  • Vic Fangio : Top 5 Reasons That Makes His Defense So Special
    #vicfangio #miamidolphins #vicfangiodefense
In this video, learn what makes a Vic Fangio defense so special. Learn how he puts his players in the best positions to succeed, and how they use their athleticism to create turnovers.
Now that it's official and that Vic Fangio will indeed be the new defensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins
I felt I should take the time and answer some of the questions I've be en getting about why Fangio is such a big deal.
As you have probably heard, Fangio will be the NFL’s highest-paid defensive coordinator at a reported $.5 Million per year.
That's a lot of dead presidents for a coordinator.
So what makes Fangio worth that kind of money?
Here's 5 reasons Fangio might be worth that kind of money.
    1. Fangio’s defense focuses on limiting explosive plays by playing heavy zone coverage and tricking teams into running the ball when it looks advantageous but really isn’t.
    2. Fangio’s defenses don’t blitz a lot either. His Denver defenses never finished higher than 13th in the NFL in blitz rate, according to Sports Info Solutions.
    3. The idea is to limit explosive passing plays, force teams to run the football and then win with four pass rushers up front.
Time for Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips to feast.
    4. Fangio drives offenses crazy by utilizing a lot of post-snap movement.
This is a heavy contrast to Miami’s defense under Josh Boyer, which lived in man coverage, blitzed excessively and rarely rotated safeties post-snap.
5.Boyer’s defense wanted to overwhelm opposing offenses with sheer pressure.
Fangio’s defense wants to outsmart opposing offenses with schemes.
It's very hard to put Fangio's defensive schemes into a short video for most fans to understand.
But here's a quick breakdown on what you can expect to see:
Fangio's arrival in Miami should mean plenty of personnel and scheme changes.
The Dolphins committed hard to their previous defensive style, so the transformation won’t happen overnight.
Fangio has proven without a doubt that his ability to scheme is a differentiator between his defenses and other defenses.
This past season it often looked like teams figured out quickly that Miami was vulnerable to the and dunk.
Hard to believe that in the pre-season all the pundits laughed at Tua Tagovailoa and only considered him a and dunker.
I guess the and dunk is now a viable offensive strategy. Go figure!
    But I digress…
Miami’s blitz-happy approach under Josh Boyer was an exploitable defense.
It put the injured Miami Dolphins secondary in bad positions.
Obviously, guys like Jevon Holland and Xavien Howard are probably really pumped to play under Vic Fangio's defensive disguises and schemes.
You may be wondering as earlier I said Vic Fangio might be worth the $4.5 million dollars the Dolphins are paying him.
That's because we'll have to see. We're all optimistic, but the proof will need to be seen quickly.
Why? Because the 2023 Dolphins are facing one of the toughest schedules in the league.

McDaniel does need to do better with in game decisions. When your averaging 7yds a carry in the run game don't abandon it. McDaniel can solely focus on the offense while Fangs runs that tenacious D.

Hi Barry. Great hire. His philosophy reminds me of Bud Wilkinson’s (Oklahoma) back in the day. Get at least 3 first downs each time you have the ball and never give up a play more than 20 yards. With McDaniel and Fangio, they can replicate this formula. Tom S

Double B, I am pumped about our new guru hiring. I believe that this will move our defense to the next level, of course, injuries play a big role in this. Saying that he will definitely get the best from every guy on the field. However, look for him to upgrade our linebackers. You need at least one-speed demon middle linebacker in his schemes.

Barry, you didn't cover the Matt Applebaum firing? You played Center/Oline in the high school & college level. Your take on how the Dolphins Oline did as a unit(letter grade) then individual grades for each Oline player? Also, who should the Dolphins try to hire for Oline coach? I don't know if I should be worried or not, with all the amount of coaches, the Dolphins let go. While different, that is the issue Flores had. Zero consistency i keeping coaches
I was okay with the Matt Applebaum hiring, however, his Boston College Oline unit, were not very good. Heck, we even passed on trying to sign UDFA Alec Lindstrom, who played Center for Boston College. A HUGE position of need for the Dolphins. Was Alec Lindstrom really that bad, or is coaching below average/does not develop Oline guys?

    • @barrycunninghamshow
      @barrycunninghamshow  ปีที่แล้ว +2

Wasn't sure a lot of people cared about it. We're just offensive lineman. We don't make the headlines. I'm hearing Mike Munchak and he'd be a solid pick up for sure. As for development, OL guys these days are system guys. I'd look for guys coming out who played in a similar system. Find high scoring guys who may not be big-board material, but who understand this kind of system. With no real draft picks, that's what I'd look for.

    • @robertjason6885
      @robertjason6885 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The OLine has been a disaster through 3 GMs. Munchak helped fix that problem with the Titans. Of course, he’s a HOFer who has been there, done that.

Hey Barry, I sure hope Vic Fangio learns his lesson from this past week Super Bowl 57 that the "motion Jet sweep" Wip or mess executed on both opposite side exposed the CB & safety's communication coverage. Was it because the players was learning his defense less than 2 weeks prior to the Super Bowl? Perhaps, but I hope he fix the problem by letting the defensive player keep their eyes on the motion jet sweep until the ball hikes moving forward because Kansas City is in the AFC conference.

Statistically Fangio is one of the best defensive minds ever, trying to diagnose his style is a waste of time. He'll play every offense differently depending on their skill set, similar to another great you might of heard of, Bill Belichick.
Hope he's involved in some important decisions like getting rid of under or non performing dead weight. I'll mention 2 that I blame Flores for, Byron Jones needs to go, over rated and over paid, and can't stay healthy, never did like the signing and the money we gave him. Noah Igbinoghene, maybe one of the worst 2nd round picks ever, a total head scratcher pick, never developed, thanks Flores !

I don't understand why Chris Grier felt there was a need to change philosophy . I thought Josh Boyer's zone play calling was the problem not the blitz concept . The Dolphins played more zone under Boyer than Flores and the majority of the times when the Dolphins were in zone coverage under Boyer teams moved the sticks . Now the Dolphins have Mr. "Zone Coverage" himself Vic Fangio , the last time he faced the Bills and Josh Allen his defense gave up 48 points , shit , Patrick Mahomes averaged nearly 40 points against Fangio defense , so I don't understand all the excitement over the guy.
