To those complaining about her use of colorful metaphors……. Etta James to this day has the nastiest mouth on stage I’ve ever heard or seen. I couldn’t repeat most of the things she said here even. That being said…… they are clearly doing everything right if that’s the reaction. Keep killing it. This is the type of jazz I want to play and the type of jazz that jazz needs. Hallelujah! I would think, then, that the sep up crew could have set up a canopy for them, where, at least, the canopy could block where the sunshine was coming down from, so they could be more comfortable, and be in, at least partial shade. She, esp. with her light skin, is going to get a sun burn! At that age, tho' I didn't mind being in such heat as I do now. That they're playing out in the heat, give them both loads of credit!! Fantastic musicians - we are fortunate that the stars aligned to get these two together.
Saw DOMi and JD Beck a few years back opening for Chon at Irving Plaza NYC, the experience was utterly surreal and cerebral. Amazing talent in the phrases they play, the rhythms JD slays. Very inspiring. What a time to be alive.
I feel these two players actually let their individuality talk, for such young players this is rare, they already have a creative voice, not just their feel, but its also in the arranging.

What a great performance of "Smile"… idk if it's the sound of playing open air, the reverb of the surroundings… it feels also like the swing in this reflects the hot weather…

These two are amazing, she's one of the most exciting keyboard player to come along in some time. He's an incredible drummer my only tiny complaint is he plays very light I'd love to hear him lay into it more. Sometimes he gets lost in the mix with such light touch
Anyone know what ride jd is playing here? It's crashable but has nice dry stick definition without too much wash. Knowing him, I'm sure there's tape on it. But still, is it a k custom?
With music like this, I'm extremely impressed without experiencing pleasure. Like I totally agree the music is brilliant and yet I do not even slightly enjoy the sound of it.

All very jazzy in advanced ways while still remaining catchy enough for me to enjoy it. I like jazzy melodies and harmonies I like difficult to anticipate music but I want there to be a melody I can grasp like parts of the song I can comprehend enough to sing along with.
@@dw4270 all artists i enjoy as well. Maybe you should give their album a listen, i feel like there are melodic songs like SMILE or take a chance. But in the end it‘s just about personal taste.

@@dw4270 I recommend giving bands like Vulfpeck and Snarky Puppy a try, as well as Cory Wong. I can see where you're coming from with these two, though I personally think it varies a little with some of their tracks.
