  • When it comes to making everyday decisions, we’re a lot less rational than we think. The good news for marketers? There are universal behavioural principles that can help us understand how biases influence the purchases people make. In the first episode of our new series, we share an overview of one of our biggest studies on consumer behaviour and learn why it's important for brands to show up in “The Messy Middle.”

Really great content, very engaging and insightful, but really struggled with the obvious reading from the script.

Kristen, your decision to go with the non-Hyatt is a "rational" one, not an emotional one. Cos you do get a free breakfast and its nearer to the tennis ground. If you go with Hyatt, you are being emotionally attached to it (loyalty), given it is further away from the tennis court and does not offer u free breakfast.( not rational). And on hindsight, just, because u did not take the breakfast, does not mean that your decision was not rational. My point is u did made a rational decision by choosing a non-hyatt, by making an "astro" decision because Hyatt is more expensive.

I don't think her decision was a rational one in her case because she needed to accumulate loyalty points, which might also provide her with benefits in the future. However, she ended up making an impulsive decision after noticing that the non-Hyatt option included breakfast. She didn't consider her situation, even though she had planned to play tennis in the morning. I also believe that rational decisions can vary depending on various factors and circumstances, not just a matter of price. I might be wrong since I'm still a student, and I also respect your opinion, even if it was made 3 years ago Haha
