    Thanks for this video. My husband just harvested so many grapes that I made jelly, but we have too many jars already and was looking for something else to do with the grapes. I am glad I found your video, and this is what I'll do tonight. Thanks again!

    Thank you for this video! I wanted to know the correct process for freezing which I’m about to do next here. I’m about to wash them now.

    I keep reading that grapes need to be refrigerated if not eaten the same day. But when I go to the produce stand they have them just sitting in bags on the table daily without any refrigeration? Are they safe to buy and eat? I can't really find an answer I figured you would know since you grow them?

      We usually put or store our grape harvest in the refrigerator. We notice that they last a lot longer in the refrigerator. Don't know exactly how long they can safely last without refrigeration, we noticed that the temperature of the room/house does affects the ripening process of the grapes like most fruits, the hotter it is, the grapes rot a lot faster.

    Hi, thank you for the video. I recently started juicing & found that it cost a lot to be going out for more fruit because some would spoil from being in the fridge too long. This method will save some money now. Do any of the fruit get freezer burn in the bags? If so is there anything I can do to prevent that as not all fruit are as robust as others.

      We use Ziploc freezer bags to store our grapes in the freezer. We do try to remove as much air when we pack it to avoid freezer burns. If you are concern about freezer burns, highly effective tool is using FoodSaver vacuum sealer, which eliminates more air in the bag and preserve the food inside longer and so much more effectively.

      Food Saver Vacuum Sealer is great and fruit stays good twice as long in the Food Saver bags!! You can take out only as much air as you want with the newer versions!!

    What I want to know is how long are the grapes good in regular freezer bags? I use Food Saver it will keep twice as long...Also if they are dry like that can you take the air out of the grapes as to keep them from sticking to each other in the freezer?? As I've learned the hard way other fruits do stick together after vaccum sealing😱

    • @Homeycircle
      @Homeycircle  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To avoid sticking together, we first freeze the grapes in one-layer using a flat tray, once they hardened that is when we bag them using the freezer bags, great for months. Ideally, Food Saver vacuum sealer would be better because they seal and removes air so much better and last longer, just like freezing meat. We have FoodSaver vacuum sealer but we are yet to use it on the grapes for freezing, we usually use it for meats to avoid freezer burn, works really well.

      I use mine for everything sandwich meat with those great new bags,cheese,fruits meats you name it!! I just wondered Olof you took all the air out would they freeze together LOL Thought you had used it on the grapes If you take the air out of strawberries etc. They stick together after time..Evens after being frozen on a tray first 12 hrs..So was just wondering Thx for sharing take care Shey

      You have a point there, they might have a tendency to stick together if using vacuum sealer even of you freeze on a flat tray first because they press hard against each other, and the fruits (strawberries or grapes) can get deformed. Thank you for the tip!

      I was told to leave them open for 5-10 minutes on the counter than they will Come apart per Food Saver!! So I guess that will work with grapes too No they don't mishaps if froze in a tray first..Just FYI take care Shey

    Does the firmness change after thawing it?

    • @Homeycircle
      @Homeycircle  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We never tried thawing the frozen grapes, we usually just add the frozen grapes directly to our smoothie recipes.

    Nice homesteading example ! You may want to protect your investment with a power generator .. just in case of prolonged mains failure.

    They are good grapes. But mash the grapes then freeze the mashed grape! It saves lots of space in the freezer. Do you know how much running a freezer costs you in a year? Look it up!

      I know what you mean about running out of freezer space :-) we are running out of freezer space, really, its jammed packed with all kinds of fruit harvest - peaches, nectarines, grapes, plums .. but the way we freeze the grapes, its okay with us, works best for making smoothies, easy to grab and we have much control with how much we use at one time, size is much more manageable by the blender, anything larger might be too harsh on the blenders motor for making smoothies.
