I do come back to this because sometimes Matt is less successful at distilling what’s running through him at any given time and this was a good time / topics.

they keep matt from going off the rails while letting him rant out the big picture in medium size bursts, which is very good

In all my years of being subbed to Chapo and pledged to the Patreon, I've never been so disheartened and disappointed by Matt and this group than this podcast. Particularly everything said after 34:30
The idea that podcasts are primarily entertainment is true, but the idea that they're *only* that is ridiculous. Sharing advocacy opportunities which you can out into the world (especially as one of the most subscribed to Patreons of all time) have ramifications you'll never know. Matt shirks advocating for rallies or contacting relevant political figures or ANY actions to enact change. "Change won't come from the online sphere", probably, who knows, but can't you be somewhat influential in the change of status quo? "I can't be a determining factor = I have no power = I won't try" what? Will Menaker interviews union leaders and advocates often. He hasn't given up on advocacy or platforming, despite being "just a podcast." If you're a real Leftist you're advocating if you have anyyyy voice, especially if you have a voice like Matt. Put any strikes, protests, ways to affect change, anything effective in the spotlight. Just riffing on the news and cynically sulking that everything is fucked is so bad. These guys have so much money and influence and they became completely crestfallen/nihilism-pilled because Bernie didn't win. Improvement is still possible bros do not give up

Will has his own approach suitable to his skills and interests. He is more of a journalist. Matt is a philosopher and historian. His work is of great value and he is learning to use his skills to their fullest extent.

He's not wrong though. Change happens in the streets, not through online podcasts and I think he is being realistic in saying so. You wanna enact change? Go join a Labour union or go campaign for someone. Organize with people. Just listening to podcasts isn't gonna do anything.
