Lots of Chinese kids I've meet always seems to be positive even if their lives aren't what they want. At an apartment I rented during my first stay in China my neighbor had a 12 year old boy. He would always try to talk to me and learn English. He spoke it quite well although a bit broken. His parents would argue a lot as it was quite loud when they do. He and his sister would go out in the hall way and entertain themselves. Whenever I would ask them if they were okay they would always smile and say. Arguing and talking are the almost the same but only at different volume. 😂 He told me he wanted to be a doctor and last week I saw in his parents social media he graduated from university and on to med school. Makes me sad when I see young kids in America with the world owes me everything attitude
He has a beautiful mind. Emotionally aware at such a young age. He was right, he was not cut out for militarism or bullying. A sensitive type who will be a productive member of society with or without a little extra weight. I see so much of myself in him!
Omg, that kid who gets ignored by his mom made me cry… 😭 He’s still so optimistic. “I’ll see my mom in my dreams tonight, I saw my dad in my dream last night, tomorrow I’ll see my uncle, our souls are connected..”. My little heart just broke… 😭
Would make you wonder. If he had the opportunity for his parents to be more attentive (whether it's their fault or not), would he have overeaten? :/ Overeating seems like an easy way to comfort oneself in the face of mental issues like this. :(
He comforts himself with food. She sets him up for failure acting the way she does. She must be a special kind of stupid putting an insurance company ahead of her own child.
The attitude of that 12y/o boy is seriously inspiring. Saying that while it is disappointing, but not a huge deal while he clearly was super eager to speak to his mother, just shows how mature he is emotionally
fat camp cant help obese kids. It make kids fatter. because sustainable weight loss is not a few points or stages but a lifetime. Losing weight for a while in the slimming camps and then returning to the old way of life only makes fat people fatter and fatter each time. The body will understand that it may be undernourished (when doing a diet in a slimming camp) and will further increase the reserve mechanism to store fat and eat more when food is available. That's why people who lose weight by dieting when they leave the diet will gain excessive weight when they are not on the diet. After many failed diets and regaining weight, obese people will also easily lead to depression, give up and stress will stimulate appetite to relieve sadness and stress. As a result, the patient will fall into a loop: fat => stress => eat => fat => stress ..... To lose weight sustainably, it is necessary to commit to changing the lifestyle forever. That is, never overeat. Don't get too hungry either. Eat at 90% of your body's needs (a little hungry). Find recipes that do have a lot of vegetables and fruits. Limit soft drinks and beer. Find a favorite sport to play. And keep that lifestyle forever.
As a chinese kid who went from skinny to fat I can personally say it’s bad. As a kid you are told to eat more than you can store, my personal experience was with my grandma force feeding me until my stomach hurted. You have the attitude that you have to finish everything they get for you, so you can’t even choose how much you want to eat. Moreover, it’s culturally preffered to eat high calorie foods like rice and greasy vegetables. It’s also viewed as cuteness for a kid being fat, with other elders giving compliments, driving the child’s parent to get the kid even fatter. Then when the kids grow up they’re told to magically get a 6 pack and look asthetic. It’s nothing less than bull sh%t.
I'm Mexican but in our culture you're often told to finish your plate as well, even if you're full. I wish people didn't force their kids to eat more than they want.
@@divinecommerce3912 it's not that easy because when you're a kid you don't always understand that it's not your responsibility to make other people happy and you feel responsible for when your parents or grandparents get angry or are disappointed when you don't finish the plate of food they made for you, when you know how much they talk about the fact that they often didn't have anything to eat growing up. You clearly don't understand.
@@divinecommerce3912 when it comes to kids its not that easy and more a matter of sorrundings. of course aome children rise to the challenge, but in china the elderly actively encourage obesity by pushing to always eat more etc
The exercising should in fact be a fun experience, with people there to support you in your physical struggles. Telling people to not have fun while working out creates repulsion and makes people want to work out less. It's great having people there to cheer you up, so you feel more confident in your abilities and you may keep working out. Making kids hate the experience is the worst effect.
@@bw5187 Kids should be having fun since it's the only time in their lives where they have this much freedom. There are definitely fun ways to burn calories which may require more work on the staff, but each family is paying $5350 USD for 1-2 months at a camp in a country with a lower cost of living and much lower average salary than the US.
Even laughing burns calories! And playing together in games like Hide and seek is a fun way for them to lose weight. I personally don't see the logic of the "don't laugh, don't play" rule. They are kids at the end of the day. I totally agree with you with the hating part. If you despise the process of weight loss, the moment you give up is when you start to gain back all you've lost, even more. I speak from experience (I was the obese kid, now an overweight adult working to be normal).
I weighed 150 kg when I was 17. I hated working out and just mainly stayed home until my cousin forced me to go paddling with him on his boat and I instantly fell in love with it. I've been doing that for 3 years now and am currently 98kg. You can force people to work out but if they don't enjoy it they would just gain that weight back.
I would have mandatory martial arts training 1 hour in every school if I could choose. Its good for mental health, fitness, cardiovascular system, nerves, body motor skills, flexibility, and the brain function
@@johnnymcblaze stones ???? you do realise you cant even get 10 countries in the world that use that measurement right ? lmaooooooooooooo you said real
They summed it up pretty well. This can help fix the issue, but not the root of the issue. They can succesfully learn the value of exercise, discipline and how to take accountability. You can see that even though this is a military style camp, they only want what's best for these children, and that they can actually lose weight in this program. The problem is that they might associate being healthy and active with stressful memories and mental fatigue. Since eating is their outlet, it might even cause them to start binging more.
Where are the nutritionists and the psychologists. No where. These kids are only being tortured, just because they lose the weight doesn’t mean they learned anything. Also country’s themselves are to blame considering how many forever chemicals are in the food produced in China and the US.
My heart broke for that poor boy in the end. I just wanted to hug him. As someone who was raised in a military family, it’s hard for most civilians to understand military culture. These instructors really do have the children’s best interest at heart, but they’re showing their love and wisdom the only way they know how to which is to toughen the kids up military style. Military culture is for adults who have the mental capacity to be toughened up soldiers. Not children who just need love, support, and guidance. And often food is used as an escape from a horrible home life. After the child goes back, they’ll go back to their old lifestyle habits.
Children need DISCIPLINE. Love without authority is for quislings. It's the kind of philosophy that leads to kids having no ability nor drive to take care of themselves or do anything other than follow their moment-to-moment impulses
@@alexiakelley4245 the problem is a lack of consistency. After being pampered for the first however many years of life, those kids are fundamentally un-equipped for that kind of rigorous disciplinary treatment. It feels like a punishment. Then when the 40 days are over, they snap back to old habits, now with an extra dose of resentment over the whole ordeal
I agree that was sad especially how his mom wasn’t calling him back and he didn’t understand why and thought it was just work. He seems like a really good kid though because if his whole attitude and demeanor towards everything. He also only called like twice and said it wasn’t a big deal.
Not to be racist or alike, but I think there's a difference between chinese and westeren millitary minds and camps. I think it's other values that count in camps like these in china, vs USA.
"You are not here to laugh"... great, I bet most of those kids will associate exercise/sports with pressure, drill and bad feelings in their future life.
Americans need to learn that health and happiness are tied and to stop shoving fat acceptance. Obesity shouldn't be praised or condemned. But it NEEDS to be fixed
Yeah but these camps definitely ain't it. You saw that drill instructor who literally just said "everyone will hate you" for being fat, like Jesus man you could have stopped at "your parents are concerned" no need to pray upon the emotional vulnerability of children.
That little boy at the end has the sweetest little heart. He was excited to talk to his mom. He's just a baby. I hate that his mom hung up on him. Broke my heart! These babies only get to be babies for a small amount of time
Being an only child is another thing which adds to that. They don’t share their parents with another sibling so a close 1 on 1 relationship is even harder to leave
Sometimes parents are busy. It's not like his mother will always ignore his calls. Like if you call your mother while her house is on fire and she doesn't answer; no way you can blame it on your mother in that kind of situation.
I think that camp's got it all wrong. Weight loss is an overhaul of mind AND body. And the person has to want it. If it's forced, it becomes traumatic.
People are soft and never herd of disciples in this comment section. And probably never played a single sport. Its great that they are strict so they can start maturing and be a great example of the little ones.
@@WeazelNewsUSA Its a terrible way of running things because these kids will immediately put the weight back on when they get home. Its likely like this for business purposes to bring back the same customers. If these kids want to lose weight they need to change their lifestyle to be sustainable. @@proffesionalvirgin919 You never served in the military, I take it? A shame, many people would benefit greatly from it. You do not understand discipline and how to instill it. These young boys are fat because they eat and play games all day. They need an authority figure who understands how respect is earned and why a little harshness now will save them a hell of a lot of it later. Take puppy training as an example. If your dog poops on the carpet do you change his diet? No you speak harshly, stick his nose by it so he knows why you're mad, and take him outside where he's supposed to do that immediately so he knows where he's supposed to do it from now on. Works the exact same way with children.
As a Chinese person representing as the Chinese community this is very odd in other countries but in China this is how the older generation were taught to do so they will force us to do the same even with punishment . It’s sometimes hard to say, but this is how it works and this is how it will work. There is no mercy, just strict rules that you have to follow. If u don’t listen you will get punished until you do. Physically and Mentally. Other people would say that rude or mean and unfair but that is how it works and I don’t see any changes happening anytime soon since the new generation will learn from the older generations. Rules are strict and other people will never know the torture the younger generation of China children face. This is how it always was. I am also a overweight Chinese and I know the Mental and Physical abuse but we never talk about it since we will always have to respect everyone and everything. I am currently overweight but 10-15 pounds but I am constantly talked about my family throughout cousins and aunts and uncles that I’m very fat. My grandparents never seen a overweight Chinese person in her family and is disappointed. I’m currently trying to lose weight but the struggle is real since they talk about why your even trying because they think it’s weird to change and it’s embarrassing. No matter what you do they will put shame on you. If you do the right thing that will simply ignore you. I guess thing won’t ever change. Maybe, maybe not but they are just trying to care for you and not have you weight jeopardize your health in the near future. Sorry that this is very long but if you gotten this far thank you. And I heard that many people are trying to make being overweight a acceptable lifestyle. I honestly disagree since being overweight does jeopardize your health in the future. I makes you depressed and lazy to do anything in life. Please don’t hate on me but it’s the best for your health if you want to life a happy and prosperous life. Thank you.
i’m so sorry i hope you’re ok. i know it’s culture to respect everyone and the surroundings but your feelings matter too! i hope you’re able to heal! :)
I'm real sorry for your experience. If only both our countries can switch expectations. China needs to loosen up and America needs to tighten up. I can see the younger generation in China has to listen to the older generation whilst the younger generation in America does whatever they want and don't listen to the older generation which is ruining our country.
In 2022 after he got back from the camp he gained more height then he lost so later on people find out that he ate his mom Now he's back in camp has dummy for exercises
You know why they gained the weight back? They are supposed to change their lifestyle and adjust to it slowly and find what works best for themselves. The parents should slowly substitutes some foods to something healthier. It might take longer at first but it’s a permanent results. Going to boot camp for 40 days, overwork themselves exhaustedly then go back home, it doesn’t do anything because they will go back to the way their life was
I don't think that is possible Yes they will still be a couple kg overweight But saying that they will still gain 30kgs right after this camp sounds stupid Not only that the stronger you are make it easier to take exercise and maintain health But also the fear will keep them from being overweight Besides it is the fucking parent's choice to send them to the camp If I were a parent I wouldn't spend 5 thousands euro to send my kid to a concentration camp just for him to lose 5-7 kg
@@joshirby6659 Then people turn around and say "See! Weight loss long term is impossible!" but why WOULDN'T the things that made you fat the first time make you fat a second time? It's not like chicken pox where you can "get over" being overweight and never get it again.
Apparently, the camp didn't teach these children how to resist real world temptations by having healthier alternative foods instead and removing temptations to begin with whenever possible. It also didn't teach them how to handle the peer pressure to over indulge from friends and relatives. The camp needs to do this, too, if it doesn't already.
Exactly. Of course they’re gonna go right back to their previous weight, if not even heavier. But I guess the camp doesn’t profit off of long term success
@@maloumasereel966 There is limited scientific research specifically on the effectiveness of Chinese weight loss camps, but there is evidence that structured weight loss programs in general can be effective for promoting weight loss and improving overall health. In a systematic review and meta-analysis published in the International Journal of Obesity in 2015, researchers found that structured weight loss programs, which included both dietary and physical activity interventions, resulted in greater weight loss than self-directed interventions. The review included studies conducted in various countries, including China. However, it's important to note that the effectiveness of any weight loss program, including those in Chinese weight loss camps, can vary depending on factors such as the individual's motivation, adherence to the program, and overall health status. Additionally, some weight loss camps may use extreme or potentially harmful methods to promote weight loss, so it's important for individuals to carefully research and choose a reputable program with a qualified and experienced staff. Ultimately, the most effective approach to weight loss and weight management is a combination of healthy eating habits, regular physical activity, and a sustainable lifestyle that can be maintained over the long term.
Wow... This has to be the most ineffective training I have ever seen. These kids are here because they need to fundamentally change their habits; they are not delinquents that need to punished. These camps essentially create a negative enforcement loop that drives them to hate exercise and anything associated with weight loss. They themselves admit that the teens can't keep the pounds they loss off, and without proper changes to normal home life, their health will never improve. The "military" style camp is meant to appeal to the parents that are fundamentally misguided. They think that if a harsh camp works for the GaoKao, a harsh camp should also work for losing weight.
Oh, the child at the end just broke my heart. You can tell he is trying to be "grown up " about it but you can tell he really wanted to talk to his mom. I really hope they can have a great outcome when they leave this place. ❤
They're tackling this in the wrong way. Losing weight is about recognizing what types of eating habits are bad and finding ways to make healthier choices that you don't hate. Working them to the bone with exercise might work for a handful but I guarantee it's going to have the opposite effect in many. Losing weight is mostly about changing your diet, while exercise is meant for other health benefits
@@andyd3447 You're not wrong. But I'm saying that these camps are approaching the problem in the wrong way. They should be teaching the kids and their parents how to make smarter food decisions that they don't have to suffer through, rather than pushing the kids to their physical limits. Fitness and health don't have to be hell. This type of environment isn't setting them up for long term success

Fat camps are just another way to make money from the obesity crisis. Exercise isn't a great way to lose weight unless it's coupled with the much more important regime of healthy eating. The fast food companies should recognise the damage they are doing and be accountable. It's all down to our food choices combined with advertising and peer pressure.
The problem is not the fast food. The problem is people not being able to regulate their diets properly. If you have a balanced diet then there is nothing wrong with eating fast food a few times a year. Healthy eating doesn't mean that you have to cut out sweets and not so healthy comfort foods from your life, healthy eating should be balanced. You are not going to get fat if at the end of the week you reward yourself with some ice cream or cookies or if you eat fast food once a month.
@@thegamingwolf5612 There are studies that show how addicting and accessible fast food is. While it is ultimately your choice, there are many factors making you want the junk food more. In my opinion, I think they should be taxed like cigarettes.
@@leidelend5021 I don't rly like the idea of taxing stuff like fast food tbh, because unlike cigarettes there's little inherently unhealthy about it, the issue is self-control and everyone's metabolisms are different. i used to eat a lot as a teen. i wasn’t overweight or anything but i was rounder. i think being forced to finish everything on your plate when someone prepares your plate for you as a kid is definite part of it. i got older and ate less because of stress but as a result my appetite decreased drastically as well. i also started eating in plates used for side dishes because i could fill them up without worrying about putting too much food. if i’m still hungry after i finish it, i just go for seconds. i listen to my body. we need to teach children to listen to their bodies too. no “finish your food, you’re wasting it.” if you as a parent want your child to finish the plate of food you served them, serve them less. clearly they can’t eat as much as you expect. wasting food isn’t good but put measures in place to ensure that it doesn’t happen. if your kid wants more food, they’ll tell you.
As a girl born and raised in China, I swear it us painful to be a “fat” people. I’ve been considering as fat since I was young, even though my bmi was about 24 at time, which is really healthy. The standard weight of a girl is usually about 110lbs, otherwise people call you fat, which I think is crazy.
I used to live in China as a teacher. My Chinese coworkers were always complaining that they needed to lose weight. I’m 5 ft 4 and 120 lbs and wear an XS or S. These women complaining were all skinnier than me. It was wild.

These boot camps won’t work and we already have research about this because of the study on The Biggest Loser. I’m not suprised that the boy gained all the weight back the first time, it’s in line with the study. These camps are really missing the mental health factor to the issue. You needed to approach the obesity problem from multiple areas. Restriction is a big no for weight loss, again, because you just gain it back. There needs to be obesity focused dietitians, mental health professionals working with whoever is setting up the exercise program. This is the minimum. The negative reinforcement of these camps guarantee gaining back the weight eventually.
I agree completely! They just go back to their old environments, and get fatter than ever before. They just repeat the same mistakes we already know of (globally). I think part of what these camps should also train is to educate them how our bodys work, how to set up new habits, et c.
When are they being taught about healthy eating, the cause of their weight and how to change their way of life in the long term. One boy had been to this camp before and obviously learnt nothing as he regained the weight immediately. This is so not the way to overcome the weight problems of these children.
I agree that the parents should take some responsibility, but most of these young people are old enough to start taking responsibility for themselves as it's not only what they eat at home but all the fast food they are buying for themselves.
You don’t the pressure in their society. To much competition the kids suffer from depression and issues and food is their way of comfort. Boomers can not understand what is like you study and work hard and still can’t make it because in their time that’s how it worked but nowadays no matter how much you study hard or work hard you will still end up minimum wage overwork office job from 9 to 6 and get sunday and 5 days holiday a year

Stay away from fried foods especially vegetable & canola oil. Just switch to olive oil. I had the same problem I steam, boil and use only olive oil for healthy fats. Cook at home. Portions, make them smaller. American portions are huge. Your stomach is the size if your 2 fists.
It’s good that you noticed quickly what the cause of the weight gain was. For losing it- it’s about 80% your diet and 20% exercise. Exactly. Send your kid to a fat camp for 40 days. He comes back just before the Chinese New Year and within a month, he put 20KG, or 44lbs back on. Should slap the parents.
There is a similar camp but in the US for kids with bad behavior or dropouts so that they can get their GED. It is military based, usually with Army, or otherwise, running everything. By the end, the kids were able to better function in the roles that they were given. HOWEVER, after graduation, almost all of the kids fall right back into their old behaviors because they go back to the same environment. The kids in this video will fall to the exact same fate because they do not stay at this camp forever, and hardly any will go into the Chinese military. This program was doomed to fail because it started with incompetence from the top and was ordered on downward.
It's like the drug user who goes through rehab and then relapses because he goes back to the same situation at home and hangs out with his old crowd. I think the focus needs to be on lifestyle and empowerment to keep the healthy habits. The kids should be there 2 months and be able to rest on alternate days, receive classroom education about fitness and get a good dose of positivity towards the end. That way they'll get enough rest to focus on the educational aspect. Kids need at least 10 hours sleep a night and more if they're in training.
The translation of some lines makes the drill instructors seem meaner than they actually are. Like around 9:21, D.I. said “return to formation.” Not “Get out of my sight.”
Damn ya'll wasn't kidding about the kid at the end. I wasn't expecting to tear up lol. The other side of this story is the insane work hours. Parents work so much the grandparents raise them. China even beats South Korea's OECD stats on work hours.

No one likes preachers unless they individually follow them, most preachers are mentally ill people on the streets without jobs, not only is it an immense waste of time since it never convinces anyone but it actively harms the image of your religion. Also telling people they are going to burn in hell is only going to convince children, an adult who has not grown up with the fear of hell implanted into them by their parents or pastor is not going to reconsider there atheism because 'Jesusislord' said they are going to burn for eternity. You need to change your whole approach if you want to get ahead of the slow decline of christianity worldwide! I am not religious anymore but when i was around 13 the imam at the mosque i had to attend would mostly talk about positive subjects, he told them how for good behaviour in this life they would benefit in the next with whatever they wanted, that seemed to be work on these kids far better than telling them maggots are going to eat their burning body so i think itd be even more effective on adults, everyone loves a wish fulfilment fantasy. Tldr- maybe try a different approach if you want actual success instead of being the main character in your own holy war like most people whose religiosity damn near dictates their whole life.
I'd adopt that last kid. He's adorable. I hope they are also teaching these kids about healthy food choices or the weight loss is for nothing and they will just gain it back again.
As usual the Chinese think bull dozing through a problem and forcing kids to lose weight this fast. As in America, England, Africa and other countries, the problem starts with the PARENTS. Reschool the parents before working on the kids and GET RID OF THE FAST FOOD.
At least they're trying to do something. The US hides its true obesity rates opting instead to publish whatever residents are willing to admit. That's better? Over there, the root of the problem lies with China's policy limiting children and herding younger adults to work in unaffordable cities. This steered parents and grandparents to pamper, spoil, and overfeed particularly the boys who are expected as adults to care for their aging parents. China has been experiencing the same phenomenon as seen in western countries and elsewhere when parents and/or grandparents baby children while they're growing up. Boys become insecure, dysfunctional, and feminine. Girls become insecure, dysfunctional, and masculine. Their obesity rates are far lower because the vast majority still walk a lot every day.
I taught Chinese kids online for four years. I had one student who struggled with learning and he was very overweight. I felt so bad for him because I knew the shame it is in China. I asked him once if he liked school and he said no. 😢. I'm sure he was stigmatized. It may not even have been his diet but some kids have glandular issues. I also know that the kids are fiends for western foods like kfc and McDonald's which are now all over china. The kids would talk about going there all the time , getting sodas with meals etc. When the kids are fed this regularly, and some of the kids I taught were , because of very busy schedules and busy parents, I'm sure this doesn't help the health issue either
When I was a 15yo, 55-60kg was considered fat for 14-16 year olds and I had to be that fat girl in school. Now when I see pick up my niece from school I saw that the fat kid was like 100kg, and my 55kg niece is considered average.. and it honestly blew my mind how perception of weight change overtime while our bodies still work the same. Both shame culture and acceptance culture are toxic and it's hard to find the balance as parents. And this is another reason why the possibility of marriage and kids is scary.
Whoah... My friend was literally at one of these camps about a week ago (they're a teen btw) they went there because they wanted to feel more confident and more in shape, and yes, it was pretty brutal and very, very exhausting, but she also made some friends along the way which is great
@Jesusislord-hd7feokay but if jesus’s words is the real gospel then he doesn’t need you bothering people on a weight loss video. your time would be better spent working at a charity of some kind and giving to those who need it. youtube comments will not convert people, only real action will.
this all stems from the family's poor attitude to health. This is idiotic yoyo dieting with zero real lifestyle changes. The parents just allow him to gorge himself after the camp and thats pretty much useless.
Interesting thing is, a long time ago in China, being fat was considered lucky or virtuous. This is because during a time when everyone was pretty much poor and starving if you were overweight then you were considered to be wealthy and blessed because it meant that you were eating well. Guess that's not the case, anymore ...
Im a teen, was small my entire life until I got super stressed, anxious and turned to food as a coping skill. I went from 115ibs to 168ibs. In July, I got a personal trainer, and I hated it (especially after the first three sessions), but my mom is super supportive. I went 3 times a week, and eventually when I felt the burn I would tell myself "burn=progress" and that I want to be healthier, feel good about myself. Today weighed in at about 130ibs. I feel good after working out, and im happy that im making progress, and people around me say they see the difference. I can even tell I'm happier, and being big taught me other stuff that I needed to work on about my mentality about my body. I know I can reach my goal weight, and I have all the proper resources to, there's no excuse for me and I can't wait. Edit: Today i weighed in at 122.6
I hope these kids learn to change their lifestyle and improve upon their dietary habits. One of the kids returning to the camps is actually indicative of the fact that their needs to be some teachings regarding healthy food habits and exercise.
Agreed. The issue is, those are kids. Even if they wanted to change their dietary habits, they only have limited control over their diet since they are dependent on their parents. The fact that they need to go to the camps mean that their parents likely didn't provide them with healthy food nor healthy habits. So the parents need to change their habits as well.
What a lovely young man that last boy is going to become. I hope his self esteem won't be too damaged along the way as he seems like a very gentle soul.🌻
yeah they dont tackle the problem at its roots, it just makes the kids hate exercising more. But this time although they force the kids into the camp, which is a textbook example of the chinese government controlling its citizens, i think the motive behind it isn't so bad. Even though the atmosphere isn't very friendly, at the end of the day some of the kids there will change for the better and try to continue a healthy (though probably not as strict) lifestyle, while the rest end up eating more when they get out and gaining back the weight they lost.
the fact that you relate this to chinese government controlling citizens is fucking hilarious. it's a fat camp, not a holocaust...also you can find these camps everywhere around the world bahahhahah i have no idea what it has to do with the chinese government but say whatever you want bro
I think that is just an overall theme to whatever related to South Asia From the education system to this, they aren't that different Plus saying that they will just gain back their weight is just obscure, keep in mind most of the kid here ARE actually want to lose weight, they don't want to live like that nor do they think that they are fine They will put up weight, and end up being overweight, but saying that they will just return to the same stage without knowing to stop just by the sheer amount of fear is kinda wrong
"But this time although they force the kids into the camp, which is a textbook example of the chinese government controlling its citizens" ... No, it's a textbook example of Chinese parents controlling their children, which itself is a textbook example of outdated parenting ideas from the last generation being applied to people who really have no goddamn clue how to confront the modernity they were thrust into. There is nothing in this documentary indicating that the government forced this. This is a moral panic by regular people. The people cannot get out of responsibility for this one by blaming the government. We have this exact same thing here in the west too; just not as commonly.
I need to go to this kind of camp. Wish they made it for adults. I am not overweight but I need this kind of discipline to make myself workout and get stronger.
the kid at the end is such a sweetheart. Protect that kid at all costs! He deserves all the happiness in the world. The root cause of the problem is MORE important! Since this is a business these people are not doing that so that people keep coming back , the ones who eat for emotional or mental health reasons. Its so sad.
Why? China seems like it would be very likely to me. For a long time Chinese people mostly lived in the countryside doing hard labour work like farming. They weren’t rich and didn’t have lots of unhealthy food. Then suddenly in recent times there was a drastic change in the lifestyle. People started moving to cities and doing more desk jobs. High pressure on kids to do well in school has them sitting at desks for most of the day studying. The internet came incentivising people to sit more at their computer even after school and work to play games. Cheap fast food brought unhealthy but yummy food to be more accessible to lower classes. They had these changes in all countries but China had them happen very fast. They were not able to adapt over multiple generations.
Do NOT eat the food from western fast food restaurants. So many in the u.s. (I'm American), and raising our kids, hardly ever went to fast foods. Keep with our old traditions......fresh vegetables, protein, and nothing is as good as home made.
u kinda blame the parents too though, they go to fat camp, lose weight then come home to moms and granny's who over feed em. then they gain it all back. the parents gotta be consistent and continue the habits they've been taught else they just wasting their money. chinese kids are waaay too babied by parents, even into teen years. I have literally seen them pull a big kid on a scooter to school in the morning and hand feed it a steamed bun all before 8am.
The problem here is not fast food. The problem here is overeating unhealthy food and not exercising. If you overeat and sit on your behind all day, you can get fat on any kind of food including "traditional" Chinese food and some aspects of "traditional" Chinese food such as instant noodles which is what Chinese people grab most often while in a hurry are very high in fat and cholesterol. The very method of deep-frying in Chinese cooking itself is very unhealthy. There were fat people in China before fast food was introduced to China. And on the other hand, there are healthy fast food items too. Mcdonald's, bowing to pressure from nutrition advocates, publishes a chart of calorie count for every single food item that they sell on their menu and they publish their ingredients so people can be more aware when they order. So before they order, why don't they consult the chart and choose healthier fast food items with lower calories? And also in every single sandwich, hamburger, pizza slice, there are lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and green peppers that are very healthy. If you order food items with these ingredients more often even when you order fast food, you wouldn't have a problem with obesity at all.
@@kumapark2105 HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Not all, but around 10% of restaurants. That's still significant and alarming. He Dongping is a professor from Wuhan Polytechnic University, many news outlet has him as a source. (I can't find his research paper on that)
Fast food is definitely a big contributor. It provides cheap and quick access to high calorie meals that don't make you feel full. Everything about fast food is designed in a way to make you keep coming back for more and more. Fast food generally has a lot of added calories from oil and sugar, which your body can easily become addicted to. If you were to cook similar foods at home, you could easily have twice the volume for the same amount of calories.
@@tinmetal2329 The key is overeating and not exercising. If you overeat and not exercise, you will get fat regardless the food that you eat. One of my relatives grew up in China eating purely traditional Chinese food during the time when there was absolutely no fast food. He had major childhood obesity and battled cardiovascular diseases all his life. He even exercised during his childhood and adulthood because there were not that many electronic screens during his life. Everybody is blaming fast food because it's an easy excuse. Trust me fast food is not the culprit. If tomorrow, all of the fast-food restaurants disappeared from China, there would still be obesity in all ages of the population.
If the grandparents are spoiling the kids, THEY need to be re-educated. If this does not happen, the kids will return and be right back to Square One in no time because they will be at the mercy of grandparents, who they venerate and who they are therefore hardly likely to defy, and who will be functioning as enablers and as 'feeders'. This is a sickly issue and needs to be addressed properly. You will not do it by forcing the kids to lose weight and sending them straight back to a toxic environment!
"i'm willing to spend a lot of money on him" sir, it's not just money and camps, it's the example you set for him. You cant expect your child to eat healthily if you don't do that as a family.
That kid at the end was so sweet, broke my heart his mother ignored his call, but his outlook is so supportive.
He is just wonderful

Omg, that kid who gets ignored by his mom made me cry… 😭

fat camp cant help obese kids.
@@messivsronaldostudio4643 I starved to death reading your post because it was so long. Now what?

Also, they are supposed to learn that physical activity is good for them, but their punishments are... well, physical activity

This is communism in a nutshell.
If there's a problem create some sort of military camp for it.
yeah i also feel like this is just a money making scheme. why not tackle fast food or whatever issues they have with their parents.
@@lazur188 I think it should be maybe like a camp maybe with your parents so they can lose weight together with them and actually have a fun time
Criticizing the Chinese government??? I think your social credit score just dipped…
What about the corona virus?
Oh, the child at the end just broke my heart. You can tell he is trying to be "grown up " about it but you can tell he really wanted to talk to his mom. I really hope they can have a great outcome when they leave this place. ❤
They're tackling this in the wrong way. Losing weight is about recognizing what types of eating habits are bad and finding ways to make healthier choices that you don't hate. Working them to the bone with exercise might work for a handful but I guarantee it's going to have the opposite effect in many. Losing weight is mostly about changing your diet, while exercise is meant for other health benefits
They are KIDS. They dont decide what they eat the parents do. This is a parental issue but the kids are being punished for it.
@@tinmetal2329 Absolutely but this isnt about solving the problem (as they claim) its about putting a bandaid on the problem. As we see they have many returning children which means more money for the program. In my opinion its abuse by both the program and the parents.
@@andyd3447 I mean I don't know if it's intentional by the people who run the program or not. A lot of people are misguided about how weight loss works, that's why you see a lot of fad diets pop up and gain popularity. I'm sure at least some of the instructors believe that their methods work because it worked for them.
@@tinmetal2329 Work for.....children? You do realize that children have no power over what they eat right? They dont buy the food the parents do. If a child is obese its 100% the parents fault.
So it's "all down" to THREE things then is it? So if you got rid of the peer pressure and advertising but kept the eating badly, you'd lose weight?
I just love how everyone is always blaming fast food no its not their fault its your fault you decide to go their they are not forcing you
The problem is not the fast food.
Bc it's China different solutions can work there compared to the west, I'd prefer if they just taxed overweight people higher or banned them from certain places as a deterrent.

@Jesusislord-hd7fe wrong
@Jesusislord-hd7fe the Vatican could not even translate Mathew but here you are thinking you know your bible lol!!
i used to eat a lot as a teen. i wasn’t overweight or anything but i was rounder. i think being forced to finish everything on your plate when someone prepares your plate for you as a kid is definite part of it.
i got older and ate less because of stress but as a result my appetite decreased drastically as well.
i also started eating in plates used for side dishes because i could fill them up without worrying about putting too much food. if i’m still hungry after i finish it, i just go for seconds. i listen to my body.
we need to teach children to listen to their bodies too. no “finish your food, you’re wasting it.” if you as a parent want your child to finish the plate of food you served them, serve them less. clearly they can’t eat as much as you expect. wasting food isn’t good but put measures in place to ensure that it doesn’t happen. if your kid wants more food, they’ll tell you.
needed to do more cardio i was lean and strong as a kid and i could out eat most adults
As a girl born and raised in China, I swear it us painful to be a “fat” people. I’ve been considering as fat since I was young, even though my bmi was about 24 at time, which is really healthy. this is shameful. forcing isn’t the way to go. i was once a fat kid and what happened to me was health issues. i had a massive tumour the size of nearly a WHOLE FOOTBALL 😭 then i lost weight. i lost even more after my relationship with my body changed. these kids need therapy and love.
I really hope you didn’t spend more than 5 minutes writing this 🤨
I agree completely! They just go back to their old environments, and get fatter than ever before. They just repeat the same mistakes we already know of (globally). I think part of what these camps should also train is to educate them how our bodys work, how to set up new habits, et c.
Its not a mental health issue its a parental issue. You eat what your parents give you.
When are they being taught about healthy eating, the cause of their weight and how to change their way of life in the long term. One boy had been to this camp before and obviously learnt nothing as he regained the weight immediately. This is so not the way to overcome the weight problems of these children.
Parents are 100% responsible for how their children eat because it's not the children filling the cupboards with food.
Boomers can not understand what is like you study and work hard and still can’t make it because in their time that’s how it worked but nowadays no matter how much you study hard or work hard you will still end up minimum wage overwork office job from 9 to 6 and get sunday and 5 days holiday a year
@@suziejames7510 It's not just the fast food, but also their families' food culture. Coz many regions in China cook VERY greasy and heavy food daily, and that contributes to their obesity and diabetes. But my parents are from another region called Hunan and the dishes there are extremely greasy, and that's probably why so many ppl there have obesity and diabetes. At around 9 min in, the lead coach disciplining the boy who laughed, the transportations were a bit off.
He didn't say "or else we'll hate you". No, it wasn't harsh like that! He had given a good inspirational speach.
Coach was teaching the boy how to be respectful and gain respect. If he's always clowning around, and grows up to be a disrespectful guy, then people in society would take him as a joke, he may even be hated in society.
It was a good speach.
I am in America, when Door dash became popular, I lived off fast food and restaurants. I was ordering twice a day until I realized my clothes didn't fit anymore, and I grew fat pockets on my body where I never had fat before. I have been dieting for a year now,and can't get rid of the fat pockets, so depressing, I never want to eat like that again!
What sorts of food are you currently eating? Well done on getting this far. Have you tried a low carb and high fat diet? It will allow your body to burn your fat stores and is also good for keeping your sugar levels in check.
By diet, I don’t mean a temporary fad diet, but a permanent lifestyle change. You should stick to eating less processed foods, avoid the bad oils & include healthy fats. I like videos from a TH-camr named Bobby who goes over foods in Costco and other grocery stores. Exercise can be whatever you will be likely to stick to. Also remember it can take about three months (or more) of doing something new to turn it into a habit.
Move to a place where you don't have to use a car to go to work/shopping/meet friends :3
Doying exercises helps a lot, if you dont have time or money for the gym, running is a very good thing to do, start just jogging if you can take it, and go little by little exercising more.

Just forcing kids to lose weight fast is horrible. They need to learn to like exercise and healthy foods. 90 percent of the struggle is mental.
It's sad but it's also very good for these kids. It's not all about loosing weight but teaching them discipline and self respect. It's really not teaching them how to lose weight or keep it off.

1978 China: we want to be like the US.
2023 China: not in this way.
@We Wuz Waaagh!! ! Why haven't they been doing such already?
Absolutely my thoughts.
Thanks

That's right
🙌🙌🙌👏👏👏
The parents aren't there, did you not watch the video?

Agreed. The issue is, those are kids. Even if they wanted to change their dietary habits, they only have limited control over their diet since they are dependent on their parents. yeah they dont tackle the problem at its roots, it just makes the kids hate exercising more.

Its so sad.
@Jesusislord-hd7feJesus is that you?
Never imagined china of all countries would have a wide-scale obesity problem.
That boy at the end though😂...'Yesterday I saw my dad in a dream, today it's my mothers turn and tomorrow will be my uncle'😂
he is so cute! and his little caterpillar toy
That instructor has one of the most ridiculous jawline I’ve ever seen 😂😂😂
If everyone had the mentality of the last kid we would all have our dreams accomplished in no time
He comforts himself with food because his family ignores him.
I teared up for the last kid.
He is just the sweetest bundle of Joy. 💜
@Jesusislord-hd7fewhat..
@Jesusislord-hd7feChinese people aren’t Christian, I mean some are but it’s not really related to the video

8:54 HE LOOKS LIKE HES ABOUT TO LAUGH IM STRESSING FOR HIM
The little boy at the end was so sweet - what a beautiful soul!
Do NOT eat the food from western fast food restaurants. So many in the u.s. (I'm American), and raising our kids, hardly ever went to fast foods. Keep with our old traditions......fresh vegetables, protein, and nothing is as good as home made.
Its not western fast food it is also the native fast food restaurants here in greece there are more gyro restaurants than mc donalts
u kinda blame the parents too though, they go to fat camp, lose weight then come home to moms and granny's who over feed em. then they gain it all back. the parents gotta be consistent and continue the habits they've been taught else they just wasting their money. chinese kids are waaay too babied by parents, even into teen years. I have literally seen them pull a big kid on a scooter to school in the morning and hand feed it a steamed bun all before 8am.
There are getting fatter here in France as well. They eat tons of processed sugary and fried food and it shows.
Yes well 99.99% of people now eat fried food in a lake of grease
In America we need to adopt this attitude
I hope they also get information about healthy eating. Also, can’t take someone like this from 0-100 just like that.
The kid at 8:43 was struggling not to laugh XDD as soon as he left he started to smile haha
The boy at the end made me cry, hes so positive let me hug;-;
Include the sewer oils. But that's a topic for another day.
@@the_allucinator Thinking every person in China eats sewer oil is incredibly ignorant.
My want is that every person can be at their healthiest I don't think anyone should be spit on and I want every person to show love to people.
"i'm willing to spend a lot of money on him" sir, it's not just money and camps, it's the example you set for him. You cant expect your child to eat healthily if you don't do that as a family.
Agreed dad needs to do a camp too
The last kid made me tear up. He is so positive and mentally strong/sweet 😭😭
