Don’t forget the people who make the instruments too and the people who make the drumsticks and the people who make the microphones and the people who make the electricity too. Shame on you for not mentioning them, you must not think they are important.
I am a 66 year old keyboardist, who has seen it all, done it all blah blah....then I discovered the following people. JD and Domi, Moonchild, Knower and Snarky Puppy. This was about three years ago. It was definitely life altering. In my day my heroes were Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Jan Hammer and Joe Zawinul. Mahavishnu Orch, Return to Forever and they all inspired me to play. And improve. Then I reached a level that was up there in the heavens where the only people to play with were dithering around with three chords, rock and roll and sh*t like that. So I took my skills into education. Then three years ago Moonchild came to TH-cam. I was blown away with Amber's voice and the skills that the band demonstrated. This lead to all the rest of the gang. They are all part of the same scene. Fortunately. They are spawning with each other, creating technically magnificent material, with small and large ensembles. In return for their glorious music I have started practicing again. Working against metronomes, and composing too for a mate who plays sax. Wild jazz, stupid time sigs. And it's all down to today's youth. I'm truly inspired. The only thing I regret is not being 50 years younger to get a piano lesson from Domi.
Check out Jacob Collier, we're lucky to live during the lifetime of a certified genius.... your man Herbie once asked him, "what the hell was that chord?" His ability to use not just Perfect Pitch, but microtonal perfect pitch, combined with vocal arrangements where he usually has more than 300 tracks (he does walkthroughs of his work in Logic Pro), the ability to reharmonize in unbelievable ways, massive keyboard chops along with amazing abilities on other instruments... The reason JD is so chill is he is a student of Sput's, has done a good many gigs with Mononeon, he knows all these guys. He's done studio work for several years at this point.
Spud and his band Ghost Note have done several of these sessions with different drummers sitting in. Larnel Luis is now the drummer in Snarky Puppy. Spud now does Ghost Note. The keyboardist sitting in plays with JD Beck normally as a duo.

JD Beck and Domi are insanely talented. It's just crazy. You should check out Louis Cole. He is a multi-instrumentalist but he's got plenty of his drum work on youtube. Another dude with a style that is his own.

The best comment I've ever heard regarding Mononeon, was along the lines of "When the acid kicks in and your grandma's quilt picks up a bass and starts playing Weather Report"

Agree completely about the snare. I was looking for triggers throughout the video and didn't see any. Then I saw the little splash sitting on the head and it started to make sense.

The cymbal's on the drums reminds me of trying to get that sampled drum sound…because often times when sampling drums like snare or kicks u’d have a cymbal or high hat on it…that’s become such a staple in the sound of music that creative acoustic players do this type of thing…super cool
The 'electronic' sound from the snare was already pointed out by the splash on the snare. Did anybody else notice the dude playing bass left handed but it's a right handed bass upside down?
Have you ever thought about reacting to your subs music? Like, have a reaction playlist to smaller local sized bands and giving your reactions/opinion on how the drummer performed during the song. Maybe once a week just pick out one of your subs songs and give a reaction to it.
@@AndrewRooneyDrums I think that is a question for all of us to answer. I would make a short little vlog and ask all of us what you could do to implement your fans bands into your channel. The only idea that I have come up with is a possible name which could be Fan Submission's Sundays.
I wonder if they actually wrote that performance into music notes/sheets first? I bet that drummer must be touched his first kits around below 5yo. How many times did he practice for that performance or he did that just like spontaneous jamming? Damn that was, too many notes to hit. Wth.. superb!!!
Know zero about any instrument, but just discovered Yusef Dayes, who often plays with Tom Misch.... Different styles for both of these aforementioned guys, but still I like them so much better than, as someone else said - the styles of drummers of an " earlier era", esp. the rock drummers, who seem more all over the place, with more accented beats, etc.... I never liked rock, anyway... We are so fortunate to experience those who keep the genre of jazz alive, and evolving into a freshly combined "amalgamation" of newer styles of music.
Man I've been looking your videos the last 2 weeks and I love it Big up from Switzerland 👌 I think you could love to react to a Damien Schmitt video he is a pretty skilled french drummer. Using the word "funky" for him leads you to your hunger haha

🙌
DALLAS, TX! PERIOD! 💯
For real I'm still learning and expanding my horizons. This guy is brilliant, what genre does this fall under?
I'd call it Jazz/Funk-HipHop
Highest level improv cats :)
@@AndrewRooneyDrums Live Drum'n'Bass ?:-)
The 'electronic' sound from the snare was already pointed out by the splash on the snare. Did anybody else notice the dude playing bass left handed but it's a right handed bass upside down?
Yes Nik I saw that :) !!!
Have you ever thought about reacting to your subs music? Like, have a reaction playlist to smaller local sized bands and giving your reactions/opinion on how the drummer performed during the song. Maybe once a week just pick out one of your subs songs and give a reaction to it.
I actually have!
I love that idea. How could I implement that though!?
@@AndrewRooneyDrums I think that is a question for all of us to answer. I would make a short little vlog and ask all of us what you could do to implement your fans bands into your channel. The only idea that I have come up with is a possible name which could be Fan Submission's Sundays.
Hey, another youger guy (though not as young) with cymbals on drumheads: Louis Cole!!! Check him out! Also plays open-handed.
Thank you Julien! 🙏
JD & DOMi!!
That was an amazing intro ...
I wonder if they actually wrote that performance into music notes/sheets first? I bet that drummer must be touched his first kits around below 5yo. How many times did he practice for that performance or he did that just like spontaneous jamming? Damn that was, too many notes to hit. Wth.. superb!!!
Improvised madness! Obvs pre arranged horn and general structure 👌🥁💯
The weird thing is that it’s easier at a slightly faster BPM. I do that when I write a song and am laying down the drum tracks.
Aric Improta reaction next Night Verses/fever 333! specifically Copper Wasp. intro alone will get you riled up
I’ll get to it Frank! 💪
Aric Improta leaves one's jaw dropped damn near permanently esp the Copper Wasp playthrough absolute beast of an artist
some DnB Drummers put a little cymbal on toms or snare.. sounds awesome ;)
Yes!
Wait I just realized this sounds like the song they did on their album with Mac damarco.
Watch the Matt Greiner set from the same series. Really good!
Man I've been looking your videos the last 2 weeks and I love it
Big up from Switzerland 👌
I think you could love to react to a Damien Schmitt video he is a pretty skilled french drummer. Using the word "funky" for him leads you to your hunger haha
Thanks Jonathan!
I couldn't tell if you were trying to impersonate an American in the beginning or not... nailed it anyway!!!
I don’t know what happened... 😂🤦🏼
Haha
Holy shat on a turtle...that was incredible
Yes Jared!
So inspiring
Never heard of this kid before. Great Player. Reminds me of Jojo Mayer 👌
Totally agree! 🥁💯👍
@@AndrewRooneyDrums thank you, Sir!
Oh and by the way... please do a reaction to "Blake Richardson - Swim to the moon" 😊✌ absolutely mindblowing! Have a nice evening
