I did this on the CB1000R now I have to do it on the FJR. Hopefully I won't have to buy a new battery tender a I can just keep swapping it around. You always so calm and cool when making a video and still have the ability to laugh at yourself....good qualities to have bud.
Appreciate it. 8-) I can get pretty crazy sometimes...but I seem to only get crazy when I'm at home and no one is around hah. Come to think of it, I was pretty crazy when I worked at the restaurant for a while because I got really comfortable being around my co-workers. However, I watch back my videos sometimes and feel like I'm a little too monotonous with my pitch, but I think it's just that I have a very soft-spoken voice. But overall, my voice doesn't really carry very well haha. Thanks for the kind words.
Yeah I'm not a fan of winter storage either. I haven't been riding lately though, so I just keep the tender on my bike and let it run every now and then and roll it a little bit so it's just not sitting stagnant for too long. I might actually get a ride in this weekend depending on how plans work out.
Great video! Hope you are riding this weekend! It is gorgeous in Winchester. If you make it up this way would love to ride with ya. Be safe and keep the rubber side down.
Appreciate it! I am actually not riding currently, I sold my bike just recently and on the hunt for my next machine. Was just up near Potomac Falls this past weekend looking at a bike but didn't pull the trigger. Looks like I might be up in near Gainsville soon to check out another. If I'm up that way riding, I'll let you know. Appreciate the comment.
SV1000s, Z1000 (1st gen), VFR800 (5th gen), Vtr1000. Bikes like that. Mainly the SV1000 but I'm really picky on condition and price and I've checked Craigslist daily for around VA and closer surrounding areas. The ones that caught my eye sold really quick and the one I checked out ended up being a dud! Hah
I hate that, i had to look high and low for my GSXR. But i got her on accident after doing some work for a friend that couldn't pay me up front and traded me for it. Ever considered a DRZ or supermoto of some kind?
Funn-E-Man Yeah I have actually, just not as a main bike. I want to be able to take road trips if it comes down to it. I would love to have a thumper though for around town kind of fun, most definitely.
Awesome video I've been trying to look for third type of video... No one explains if you can connect the tender on top of these regular wires from the bikes. So I can just connect the tender right on top hug? Leave it hanging lose and when I need to charge just unplug and charge?
Yes you can do that. There might be a slight battery drain so I wouldn't leave the bike sitting for an extended period of time without riding or hooking the battery up to a battery tender. But yes you can just attach that connection on top of the battery posts as long as the screw is tightened down and everything stays connected. Just don't forget something plugged into the USB accessory outlet while the bike is off because that will definitely drain the battery. Make sure to unplug the item from the USB since it'll continue to pull power from the battery unless it's charging the battery like a battery tender. There is a little more complicated way to wire a switchable power plug that would only turn on when the bike turns on, but I didn't go into that with my bike, just did it directly to the battery.
That's nice I had one already installed by the dealer but I pulled it off and set it up for heated gear just cause I couldn't get the proper adapter to use the same harness for my heated stuff. I'm gonna reinstall it though once I move and get myself a place with a garage.
you won't! just a male to female or female to male adapter I just forget which one. for the battery tender then you just gotta replace the fuse there's a video on revzilla that kinda explains how to do.
Triple Demon Oh sweet! I just found the adapter you were talking about. That is badass and makes me kinda happy haha. No need to waste more space underneath my seat
Exactly! gotta save that space for other goodies! btw what tail pack do you have on your bike I want one of the kriega ones but I don't really wanna spend that much on luggage right now and I wanna try to have to carry a backpack all the time.
Triple Demon The tailpack that I usually always have on my bike (and seen in this video) is the Nelson Rigg CL-1060...it actually fits on the passenger section of my motorcycle almost perfectly. I carry my clear face shield in there all the time and I can fit a lot more in there actually. My cameras, maybe a water bottle, and whatever else I want to shove in there for a day ride or whatever. It might even fit jacket liner too if it got warmer out during the day...haven't FULLY tested it yet. I actually just bought Kriega US-20 for road trips because I know I can stuff that bag really full and then strap more luggage to it if I need more space. And plus the bag straps onto the subframe rather securely too, so that was one of the main reason I went with the Kriega...and that it's waterproof and really well made haha. Haven't used it yet as I just got it for myself as a Xmas present, but I plan on hopefully really testing it out whenever I go for a short road trip or whatever during the spring time.
Thanks dude. I've got a few more educational vids that I shot but I haven't been motivated to edit together haha. I think I'll get them up one of these days!
I absolutely hate the square nut/bolt setup on bike batteries.. good idea with the harness.. I have put those on every bike I have owned... now I just need to put one of those USB sockets on. good to see a vid from you!
Oh heck yeah, hate how the nut can just fall out...wish it was fixed to the terminal! The USB socket is definitely useful for when you're out on the bike for those longer days...or traveling. Thank you, it feels good to put out a video. You have inspired me to pump out a video with what you said to me the other day haha.
hey toast dont listen to this guy he is alittle on the not to stable side if you know what i mean only kidding "D" na he is a one of few great guys out here
I love my tail pack. :D It's perfect for little day rides and carrying stuff around town. It basically lives on my bike in case I need to pick up something or whatever.
Guess your one of the many suffering from an unrideable winter? I guess I'm one of the lucky ones! But cool video man I want to get a USB one for my fz 09. Beautiful bike by the way ;) hahah
Gotta love them triples, huh? Haha. I actually could go out and ride right now. There's no snow on the road...it's just the temps have been colder than I would like. We've been lucky so far with not getting any snow. I'm like right on the edge of where there was snow and where there isn't snow. But like I said, I'm just a wimp when it comes to cold weather hah. Might be able to make it out this weekend depending on how the plans work out though.
7drakkar1 Thanks man. I actually need to pick up a new one because the one in this video actually bit the dust. Not sure why it stopped working, but I was going crazy thinking my charging cables were bad when it was really the plug pooped out on me. Right now I've just got my bike hooked up to the battery tender in the garage.
Whatever the problem is; I hope you get it solved. It can be quite frustrating when your bike won't start. I plan on taking mine to a really good mechanic in the spring to have a Complete Check Up so that I won't have to ride with the worries. Best of Luck to You.
Both. Red to positve, black to negative. Just keep in mind, without a switch added to the circuit, anything plugged into the harness will drain the battery even when the bike is turned off. So many sure to unplug anything from the harness adapter when you're not riding the bike or you'll end up with a dead battery.
I love heated gear.. But I draw the line at riding below 35 degrees... Actually should be 40 degrees.. You'll be comfy with heated.. Vest/ gloves / pants liner, or just wear some wind proof pants with some layers.. I also am not fond of leaving that tender on all day.. I don't leave my bike on all day so why leave that on.. I'll do 2hrs every other day.. N sometimes I stagger the days
Nice little tutorial! Just installed this on my sled yesterday, checked this morning...battery is dead. Not very convenient and definitely not a great design if the average person has to disconnect it from the battery every day.
It's not supposed to be designed to be disconnected every day. Sounds like you've got something connected that is pulling power from the battery constantly. The terminal I hooked up to my battery didn't really drain anything even after sitting a couple weeks. You may have a faulty adapter. Some people hook the power directly to the fuse box instead in a spot where it will only receive power when the lights or ignition is turned on. Did you have anything hooked up to the adapter already? Because anything plugged in will draw power from it. I never had anything plugged into the adapter when the bike wasn't on.
I'm not sure, honestly. I kinda think that a battery tender isn't meant to take a dead battery and charge it back up, it's more meant for "top off" and maintain. With that being said, it wouldn't surprise me if it took a full day to charge it up... but probably half a day at least to charge it enough to start. Your best bet is to jump the battery, drive the car around a while to allow the alternator to charge it up, and then slap a battery tender on the battery to top it off and maintain it. Sometimes you just need to buy a new battery if the old one if too old. I've had that a few times, where the battery was just too old and had a dead battery cell or something.
+Ducati NYC Vlog The only bad thing...this one went bad on me. Not sure if moisture got into it or something, but it stopped working and had to be trashed. I have yet to put on a new one on my current bike, but I do already have a battery tender still installed and I could just get the adapter for that.
For my bike? I don't think I'm going to mod my bike...just leave it mostly stock. No bike plans...just new brake pads soon, new chain, and MAAAAYBE a new cam chain tensioner. Mines still just, just a little noisy at first start up.

Good stuff, Toast... Simple straight forward tender install... I need to put one on my bike for winter storage... I'm not a fan of winter storage...
Yeah I'm not a fan of winter storage either. I haven't been riding lately though, so I just keep the tender on my bike and let it run every now and then and roll it a little bit so it's just not sitting stagnant for too long. Nice How To. It's been a while. Can't wait for the warmer weather.
Yeah definitely...I'm ready for warm weather as well. I'm much more comfortable when I'm not shivering while out on the bike. 8-)
Great video! Hope you are riding this weekend! It is gorgeous in Winchester. If you make it up this way would love to ride with ya. Be safe and keep the rubber side down.

What are you in the market for. There was a 07 zx10 on craigslist in winchester.
SV1000s, Z1000 (1st gen), VFR800 (5th gen), Vtr1000. Bikes like that. Yeah I've been tempted with getting heating gear...but I'll definitely need a longer battery bolt to fit all 3 added accessory connections lol.
you won't! just a male to female or female to male adapter I just forget which one. for the battery tender then you just gotta replace the fuse there's a video on revzilla that kinda explains how to do.

aeroliner750 I agree with ya.
Nice tail back man hahah. That battery tender would save heaps of time
I love my tail pack. :D It's perfect for little day rides and carrying stuff around town. It basically lives on my bike in case I need to pick up something or whatever.

Great Video. I have the same Speed Charger hooked up to My Bike in the garage right now.

nice mate, i like vids like this that show you how to stuff to your bike ay. Mate i struggled to check the oil on mine lol.
Hahaha...I appreciate it.
ToastToGo
lol isaw your reply to one of my vids but can't find it. but wiring i am kinda ok at, but when it comes to service of the bike i fail lol
what terminal do you connect negative or positive
Both. Red to positve, black to negative. Just keep in mind, without a switch added to the circuit, anything plugged into the harness will drain the battery even when the bike is turned off. this is so clear, definitely helped a lot of new riders like me. appreciated
Yeah definitely, you are welcome.
Pretty neat! =)
Good "how to" vid, thx for the upload.
Thanks for watchin'!
watched a lot of ur vids, thx man!
You can also use it to plug in a warmer suit. :)
Hah yesss. My friend told me to get some heated gear because he loves his stuff. Tempted to buy heated jacket liner sometime in the future.
Especially since my friend wants me to go on a ride with him on Monday...brrrrr. I'm a wimp.
I love heated gear.. But I draw the line at riding below 35 degrees... Actually should be 40 degrees.. You'll be comfy with heated.. for battery tender junior any idea how many hours to charge a dead car battery (from sitting too long) to be able to start it up?
I'm not sure, honestly. I kinda think that a battery tender isn't meant to take a dead battery and charge it back up, it's more meant for "top off" and maintain. With that being said, it wouldn't surprise me if it took a full day to charge it up... but probably half a day at least to charge it enough to start. sweeet. got the same one - use it for charging my iphone/gps

Does the battery loosing any voltage when this cable is connect it for long time on the battery?
George GR yup apparently it does drain faster. I leave the battery tender hooked up when I'm not riding though
Thanks a lot that what i though
regards
Future mod? Bike plans?
For my bike? I don't think I'm going to mod my bike...just leave it mostly stock. No bike plans...just new brake pads soon, new chain, and MAAAAYBE a new cam chain tensioner. Mines still just, just a little noisy at first start up.
Can u use the battery t3nder outside since I don't have a garage?
You sure can, just might be a good idea to put something over it to protect it from the elements.
Quality vid bro!
I really appreciate it. :)
Yep, cant have enough USB's imo!
I love USB
to make getting the "Nut" easier tighten the bolt into it, put a little hot glue around it to hold it in place.. easy peasy from then on..
Not a bad idea.
Helpful tips. Thanks.
Yes sir!
your bike will have power if your accessories are on the top or bottom. its called conductance.
Yup. I just had resistance on my mind for some reason.
Ah man now i suppose im gonna have to put out a vid too? Ugh =P
Dooo it dooo it dooo it dooo it :D :D :D Anything will do!
Thanks
On my Harley that little nut under is not reachable to hold it up. Good God I fought for two hours. I finally folded a piece of paper towel to raise it up. 🤦😵
Haha I know the pain!!! I used a very skinny flathead screw driver eventually and made sure it didn't touch any other metal surfaces.
