    Everytime i watch a video like this one talking about how we should breath i cant help but think on how little we are taught about our bodies growing up. We don't even know how to breath properly! Thank you for helping making up for this shortcoming Great video

    • @scottk1525
      @scottk1525 14 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +3

      In fairness, animals (humans included) shouldn't have to learn how to breathe properly. We breathe that way naturally. The problem is that the modern world and our modern habits, tendencies, and lifestyles are so unnatural, it creates a lot of new functional and structural problems that humans didn't have to deal with for 99.9% of our evolutionary history. The connection between this unnatural lifestyle and the health and structural problems it is creating is something that is only recently starting to be researched and understood.

      I think you'll have a hard time finding posture correction videos that are only worried about "symptoms." Everybody is trying to fix the root cause; it's just that everybody disagrees on what the root cause actually is. Some people think it's muscular, others think it's habitual, others still like Conor here think it's more about breathing. And frankly I don't see any strong evidence one way or the other that any given one of them is the true and only root cause. I think it's more likely that there are multiple factors that need to be addressed.

    I love your philosophy connor! I have a story you might find interesting.
    I have pretty noticeable forward head posture, and have tried a lot of exercises you recommend (breathing to expend the back rib cage, stretching the lats), with little success really.
    However, I also have bilateral condylar resorption, which sets the lower jaw significantly behind the front teeth. My docs have told me that its likely this restricts my airway significantly, as the lower jaw is pushed up against the trachea.
    I have a joint replacement operation tomorrow that should hopefully fix all that! I’m going to keep watch throughout recovery to see if my head posture changes, and revisit your exercises if i have to.
    Your videos got me into PT which I’m super thankful for. Keep killing it 💪

    This issue occurs for me because I have a tied tongue, after so many years I've finally found a good physio that understands this & their explanation to me made perfect sense
    I'm starting rehab now to prepare to have my tied tongue lasered to remove the tie, which then will require more rehab
    Because my tongue hasn't been able to move properly, I have never swallowed properly & thus muscles that support all these actions are being pulled all the time in ways that they don't for people without tied tongues
    Just another thing to put out there for people, if you have a tied tongue, try find someone that is aware of the issues it causes that can help you

  • @priodeboy
    @priodeboy 18 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

    Conor I’m no expert, but I’ve found with my better breathing and more relaxed tongue, my tongue tie is actually diminishing. Not that the tongue tie tissue is gone. I can still see it, but as my tongue relaxes and develops more pressure against my palate naturally upwards, I’m not pushing my tongue forward with me head (which you explained). And I swear this is slowly allowing my tongue tie to go back to normal relaxed facial tissue. I’ve been to a tongue tie clinic and have evidence of where I started a couple years ago. If you’d like, I can get the results, take current measurements, and if there’s any real progress, feel free to use me as an example. I love how you’re giving all this valuable info away
    And the process has been way more complicated than just mewing. I’ve had to develop a real feel to find the tension in my tongue muscles, all the way through my diaphragm to my pelvic floor
    Last edit: activities like bouldering and skating have allowed me to find those mobility limitations due to my poor breathing. I’ve found that doing relaxing breaths to activate the sympathetic nervous system allows me to retrain bad movement patterns. If I go slow enough and breath well, any physical activity has been allowing to reset facial restrictions, but very slowly

    My 22 month old kid have been suffering from colds ever since he started in daycare a year ago. I think he had a week in total where his nose wasn't blocked with snot. He is almost only breathing through his mouth. Any advice? I'm starting to worry.

    How long will It take for my muscles to learn this new way if being? As in how long should I do this exercise daily?
    Also, really great explanation of what is should feel like when back pressed to floor and what to do by digging heels in. I have a weak core. My TMJ Dr believes the only way to get my neck in correct position is by yoga and walking in the water while doing the arm movements of swimming. He believes it's an issue with my muscles being weak. I believe it's from my muscles being tight and also not knowing the correct posture to be in.
    Yes, front of my neck is so tight, it radiates up and my jaw gets sore. I just had tongue tie surgery in Dec 2023 and am really working on my diaphragm breathing.
    I really appreciate this video and your helpful tips. Also, I did the exercise and I want to just stay in that position. How wonderful to get such a deep breath!

    I’m telling yall, YOGA and MEDITATION. Your neck hump will disappear. I used to meditate a whole lot back then, and never had any posture problems . Nowadays it’s different 😂 i haven’t meditated in awhile, now I can barely meditate without fatigue in my neck and back

    There's so much speculation to justify the patterns of "root cause" with no empirical evidence given. Demographics of tongue tie is small, you can rule out accessory muscles with palpation, and the "proper tongue posture" is not supported, and also probably impossible as it requires constant fight against gravity.
