    We as African American need to really change our eating habits. But because of the poverty level, it is hard to buy healthy food products. Sometimes you have to make a decision between medicine and food. You really have to exercise and eat right. This has really helped me.

      You don't need to buy healthy food. Just cut out all the carbs, and fat in your diet. Instead of frying your chicken, bake it with the skin removed. Use olive oil instead of lard or butter. Drink water or even diet soda instead of sweet tea. Eating healthy is cheaper because you're eating less but get full quicker since you're consuming protein and fiber instead of processed carbs.

    Heaven forbid if I had to live in a place like Mississippi, I would desire lots of comfort food to amortize having to live in what seems like an awfully uncomfortable place.

    Honestly one of the biggest challenges of obesity in the states is the portion sizes. Most places serve just way way too much food for one person. If you're grow up being told to finish your plate, then portions that easily serve two can become a problem over time.

    Laziness causes this I'm sorry, Mississippi has large areas that can be farmed. Start with a small backyard garden with tomatoes, cucumers, cabbage, etc...our ancestors did it and so can we!

  • @vickieoglesby3257
    @vickieoglesby3257 7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    Unhealthy food..fried..chicken..
    collard greens cooked in salt and ham..pig feet..and more. You can make these healthy by baking the chicken..cooking the collards without salt..and ham..you can use pieces of healthier meat like turkey in that..i dont want my arteries clogged up..good food dont have to be greasy..or salty..or too much sugar..there are recipes you can substitute now. No excuse.

      yep,, i've been cooking the collard greens in about 1-2 tbs. of olive oil. and saute i just use a bit of pink sea salt. chicken yes,, batter and bake,,,it will be nice,, I don't really know southern food, but i love collard greens and yams, but i like all my food to have flavor, and not this heaps of oils,,,Well i learned about Mississippi... I would grow veggies for Sure Though and fruit trees.

    50% of the comments are being racist,The other 48% is people saying that black women are disgusting I completely disagree with that That statement,people saying how skinny they are the other 1% of people actually standing up for the black women!

  • @abracadaverous
    @abracadaverous 13 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    @hoghtonborn Did you watch to 5:44? Of course she can cook. That's not the issue. The issue is that affordable fresh produce of decent quality isn't available as readily as cheap, processed, high-fat food. When you're on a limited budget and you have three kids crying to be fed NOW, and you can buy a whole fast food meal more cheaply than a pound of mushy apples, it's no wonder people make the choices they make.

      This is a huge pitfall people fall into when trying to lose weight. People will work out for an hour or two and feel they can eat whatever they want now. However, they greatly overestimate how many calories they burned off (those meters on the machines that say how many calories you've burned aren't accurate at all). So, because they feel they can afford it, they eat more than they would have if they hadn't exercised and end up consuming even more calories than normal.
      The idea that you need to "Hit the gym" to lose weight is inaccurate. While that obviously helps, a vast majority...70% minimum...of your focus should be on changing your diet. That is what will help you lose and keep off the weight. To go back to my example above, you could work rigorously at the gym for two hours and all you'd probably burn off is a Snickers bars. It's significantly quicker and easier to simply remove the Snickers Bars.

    Very dangerous to workout and be unhealthy. Odds are you won't recover from the last workout. Better to eat right get your body ready by training it to absorb the nutrients again. Usually it's caused by insulin resistance or your body is unable to absorb nutrients

    The scientific evidence strongly suggests cheap carbohydrates is the primary cause of obesity but this video kept suggesting it's the fried chicken and pork chops. All this does is perpetuate fallacies. Shameful piece of journalism.

    • @ShidaiTaino
      @ShidaiTaino 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tim Watters no it’s the lack of action and motion that doesn’t burn enough calories that come from the carbs. You can eat 10,000 cal in carbs and won’t get fat if your burn 10,000 cals in 24-36 hours
