That's the ONLY way to know what you're actually getting. My G4 would range between 30 and 40mpg. I'd get 40 on the highway doing the speed limit with the A/C off and myself and my wife in the car with no luggage. When we drove from NJ to SC on a 700 mile road trip we consistently got 35mpg with 2 adults, 2 kids in the back and a trunk loaded to the hilt with A/C on. @extralock1045 I don't know how much difference driving the hatchback to the sedan would be in terms of fuel economy. I can tell you nobody in NJ drives 55mph on any freeway or highway. Jesus when I do 65mph I'm getting passed on both sides at 80mph. I try to keep it at 70mph as a happy medium on roads like the Turnpike and other roads that are 55-65mph speed limit. So there's that. I kept up with maintenance, even changing my oil a little earlier at 3k-4k miles and I did my CVT service myself at 30k miles. Maybe I'm calculating something wrong. Maybe they printed the wrong size tank in the owner's manual. But based on what I calculated depending on the driving conditions I'd get 30-40mpg. As far as the accident, I was on the Garden State Parkway heading north to go see Scotty Kilmer in Rhode Island, he was going to do one of his segments on the car. I was in the right lane doing 70mph with cruise on. In that section of the Garden State Parkway there's only a right lane and a left lane. The male deer came out so fast I didn't even see what I hit, happened in a fraction of a second. I just saw the windshield crack and the airbags deployed. I had no idea what I hit, I thought something had fallen from the sky. When I got out I saw the buck, I had launched him over the left lane and into the grassy median. So whoever was behind me must've had quite the show when they saw Rudolph flying in the air. The fact the car was so low and going so fast it acted like a shovel and scooped him up, I didn't hit it head on, more like front right and diagonally across the hood and roof of the car. Had hit it head on maybe I would have seen it before I hit it, it was like 50% I ran into him and 50% he ran into me. My right hand was bleeding from 100 little cuts, my guess was from the airbag, it went off like a fireworks show, the smoke was terrible I had to get out because it was hard to breathe. I also had some minor bumps/bruising where my right knee/leg hit the console even though the knee airbag also deployed. The key in the ignition was bent at a 90° angle, a lot of the buttons inside popped out of the cutouts in the dashboard. The radio popped out a little, the seats didn't move but most everything on the dashboard shifted a little.
@@justacinnamonbun8658 Holy smokes! That must have been a huge crash to cause that much damage on the inside! I am glad you where okay! Was there any intrusion? What car did you get next? Watched all your videos. Thanks for the review. Going to buy one to replace my 2010 Honda Fit that has 201,00 miles. Honda works perfect but has been discontinued in the U S A. And giving to my teenage son. I drive primarily in the city and the gas mileage appears to be great without messing around with hybrid batteries. Plus I probably drive even slower than you 😂
I literally cannot remember the last time I passed the car unless on the interstate when somebody is merging I usually pass them in the travel Lane because they haven't gained any speed yet. When I was in Florida somebody who is buying ceramic molds from me had a Honda Fit with something 410,000 miles with minimal issues. It's pretty impressive! I have videos of me driving the car around. You can see how slow I drive. :-)
I find the Sonata a pretty fast car, faster than the Mitsubishi. The Sonata is a comfortable car, just make sure you change the timing belt on it, as if it breaks, it will literally kill the engine, forever, no saving it. The Sonata doesn't have body roll either, so it corners better. Now, on hills, it can be slower than the Mitsubishi because of the lack of gears, which I find funny.
@@extralock1045 I sold it with 310k on it and the TB was done at 250k. It did handle quite well though, I had to replace the front stabilizer links and rear rotors and pads. It was a decent car for what I paid for it and what I got out of it.
To quiet your rather noisy engine (Yes Im an owner too, 2023 ES hatchback) go with 5w - 20 royal purple engine oil (amazon has best prices and availability) that juice will quiet the noisy tappet noise at idle and will have the engine sit almost still once you pour in your 3 quarts. The other way to enliven and make it more durable than it already is is to change the tranny oil (cvt oil) at every 20K including dropping the pan and filters, cleaning the magnets. Use AMSOIL CVT FLUID, its actually far superior to the factory fill (which is more or less mineral oil with some dye added) and is a true synthetic. After changing mine, I can detect smoother take offs, much less slippage when changing ratios (not gears in a cvt) and will last under duress much longer than other CVT oils out there. These 2 upgrades will give you the Mirage you always wanted, something that will last, not shake itself apart and a transmission you can trust all the way to 300K!
You are right about the oil. You can also use 5W30 if I'm not mistaken. My friend also is doing that. He noticed a lot quieter engine. I do agree with the transmission. Change it every 20,000 or 30,000 mi. Or earlier if you drive in the mountains and get it hot. I tend to use Kirkland engine oil and Mitsubishi transmission oil. It is better to get the amsoil but I don't want to worry about hurting the warranty so I just use OEM for now. :-)
What are you using to track your economy @ 1:02? Looks like a huge step up from what I do now which is just putting it into the notes app using a shortcut on my phone lol
I use a website called Ecomodder, other eco car people also input their MPG into there. All I input is miles drove on tank, gallons I put in, and optional what I did on the tank, and optional the price of gas. It does the math for me, but I can do the math my self. Put the miles in the calculator, and divide it by the gallons you used.
The engine has enough power, so it doesn't destroy itself, & it transmission this is why the engine is durable but I'm ahead of the game, got the car 2 weeks now first thing i did was gorilla glues 2 button style powerful neo megnets x2 on the oil drain plug and added 2x neo megnets underneath the transmission oil pan where the stock megnets are no need for breaking in the car or anything drives buttery smooth I also have a spray bottle full of WD40 and spray all 4 wheel welds and under the belly of the engine & every nut and bolt too, took of the spare tire for better braking and acceleration which is also easier on the transmission might as well.
I really think you should still go over and change the oil early. It isn't much and it might very well help extended your engines of life. Oil is cheaper than an engine.
@@extralock1045 I already saw a few tear down of the engine transmission on 400k^ car on wear inside the engine is the side skirts of the piston not really wear its just under power for that kind of wear which is fine for not being on too hard the transmission; ill change the oil when the dip stick looks contaminated; Costco 0W20 synthetic oil is optional for this car
@@Vietturtle2023 Why risk getting sludge buildup, or extra wear and needing a new engine sooner? Cars are very expensive, a $20 oil change every 3,750 miles isn't.
@extralock1045 this is the only thing this car ask for is regular oil changes & its a happy camper so simply; you should get ramps to do videos under the car is best, I try jacking up underneath the front sub frame to bring both wheels up but it's far back my jack can't reach, so I was saying to lift up the car w/ 2 ramps is much easyer for oil changes and regular inspections. Ramp suggestions; th-cam.com/video/cM6rVfUnYP8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=gGQ65DHIk_7cDQ1l
Just change the transmission fluid every 25,000 to 30,000 mi. Change the engine oil every roughly 4,000 miles. And it should be good. How fast do you drive? Do you go up and down a bunch of hills fast?
I watched this because I wanted to remind myself about how much I hate this car. I drove the mirage as a rental for a few weeks. However watching this video actually made me realize how efficient these cars are and looking deeper into it, how cheap there’s cars are too. Kind of made me like this car a little especially after seeing you fit a fucking fridge in side of it some how. Good video
Thanks! A lot of people hate these cars, and I don't see why. They are very solid cars. I've put 30,500 miles on it, just got back from a 2,500 mile road trip to northern Nevada, and it did great! These cars are very efficient, and reliable. (: Why did you dislike it when you had it as a rental?
The first impression of Mirage is poor, especially when you drive bigger & beefer car daily. After 2 miles I wanted to get it back. However, I was soon amazed by its mpg, quite smooth & surefooted suspension and turning circle. It's simply, honest, A-to-B, bread & butter vehicle.
This car will drive for many, many years until it falls apart. They dont make cars like this any more... Smart buy. I had 4 Mitsubishi cars in my 30 years driving and only issues i had was with huge number of dead head light bulbs. One Lancer had over 500000 milles before it decompsed to the point we couldnt save it and it was runing on CNG that very much eats engine bcs of lack of lubrucation from gas..
We had a Ford F-150 on compressed and natural gas. But the fuel tank was out of date and new ones with extremely expensive so we junked it. We didn't even get to fill it up once in our time of owning it. We had it for about a year just sitting in the driveway. It ran like a clock. Even if these cars fall apart just fix the small problems as they come and it should continue to look brand new or feel brand new. Whatever wears out just put new in. :-)

Awesome! I also recommend looking for an older Geo Metro, or Toyota Echo, or Toyota Yaris, or a Toyota Corolla LE Eco, this is great too! Just some other options to look out for that are reliable, that get awesome MPG.. Note, the Geo might be hard to get parts for.

Doing 95 mi an hour in any car is dangerous. I wouldn't say this is any more dangerous than let's say a Ford f-350. I mean it's more dangerous for everyone around you if you're taking a large vehicle and going fast. But at least for you it's not good either way you crash.
I drive 2013 Yaris Hybrid (mostly), 2018 Honda Fit/Jazz CVT & 2021 Mirage/Space Star manual. Honda is the best car overall. However, Mitsubishi turned out much better than I expected. It's the funniest of three to drive and suprisingly its bodyshell is more rigid (has better torsional stiffness) than Yaris. And I can confirm 57 mpg results, achieved quite easy. +62 mpg is possible going gently 1800-2500 rpm, max 55 mph.
What is the best about the Honda? I heard they are great but they seem similar. Also how do you like the Yaris? What MPG do you get out of it? I didn't know the Yaris came in a hybrid version, that's pretty neat!
@@extralock1045 Honda feels more noble & refined. Has the best (of these three) soundproofing, rust protection (however, not perfect yet), interior quality, overall fit & finish. Gives some features available on larger models. Even the automatic high beam works perfectly fine, with no few-sec delay after oncoming vehicle.
@@extralock1045 Oh, indeed... North American Yaris (XP130) had 1.5-litre VVT-i petrol only. I've the average 63 mpg of 108,000 miles with (European) hybrid Yaris. The best full tank average was 70 mpg (usually 60-67 mpg). Surprisingly, Mirage/Space Star is just 3-10 mpg less efficient - with no HV battery, electric motors, even no start-stop system.
I need a pillow in pretty much every car. Maybe I don't know how to adjust the seat correctly. But even in our Cadillac my back gets sore after about an hour. The yellow round pillow is for an armrest. The car doesn't have an arm rest in the base model. But even some of our cars that have arm rests I prefer to use the pillow. It's more comfortable. Plus the smile on the pillow is happy. The seats are pretty comfortable. They are softer than the leather Cadillac seats. These ones are more squishy. After about an hour and a half I might have to reposition because it might get a bit sore. But my bottom is quite bony. I'm only 120 lb at 5'11. So lots of seats are hard. If I was heavier it probably would be a different story.
Why? Roll down Windows manually aren't really any better. They are slightly more reliable but they also add the problem where you can't easily roll the windows down.
Big SUV's aren't really any more practical than a small hatchback. The hatchback is cheaper to drive, easier to drive, and can fit about the same as the SUV. Plus with roof racks, you can load up even more. (Roof racks really hurt the MPG, so leave them off, unless you need them).
Yes, but Fiat is very unreliable, Mini is also less reliable.. So it's best to stay away from them. A better car for an alternative is a used Chevy Bolt if you want a similar used car price to this new Mitsubishi, as the used Bolt's with 40,000 miles sell for the same price as this new car.
If 1 person is cold and the other person is warm, if you make the climate in the car hotter, the warm person will be hot, but the heated seats fixes that.

Hope you had a good Thanksgiving holiday BTW. Stay safe, be careful during rutting season. 😆

Great review! That 0-60 is so hilarious! It's a shame that there's no more 2025 Mirage!
It is a very funny 0-60! I want to do that again, but with 800 LB in the car. That will be fun!
Yes, it's being discontinued sadly.. I wish it wasn't.
You're so funny with that refrigerator I can't believe it's fit
It did! ;p
Oh you have an EF Sonata! I had one for a few years, I sold it this April. They're comfortable cruisers, not fast though.
That is awesome! How many times did you do the timing belt? Did you service the transmission too?
Just a quick note. It is the penny trick not the quarter. You are all good man.
Some places I see it says Penny others say quarter. I'm not sure which. :-)
@@extralock1045 Amsoil is safe and the warranty wont be voided if you use the AMSOIL CVT fluid. So there is noting holding you back now!
Great video!
Thank you! I appreciate it!
Ramp suggestions;

subbed for the fridge bit
LOL, Thanks! It was funny putting the fridge inside the car.
I hope mines last long. Mines is a 2022 and I have to commute 160 miles/day for work.
Just change the transmission fluid every 25,000 to 30,000 mi. Change the engine oil every roughly 4,000 miles. And it should be good.
How fast do you drive? Do you go up and down a bunch of hills fast?
How much is your insurance by the way? Mine is like $700 a month for $25,000 miles a year.
@@extralock1045 You need to shop different insurance companies
@@extralock1045 I'm at 23,640 now. I'm going to get the CVT fluid changed closer to 30. Between 25 - 30. My insurance is $115/mo.
@@extralock1045 do you really pay 700 bucks a month for car insurance? so $8400 a year?
Why did you dislike it when you had it as a rental?
The first impression of Mirage is poor, especially when you drive bigger & beefer car daily. After 2 miles I wanted to get it back. However, I was soon amazed by its mpg, quite smooth & surefooted suspension and turning circle. It's simply, honest, A-to-B, bread & butter vehicle.
Yes! I drive many larger cars regularly, and the Mirage stands out the most to me.. That's why it has 33,000 miles on it already! Lol.
👍👍🙏🙏
We had a Ford F-150 on compressed and natural gas. But the fuel tank was out of date and new ones with extremely expensive so we junked it. We didn't even get to fill it up once in our time of owning it. We had it for about a year just sitting in the driveway. It ran like a clock.
Even if these cars fall apart just fix the small problems as they come and it should continue to look brand new or feel brand new. Whatever wears out just put new in. :-)

Nice car i might purchase one soon so i can save on gas ⛽️ 🙂
Awesome! I also recommend looking for an older Geo Metro, or Toyota Echo, or Toyota Yaris, or a Toyota Corolla LE Eco, this is great too! Just some other options to look out for that are reliable, that get awesome MPG.. Note, the Geo might be hard to get parts for.

I like these cars but an old focus or beetle seems better to me
What is better about them for you? (:
Also look into a Toyota Echo/Yaris. They might be better than a Focus/Beetle.
@@extralock1045 They have better handling than those two, however still overall average. Not as reliable as a toyota(they have average reliability), but their interiors arent as bad as a japanese one. Jack of all trades master of none type situation
With good rotation should get at least 40k out of the tires
Hopefully!
@extralock1045 i rotated mine every 7k on my 23 mirage and just changed my stock ones at 40k
@@extralock1045there are different rates tires.. some go 25k some go 40k and some go 75k.... The stock Mirage tires are rated for 30k... But you can only get that if you are gentle and Mr Lockman is definitely gentle.... However my 21 5 speed was only good for 18k before had to replace... U can guess why 😂. I drive the car hard and still got 35mpg... The Mirage is great beyond belief... In another car it be getting like 12mpg 😂
I saw one of these going down the road at about 95 mph and thought man, if that runs into anything it’s immediate death.
Naturally. But wait... Do you think that going down a road at 95 mph and running into something with a Hummer would end differently?
Doing 95 mi an hour in any car is dangerous. I wouldn't say this is any more dangerous than let's say a Ford f-350. I mean it's more dangerous for everyone around you if you're taking a large vehicle and going fast. But at least for you it's not good either way you crash.
What road are you at? Rides going 95mph and no cops pulling you over?😮😮😮
I drive 2013 Yaris Hybrid (mostly), 2018 Honda Fit/Jazz CVT & 2021 Mirage/Space Star manual.
Why do you need a pillow? Are the seats uncomfortable?
Scaunele sunt foarte confortabile, chiar sunt. Dețin aceasta mașină de o săptămână.
👍

i'd add row down windows
Why? Roll down Windows manually aren't really any better. They are slightly more reliable but they also add the problem where you can't easily roll the windows down.
how the frick did a fridge fit in there. I struggled to fit in a office chair in our CX-9 Crossover. Wut.
Big SUV's aren't really any more practical than a small hatchback. The hatchback is cheaper to drive, easier to drive, and can fit about the same as the SUV. Plus with roof racks, you can load up even more. (Roof racks really hurt the MPG, so leave them off, unless you need them).
size matters
The size of what?
You can buy something like this.. or you can buy a Fiat 500 /Turbo/Abarth for a better cost and look fancy.
@ Mopar or No Car!
You would also need seats that have the heaters in them
@@lastresort1757 yep! That's why I'm going to get the SE seats. (:
who needs heated seats
It's helpful for people who get cold or live in a cold climate. When the car is not warmed up, the seats heat up quicker.
If 1 person is cold and the other person is warm, if you make the climate in the car hotter, the warm person will be hot, but the heated seats fixes that.
