperation, that lead those dirty xenos spying empire... Though deal such as 1 dont come to our turf 2. dont shoot at us and we dont shoot you 3. goal is to destroy chaos... well that could possible work, if each faction would push in their own sector... Though whats a chance of cowardly Eldar bringing even one of their precious hive ships into eye of terror? Also during this operation, what prevents Necron or orcs invading? Not to mention Terran is too weak to fight such offensive war in its current state.. if you havent notice, we have been only fighting defensive was in past decades, losing more and more planets all a time?....or is this your final goal, to distract Empire so it can be destroyed from with in!? DO YOU SERVE THE DARK GODS, YOU HERETIC?!
"Why do I still live? What more do you want from me? I gave everything I had to you, to them. Look what they've made of our dream. This bloated, rotting carcass of an empire is driven not by reason and hope but by fear, hate and ignorance. Better that we had all burned in the fires of Horus' ambition than live to see this."

That's what you get for following a monster, you bastardized smurf
The emperor a monster? HERESY! BLAM!
Dont worry, my father commands again

Emperor: Hail Papa Smurfs!
They are hated because of I, Cato Sicarius, the only named character that uses his helmet, making me capable of astonishing levels of Mary Sueness.
@@thefirstprimariscatosicari6870 a character that uses his... his.... his helmet? WHAT HERECY IS THIS!!! Contact the inquisitors and the imperial navy. Ordo exterminatus shall be placed upon the world he resides upon!

They are NOT superior to ANYONE - but they are superior generalists.

Why is it that people have this weird idea that anything would compete with Warhammer? Space Marines would slaughter Mandolorians. There is a good video you should watch on this topic, I believe the channel is Kirioth TV.
Edit: Yep, watch the video called Warhammer 40k vs Star Wars on Kirioth TV.
he did a decent job, but he was admittedly a little loose on certain points.
Also the adoptive son of Big E primarch of Ultramar look like Caesar Augustus (Like Julius adopted Augustus)

This was honestly one of the best lore videos I've watched that covers the Imperium, you're up there with Mr. H reviews and ArchWarhammer!
arch's lore videos have been sub-par over the years, cept for fantasy lore.
since most of his 40K lore videos are generally straight wiki reads, and he fell for one of the bigger traps a few years ago and still won't let it go.
which trap?
To mention 40k lore and not mention Luetin and Oculus is heresy! Arch is boring, he doesnt even have imagery...
The Ultramarines are very special, aren't they?
... damn Smurfs.
tbh it makes sense about Ultramar, it stayed together during the dark age so that kept the worlds together and meant it was functionally what the imperium was aiming for so the crusade was more a 'good work carry on' than a bring them back in, then post heresy the whole making it serve the ultramarines directly helps, 1)the locals have a local thing to pride themselves with, saying 'we support those ultramarines right there' is so much better than a vague 'we tithe stuff to the imperium' that's why Cadia and the other marine homeworlds fair so well that investment, its a long way from the Eye so its not a top target for the traitor legions, and by being literally run by the ultramarines it keeps the administration local, small, efficiant rather than part of the big wheels because ultimately with their long range communication being 'vague psyker messages' or 'send a ship' and those being 'unreliable' a centrally controlled empire is insane hence the subdivision into segmentums and sectors, but those win or loose based on the quality of governor, the Ultramar sector is governed by a near immortal brainwashed imperial zealot educated to be the top dog in the 'tactics and strategy' branch and 'logistics' is important,
its why the High Lords of Terra and the imperium in general have always disliked and distrusted ultramar its essentially a rogue state that waves the imperial flag, but absent the emperor its a better method, heck most chapters could do a similar thing
Yep, the great civilisers of the Crusade. They're the Roman Legion... In spaaaaaaaaace!

I think there's quite a bit more than a trillion people in the entier Imperium- somewhere in the quadrillions I beleive.
Panana Beals the estimations people made were between 4 and 14 quadrillion if i rember right.
Could even be more
not included, servitor and mutant
Terra alone fits that
@Roboute Guilliman not necessarily, know that if the whole of Earth's modern-day dry surface was as densely populated as Hong Kong, the world would have ~4 trillion people on it. Knowing that Holy Terra is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more overbuilt than that, and forget the fact that little water remains on Holy Terra. While unlikely to have a quadrillion people on it, Terra's population easily exceeds 50 trillion.

"a million worlds and a trillion souls.''

To be fair we are technically correct. The Imperium has a trillion souls, but also many trillion more.
HAH!
Well, since you replied to my comment, I might as well double check to make sure you might see my suggestion. ;)
The LDO from Dies Irae please.
The Imperial population probably really is in the high trillion range, especially when you consider the devastating rates of attrition slowing growth outside of the (again, uncommon) hives.
start with that 1 million worlds...
@Alexander DiRaddo But how many of the worlds around the 100 billion stars are habitable? Also most planets tend to be gas giants, not exactly something you can colonize.
Also the Imperium only occupies 60% of the galaxy.
Ahh, the Realm of the Smurfs.

That is enough! My Lord I am now fortifying this comment thread, with your permission of course.
So, is Gilliman the one Primarch who could actually supplant his father in greatness?
Heresy! This one right here inquisitor!
40k is just beginning and is going to be epic.
the way i allways saw it was that each primarch represents one of the emperors many virtues so they each can rival the emperor in one specific dicipline but overall they are all inferior to him
guillimans statescraft is comperable to the emperors but in all other categories he is inferior
magnus's psycic abilities are comperable to the emperors but in all other senses he is inferior etc
however i think if all 20(!) primarchs wouldve managed to be on the exact same side they would vastly outclass the emperor specifically because they are multiple people in multiple bodies meaning they can divide their attention alot better then the emperor, if the 20 primarchs went to war with the emperor they would beat him easily, which is in my theory exactly why all of the pirmarchs have their own issues and vices to make sure that they dont gang up on the emperor, to make sure that there is allways rivalry, jealousy and strife between the brothers
In the subject of administator. Yes, hell he's probably better than the emperor on that regards
Other than that... Nope
I know next to nothing about the WH40K universe and still enjoyed this video greatly.
I have two suggestions for future videos if I may:
The Commrnwealth from the books of Peter F. Hamilton.
The Race from Harry Turtledoves WorldWar series.
Fix that. Warhammer 40k is amazing!
It is A LOT of lore

So so so epic with that music. Listening to this I want just to fly to Ultramar and join the Ultramarines. Very well done guys
That narrative was amazing! Good job to both Larissa and the writer.
Ah we finally get a Warhammer video and of course even a subsector like the Realm of Ultramar takes a good solid ten minutes to explain. Gotta love Warhammer's scale. Great video guys!

Easy ... but to busy fightint 100 wars in.the same time like the imperium fighting 10000 wars in the same time
Macragge alone is enough to obliterate the insignificant Tau.
The Emperpr protects
If Guilliman or even Calgar gave enough of a shit to kill the Tau then yes.
Massive Dynamic from Fringe, please!Love your work! Really well produced and narrated.
This video got me hype as hell. I need to burn heretics now
Wow, as a hardcore 40k fan with in depth knowledge of it.
I still like the space wolves with their wolf cookies, and their wolf cupcakes!
Hey Templin Institute! New subscriber here and I'm loving your channel! Keep up the great work!
Might I suggest doing some videos on the lore of the DESTINY factions? The Hive, The Cabal, the Vex, and the Fallen all have super interesting cultures and structural compositions on a civilization-level, and the Last City of Earth and the Reef are not very explored by many other channels... So if I had to choose a suggestion, might I suggest The Eliksni Houses for a video?
Thanks, and keep up the excellent work!
NOBILITIS ULTRAMARINI

Very nice, 40k content is always appreciated. Crossing my fingers for the Tau Empire at some point.

The ones with the most marketing, that's for sure
One can only wonder on how they can accomplish such impossible tasks so easily.
