I’m enjoying your progress, I have an RD04 which I’m mechanically restoring. More problems than I thought and much more money !!
I’ve replaced the CDI, coils, leads pick ups from the stator, mosfet regulator, starter solenoid. Plugs, leads in fact everything electrical I can change.
Today I’ve started on the wheels, rear bearings, chain and front sprocket, and here I have hit a problem that they all seem to suffer from, a worn output shaft, luckily I have a long experience of manufacturing splines so I’m going to tackle that over the weekend.
Bought a Takasagi front rim from rugged roads and it’s going to Central Wheels in Coleshill for a full rebuild.
It’s a nice project but I dare not tell the wife how much I’ve spent !!
I will watch your progress with interest and if I can offer any help just contact me. Regards Richard.

Hi, thanks for the response, much appreciated. The RD04 is a beautiful bike, well worth the money & time. Central wheel components is where I bought my SM Pro rims. The hubs are currently being acid dipped & painted ready for them to be built. Luckily all my electric parts seem to be ok so fingers crossed I won’t have any problems with that. It’d be nice to see your progress & the finished result. The XRV Facebook group is a good place for parts & advice etc, plus it’s where people will appreciate your work. Hopefully see you on there if you’re not already a member 🙂👍
