The client was a smoker, had 4 dogs, kept the computer on the floor, and had a dog bed right next to the tower. I took an air compressor to the fans and non of them would even turn.
Wow. Just... wow. I've done some bad systems in my day, usually 10-15 year old systems that've never been opened in their lives and have multiple blocked heat sinks. My crown jewel is the 20 year old file server I serviced. Dust bunnies across the entire room for literal days as I found my way around that system. But the machine you just described... in all my years of fixing computers, I've never gotten one THAT bad.
I doubt this will ever reach, but we did recently get an old tower to recycle. It's an atx tower from Gateway that came with Windows 98. DM me if you'd like and i could work out shipping it from Wisconsin.

Soft tubing in home watercooling rigs is pretty awesome. It simple, quick, and allows you to make changes without taking it all apart. I leave my long run from the CPU to the front radiator a bit long to allow me easy access the memory and a few other maintenance reasons. I know it doesn't look exactly the best but it servers its purpose. On top of everything else I'm pretty much the only person that sees my rig.
The PC with the dust in the radiator reminded me of this: I should have taken pictures of my PowerEdge when I found it on the street... It looked like the previous owner ran their server in a kitchen while still using the kitchen as normal... The first thing I did after taking it home was taking it apart and wash every part of the case and the fans because the dust inside it had formed a crust.

I just had my 16th birthday and I’ve been putting all my money towards my pc for the last 3 years. I think it would be really cool to do a teenager edition to these videos since we’re usually on a tighter budget than adults but have learned to make the most of our money
There is a problem to that theory. Not saying you specifically at all, but MOST kids these days have setups that make my R9-3950 look like it’s one of the FX setups from 10 years ago because these kids order it all with Mommy and Daddy’s credit card!
From what I've seen on other channels, you don't want the headache of your request... All it takes is one hard-working kid with a better system than "most" for seemingly the whole world going bananas, slamming out entitlement and jealousy-laden bickering and "shaming" the kids while having no understanding of their situation... It's truly disheartening. Sadly, that's the state the world's in these days; people more prone to disrespect than appreciate anything they don't understand... But good on you Austinn, for knowing good money management skills as well as having the drive and determination to be where you're at with your goals & wants. 👍
Posiris not sure on the exact amount but I currently have a 2060ko ultra, Intel core i5 8400, 16 gigs memory, 1 tb hard drive (and a 250gig ssd for Windows), a 700w power supply, and a decent motherboard I forgot the name.
I built my brother's setup on an Alex desk. At first I was like "oh cool, I can stuff all the cable in the cable management bar, and don't go through the hassle I went through for my own setup !" Then I realised that the setup would be centered, with the monitor excatcly in the middle of the desk, where the slit hole is for the cables to come out... And also that the PC sits half on the desk, and half on the little door that close the thing : If I want to acces the cables, I have to move the screen and the PC. That was not easy to cram everything in without it looking like garbage, but I achieved it, and honestly, once it is done, no need to think about it again... ... until you upgrade something. My brother had a 60Hz screen, anf wanted to go 144Hz. Fine, I mean why didn't he have one already? I let him pick one up online... He chose the cheapest "good" monitor with ajustable height and stuff, a LG panel. I overlooked the fact that the powersupply is not embedded into the monitor, but is an external powerbrick. So, I can't just swap the monitors keeping the same power cable, so I need to remove that cable, therefore moving the PC, etc a fking mess. And then I realised the powerbrick doesn't fit on the powerstrip to allow me to close the fucking door, I had to search for a freakin' power extention to be able to fit it, there is easily 2 to 2.5m of useless cable in that cable management compartment now. Morality : Use the Alex only for laptop setups

Also he said “sell your FX system it’s a decade old.” Meanwhile a Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 is slower then a FX4300 in most multithreaded workloads. Hey now, I'm still running FX processors in my homelab. They work great for running a few k8s workloads and my plex server. I bought this stuff before Ryzen existed and Intel was out of my price range. I really don’t understand how so many guys are okay with these kinds of messes. I miss the old pizza box desktop cases, where we used it as a monitor stand :)
@Da Mighty Shabba There are hundreds of TH-cam Videos showing you why it's a relatively bad idea to try and game on a workstation CPU (and more importantly mainboard). Watch some of those before you make your decision. Also, out of the about 10000 new games coming out each year, only 6 (maybe 7 next year) are capable of really using more than 4 threads, so ... Before you spend money, read some benchmarking articles and really figure out which CPU can give you the most performance per $. Or get something close to a 3700X because that's what the next generation of XBOX & PS4 will use, so it's a pretty safe bet for the next decade.
I’m still rocking an 8350 and dual 970’s, all on custom water!!! Runs everything well enough that I play, at high enough graphics and FPS, why build a new system? I don’t spend $300/yr on all the latest games and try to keep up with the Jones’, so I don’t need top tier hardware. I think most of the tech-tubers have become spoiled a bit with all the access they have to hardware (freebies or income to buy outright), that they forget you don’t need to play on ultra settings to enjoy a game!

I was building computers for years. Ended up taking 15 years "off"(just had an old XP desktop and at the time a reasonably good laptop) so once I got back into building. I had no problem building it but what I was used to was IDE cables and graphic cards were powered by the PCIe slot(so no cables to worry about internally). I don't know how I ended up watching J2C(4 or 5 years back), but that was when I realized that NOW cases have space behind the MB for cabling. My first 2 builds worked, but looked messy. One was for my Brother-in-Law(he still uses it) the other was my personal build. Well, once I started watching it sent me into some what of a tail spin. I "had" to rework all the cables in my on rig(BiL is still working with the spaghetti wiring, but there's no window so he can't see it). I've since built 3 new personal rigs(although I probably need another few before I've got cable management down) and have been doing decent on cable mgmt. Appriciate You, Kyle and Paul giving some idea what can be done.

I built my brother's setup on an Alex desk. At first I was like "oh cool, I can stuff all the cable in the cable management bar, and don't go through the hassle I went through for my own setup !"
Then I realised that the setup would be centered, with the monitor excatcly in the middle of the desk, where the slit hole is for the cables to come out...

Jay: "whatever you need for your build, buy it twice as much"
Me: 3000series ... oof
I got the same case as the dude at 17:34 and glad to report my fans DO NOT look like that. The case itself has very good airflow so don't know how that much "dust" got onto those radiators & fans especially since the case comes with 4 different fans out the factory. SMH.
I've been a PC enthusiast and owner since early 1990s, and I'll never get the need/fascination with how a PC looks. I always put mine next to the desk out of view, I like it for what it does, not what it looks like. Some were very good looking, some weren't, but I never got this either way. I miss the old pizza box desktop cases, where we used it as a monitor stand :)
6:23 I'm running FX-8350 and GTX970 still doing ok with games =)
Yes, but you are not doing ok with Jay. And isn't that what really counts?
Same but 960
Same - 8350 OC'ed to 4.5GHz with a GTX 1070 keeps my games maxed at 1080p 60Hz (monitor refresh rate).
I took your advice and am finally ditching my FX-9590 system, and moving to 10900K. Excited to magically get 40FPS more in games with my SLI 1080's just from getting off of FX.
6:20 "Turn a trick" Best shit I heard from Jay lmao
Jay: "Stop Using FX!
Me: *Cries in fx 6100*
Pc parts are stupid expensive where i live, cant upgrade. i even use a stock FM2 Cooler
Hello brother
Just updated my fx 9590 about a year ago. You are absolutely right. Through the whole thing away and start new.
fx 8350 still runs pretty well a good gpu from that time. Also for cable managment for cases from that time just use a rotary tool to make the neccsary mods to the case.
3:21 Impressive that he has eight sticks of RAM.
I have the Enthoo Pro 2 because of your vid about it. I don't even have a second system in it (yet) but I love it
"Hey, nice toes, bro." XD I lost it.
Same
Jay: STOP USING FX
Me: "crying in hot tears because my fx 6300 make my room hot af"
I feel you men, I had a fx-6300 until June and yeah they run hot as fuck.
I had a 6300 until last night the swap dropped room temps by like 10 degrees
@@RaceboyYT So true 😂
@@RaceboyYT I'm waiting to buy a whole new setup, I live in Brazil, here the prices wasn't great before covid, now, they're fucking ABUSIVE

Appriciate You, Kyle and Paul giving some idea what can be done.
everyone in the video being ashamed of their 500 dollar pcs and me over here with a 60 dollar hp laptop crying
👍
first off most $500 pcs are trash for gaming. Second of all $60?
@@andrewbelmonte-russo721 its a 1000 and a tad pesos laptop my guy so yeah around 60 dollars
"that's Human Skin". No they didn't get snapped back after endgame and the pc was left on.
He probably doubled the PC as a goblin cage and left it in there for so long that it just melted to the radiator
No FX? How dare you! My FX is part of the first system I ever built back in 2012. It might not have a place in my main rig forever - but it will always have a place in my heart!
Hey, nice Toes BRO... WTF?😆😂
😂
I do have nice toes...
Hi.................................................................................................................................
Jay: finds the 8900 lacking.
Me: still using a 4700.....
Upgrade already.
@@GodofLovers 4790k is still about the perfomance of a modern quad core like 3100 or 10100F when overclocked
7700k here. No reason to upgrade.
@@angelic3276 yea that was my last build, and it wasn't enough for homeworks or other Modern VR titles. Plus with next gen coming this year. That CPU will not be relevant anymore. Unless you like playing on medium or low. It's not good enough for me. I upgraded my CPU first and kept the same GPU for a little bit, and with the that i7 I had to go on low settings with half life alyx. With the new CPU I got I was able to do high settings without changing the GPU. It's not a good CPU anymore if you play on high and or ultra. And you want more than 60 fps.
I think it was a 8400, no way is he going to say a 8900 is lacking. And I'm still on a 2600K.
These build pictures make me feel like I'm already ahead of the curve after redoing my cable management in my Thermaltake Versa 21. Opinion is that it has poor cable management, but this definitely reaffirms that cable management is 90% on the user.
Just watched before this vid Steve at GN saying his personal rig is still an FX lmao just funny timing lol
Next vid suggestion: Rigs that look cleaner and more expensive than they actually are.
