    I just pick one up yesterday and I'm digging it bike pulls hard little faster than I thought it would be

      The bike is surprisingly a torque monster.

      I just got one at 64 years old and I’m hooked. It’s such a pleasure to ride in these Tennessee hills and yes it is fast.

  • @dprider02
    @dprider02 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    One of the coolest things about the motorcycle habit (aside from the actual riding) is that we can switch from one model and/or type of (used) bike to the next relatively cheaply. Loving the big V-twin!

    • @ToastToGo
      @ToastToGo  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      dprider02 The used bike market is beautiful for that. When the bikes have depreciated value enough, you can switch with relatively low financial hit, if any at all if you're really good. I may have made a mistake with this one though, bought it just a little below book value and had to put a lot more money into it than I originally thought. So I might hold onto this bike longer to get my use out of it haha.

    torque for days sounds just about right. Love that thing!! Already appreciating the better wind protection? :)

    • @ToastToGo
      @ToastToGo  10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Schaaf The wind protection is nicer when traveling at higher rates of speed such as on the highway, so yeah, it's nice. I haven't really taken it on a long trip so I haven't fully felt the benefits of the screen yet, but I do notice a difference. I still love my naked bikes though haha. But I would just choose a bike with wind protection for longer stints on the highway.

    I would like to hear more about the bike and it's performance how it picks up what kind of power range it has you know it's cool seeing you drive around but a little bit of information on the bike itself would have been good because that's what I'm looking for

    • @ToastToGo
      @ToastToGo  ปีที่แล้ว

      True, next time I need to make a video talkin about the bike in a "review" respect such as the riding experience and the feel of the bike to better help prospective buyers. Good idea.

      ToastToGo you should, price's in UK are going up on both models. It's one of those moments when you think why o why didn't I keep the SP2, it's the same with my 80s ( second bike owned) Yamaha 2 stroke RD350😥😥. Thanks for responding sir.

    Love the VTR. I have curvy SV650 and the sound really does not sound the same in real life. Loud enough to set off car alarms that is parked on the side of the road. My home town had a guy with a red VTR with twin stubbies, sounded like a V8 with no baffling. Hoping to upgrade to a VTR soon! Safe driving my man

    • @ToastToGo
      @ToastToGo  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Awesome stuff! Thanks for the comment. Yes, these bikes sound mental with some free flowing pipes. I enjoy the curvy SV650 as well, those bikes sound amazing. I currently have a Ducati Monster so I'm a fan of the trellis frame that the curvy sv650 has as well.

    • @gsxrpat6147
      @gsxrpat6147 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      LoL sounds mental and drinks gas like an alcoholic! I really like how the Monster looks like however that is waay too expensive, the SV can be made into a real nice cafe or such but I am keeping it towards original look.
      Have a lovely day my friend! (:

    Dammit! Yours is nicer than mine, Toast. I picked up my '99 in June, and I'm squaring it away now. I will say this, though: The sound an L-twin makes on aftermarket exhausts should be enjoyed by everyone who likes motorcycles. It's just sick.
    I guess I'll start riding my V-Rod again at some point. There's no chance that a a 15-year old $3,000 bike could make me sell my Milwaukee bottom bitch, right?

    • @ToastToGo
      @ToastToGo  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Millbarge01 Exactly. :) My bike looks worse in person, you really have to see it up close to notice the kinda bad condition the paint is in. There are a lot of marks and crappy cover up jobs all over it, but none of that comes out in video (thankfully). I need to do my carbs still and get it running 100%...but right now, it's still quite lovely. And the sound of the L-Twin is so sick with any aftermarket exhaust! I absolutely love it. I got my bike in April, and I've been slacking with getting everything fixed on it. Great bikes...and I'm thinking on picking up an older Ducati Monster as my naked fun bike in the future. I love the Monsters and L-twins. :) AND NAKEDS! The Superhawk is quite a good looking machine for what it is though.

    Fantastic choice, man. I picked up a 97 TL1000S about a year ago and yes... I too had to put quite a bit of money into it. (Mostly due to shady previous owners.) I guess that's the pattern with these older sport-twins.
    The exhaust note definitely has a barbaric yawp to it. Such a great bike, so cheap to purchase and so guilt-free to use every day. Superhawk was my initial choice, but I ran across my TL first. Love that half fairing, too!

    Dude nothing better then the sound of v-twin bike I had the SV650 back a few years ago and it was mean sounding wish I would have never sold it but wanted to experience new things like you said cool stuff TTG!

    • @ToastToGo
      @ToastToGo  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mr. Dirt-Lovin Heck yeah! Quite honestly, I love this bike but it just eats up gas like no tomorrow. That being said, I have my eyes open for possibly getting a naked SV650 if this bike will sell. I'm not too much of a power junkie, so the lighter, better fuel economy, fuel injected SV650 sounds quite awesome to me. But for now, this bike is a riot.

    Hi Toast, so like the bike, I have owned SV650, VFR800vtec ok that's a v4 and an SV1000s loved the V bikes and lots of torque and character. Now I wanted a in line 4 that had the torque so went with a 2006 ZX10r kawasaki and love that too. But agree there is nothing like a good v twin. Only other v twin I want now is a Honda SP2

    • @ToastToGo
      @ToastToGo  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nick Gibbs Very good group of bikes. I'm still inclined to own an sv650 track bike with gsxr suspension...or just a fun econo commuter bike sv650 with gsxr suspension. I was very close to buying the SV1000s instead of this Superhawk, but decided to go cheaper instead. I had a VFR and I agree, The V-engines are nice. If I were to own another i4, it would have to be a liter bike like you did because of the torque.

    How’s the handling compared to the STR? I’m seriously considering the triumph but I also have a huge affinity for the VTR, currently have a Honda magna vf750 but looking for a sports bike I can have fun in

    • @ToastToGo
      @ToastToGo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Street Triple I enjoyed much more. It's lighter, easier for commuting and around town, more comfortable, more technology and newer all-around of course. The Street Triple was much more of a fitting bike for me. The VTR might be a little more leaned over than your VFR, but it also might feel about the same weight wise, and would probably be very familiar technology wise. My VTR had some weird fueling issues.. and that's because it's carbureted. With that being said, the Street Triple was much more dependable to me. But you asked about the handling... the VTR will be a little more comfortable in the corners, but I guess it depends on the year and model Street Triple you'd look at. I had the base model Street Triple so I had to change out the suspension myself to make it more fitting for me, then it felt more confident in the corners. But the Street Triple was more flickable and fun for me. The VTR cornered well, but was heavier to manuever around town and such.

Harley's got a distinctive sound I haven't quite grown attached to yet, but a bike like the XR1200 would be something that might be able to sway me. If I did get a Harley in the future, it'd be something stripped down and simple. I could roll with that. 8-) The bike would have to be anti-chrome though, and that doesn't sound very Harley haha

      @@ToastToGo Me got a Ducati and just recently an XR. Went out with a bunch of buds last week in the foothills of the (what they call here in Pa, ) Mini-Dragon. There was a Ducati, R6, Duke, Ninja, BMW and a VTR Superhawk. Everyone liked my bike. But I gotta say, I was the slowest of the bunch. My bud said to me, "Next time we meet up bring your Ducati" I said, "It doesn't matter if I am on my XR 1200, a Ducati, a Hyabussa or the Kawasaki Ninja H2R, I can't keep up with you guys. But in a way the XR reminded me of my SRT8 Challenger. Not as fast as Camaro in the corners, or as quick as a Mustang in autocross, but every time I bring her out, flocks of people draw near my car, not the others. Same with this XR-1200.

    • @ToastToGo
      @ToastToGo  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The reach to the handlebars is probably pretty comfortable for you as I was a little more stretched out than I personally would have liked since I have shorter arms. As for the foot peg positioning... it's possible that it might be too cramped depending on what you're used to. It does have a more sporty foot peg but you can always get adjustable ones or step-down type pegs to allow more room. But the reach to the handlebars is probably good for you. Hopefully someone can chime in that's your height and can tell you how they feel. It's a decent sized bike but I think you would be find. Definitely not a small motorcycle, just somewhat sporty.

After you've become a confident rider, you'll figure out what bike exactly you want, and you can get your second bike. :) Just get what you want, don't get something too heavy or powerful though.

      OiDirk I'll be back on a naked again sometime, that's a definitive. Just something about a stripped down motorcycle I love. Seeing the muscular engine and some of the mechanics. Something tells me I'll get an older Monster unless I'm feeling crazy and splurge on a nice new Ducati. :D That'd be awesome.

      Yeah a lot of people underestimate these bikes superlite they only way 412 lb dry 116 horsepower mine was modified I think I was pushing around 1:30 horsepower I could smoke anything on this on the River Road or Canyon roads the torque out of the corner was fucking amazing handle just as good as my CBR600 Double R 08 I seriously thought that was the best handling bike until I rode the VTR for a 1000 gosh it handles good especially for being an older bike but I smoked r1's GSXR 1000 ZX10 never got to race a CBR but I'm sure be the same story up to 130 you ain't fucking with that bike hard enough to keep the front in on the ground but if you can do that it's bye-bye time ooo I have fucking blown so many motherfukers mine talking shit about my bike calling it the chicken hawk and then I literally do circles around them Willie pass them back off let them catch up do it again Mean motherfuking bikes............. But here's the fucking problem they only run till 30,000 miles then the timing chain jumps and they're done that's why you don't see any of them anymore they're all blown up...... I bought one I got two thousand miles of fucking fun out of it heading to Loon Lake in the Sierra mountains California in the middle of nowhere nowhere all the sudden I'm only going about 35 miles an hour and I go to roll back onto the throttle and clack clack clack clack clack clack clack left me stranded literally in the middle of nowhere bear and Mountain Lion Country had to stay all night no cell service obviously so I'm walking all night long and I come upon a humongous bear shit steaming bear shit so obviously very fresh if it was steaming oh my gosh I'm still fucking traumatizing it's been over a month..... yeah I hate these bikes now my ever purchase one they are good up until 30,000 if you're okay with rebuilding it at 30,000 miles then get one I cannot believe Honda didn't find this a recall the timing chain tensioner goes out at 30,000 miles but there's no recall and Hondas okay with it....... so yeah not only did leave me stranded in the middle of nowhere but I spent $3,500 on the bike thinking 28,000 miles that's low mileage put new tires on it new brakes on it I was into the bike 5000 easy first real trip I took I got two thousand miles out of that fucking bike clack clack clack clack I want from being on cloud nine heaven on Earth to the other place real quick the blink-of-an-eye want from Heaven to the other place.... what I don't get is how Honda can get by with building a product that only runs till 30,000 miles this is not my opinion this is a known fact look it up I wish somebody would have told me this ship before I bought one of those piles of junk

I think she just rode the wrong Monster...probably wasn't completely taken care of either.

    U like naked bike so why dont u streetfighter it out

    • @ToastToGo
      @ToastToGo  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Speedy Shiftt I've actually been really really really considering it. I've seen many streetfighter conversions of this bike and been scoping out ideas. After a lot of thinking, I don't think I could justify the money loss on doing all that work on a bike I bought for more than I would have wanted to pay for a bike that I had plans on streetfightering. I guess the only way I would actually go through with streetfightering it is if I crashed the bike and didn't claim insurance on it. So I think I'll just leave this bike how it's supposed to be, then maybe streetfighter a crashed bike in the future, or just buy another naked bike in the future. So the bike will stay how it is so it's easier to sell in the future when the time comes haha. :)

  • @barrettwbenton
    @barrettwbenton 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    I agree about naked vs. full-faired: the later was cool when there weren't too many bikes offered that way, but not that every hyperbike has *that* look...
    Then, too, I'd keep the SuperHawk as-is; I knew someone with the same bike, and as bored-to-death as I am with the look, Honda somehow pulled it off with the SH in a way I really, really like. Will be curious about the changes you have in mind for it.
    I've been off motos for more years than I care to recall (mostly off-road), but I'm toying with the idea of coming back with a road bike - most likely either a Hawk GT or 919, though I worry the latter might be biting off a bit much after such a long time off.
    Question: I'd obviously imagine the power-curve difference between the SH and your old triple was pretty vast. How much did you have to adjust your riding style as a result?

    • @ToastToGo
      @ToastToGo  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Barrett Benton My riding style is really tame, so I didn't have to adjust much. Well...the Superhawk feels like it'll get up and go pretty fast without much throttle work. The 675 triple requires a little more input because it doesn't have as much torque and it isn't as strong at the lower revs...but the triple is definitely a great bridge between an i4 and a twin as far as torque feel. The only think I really had to change was the way I held my body on the bike because this is definitely leaned forward more and you have to reach further for the bars more than I did on my triple. The triple fit me perfectly and I'm a little less comfortable on the superhawk, but it took a little getting used to. All is good now.
      I think you would do great on a 919. They are great bikes and very smooth and manageable. Just don't grab too much throttle or you'll lift the front wheel in the air. :D I miss having a naked bike already to be honest. But this bike is beast and is great looking for its age. It's unique looking and I love it for that.

    • @ToastToGo
      @ToastToGo  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Barrett Benton Oh and as for the bike...don't really have any big plans for it since this video really. Just some carb work, electrical work, emissions work, swapping out the triple tree for a non damaged one, and...that's about it. Nothing major.

    What's funny is im looking at a VFR800, VTR1000 and a CB919 as my second bike.. I figured I should ask you lol. What are the major differences that you like/hated about each? I just want a bike that i can keep for a long time and I'm more on the sporty side of things.

    • @ToastToGo
      @ToastToGo  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +ih8momjokes1 All great bikes! I sold my bike that's in this video. Main gripe about the VTR1000...the bike is carbureted and a bit on the older side. The bike has amazing torque and sounds great, but I got really tired of the fueling with the huge carburetors. I rejetted it and changed the fueling to give it a smoother lower end, but the bike had way more torque than I would ever need. The VFR800 is called "the gentleman's sportbike" meaning it can be sport and corner decently well, and is leaned forward a little bit but more comfortable than the VTR1000. The VTR1000 was on the sporty seating position side. The VFR800 is make for sport touring, so it's more comfortable and can do real well cruising on the highway absorbing the bumps, and can do really well in the corners. I was the most confident on the VFR in the corners. The 919 was the most fun bike to me out of those three bikes. Depends on your definitely of fun though. It's the most upright out of all the bikes, so the least sporty feeling, but it was a nice torquey engine and the bike felt light because of the upright sitting position and the handlebars versus the clip-ons that the VTR1000 and the VFR800 have. But for me, I enjoyed that more relaxed feeling as I felt I could be on the bike longer, but it gives you a less sporty feeling. The bike was bare bones and I enjoy bikes like that, but the suspension wasn't great, and the exhaust made a nasty smell that got on my clothes and made me nauseous haha. Uhm....gripes about the VFR800...probably only the weight but that didn't matter once you were moving because it carried it well. It was a really smooth running and riding motorcycle. For you...I might say either the VTR1000 or VFR800 would be better for you because they are sportier feeling, but the VTR1000 is older and carbureted, and the VFR800 is more modern and more refined. For me, I miss my 919 the most, I should have just made the mods to change the exhaust and suspension and kept the bike...but I wish I still had both my VFR and the 919. Great uses for both, even though they have different uses. I just wasn't a big fan of the carburetors on the VTR1000. Hope you can find the right bike for you! All three of those bikes are great, but if I could have my VFR800 and 919 back, I would :P

    • @ih8momjokes1
      @ih8momjokes1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ToastToGo wow thanks for the amazing write-up! i will definitely focus more on the cb919 and vfr800 more. i like them both so it's probably whichever i find a better deal on first :D

    • @ToastToGo
      @ToastToGo  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      flip inheck I sold the bike already. I ended up changing changing the jet to size 48 I believe and shimming the needle a little with spacers. It ran smoother afterwards at lower RPMs. I had a problem where the bike would cut out from running lean at low RPM when in traffic. That really sucked, so I had to do the carbs. I never did the TPS sensor but I did read about that. Thanks for the comment.

    • @ih8momjokes1
      @ih8momjokes1 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      i've come back to report i bought the vtr1000f, i don't know if i bought the wrong bike but things that piss me off: stopping at every gas station (didn't think it was that bad, but it is). the fact that i can't ride in the low rpms without my teeth rattling away. i want to fix the low rpm thing but don't want to sacrifice mpgs whatsoever since it's bad enough as it is. is that possible...? i like the bike a lot, it's fun to ride and sounds good but i find it to be very picky in the way it wants to be ridden. if i see a black 919 for sale i think i will jump on it. in the meantime, i'll just ride the crap out of it and if there are any simple mods to help me out i will try them. :)

    • @ToastToGo
      @ToastToGo  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      ih8momjokes1 Yeah the way the bike feels chattery at low RPMs is a characteristic of v-twins, but it should be manageable. My Ducati Monster is more rough than my VTR1000f was, but I've learned to accept that it's one of the characteristics of the engine. Try running some Seafoam through the engine and see if that smooths things up. Yeah, the 919 is a torquey and super smooth bike, I really did enjoy riding mine, the powerband was a treat for me...I wouldn't mind owning another one honestly. As for MPGs on my Vtr1000, I was getting about 38mpg I believe, and I ride kind of conservatively. The VTR is an old bike now, so it is possible yours might need some work, but the chattery engine at low RPMs is normal for those kind of engines. Anything below 3.5k rpm on my Ducati Monster is pretty dang rough.

      ahhh nice one. love the vtwins. I used to own an 1125r and then got hit on it. My dad has the new EBR1190RX and that thing is absolutely insane. btw, how is winter riding in VA? Im from NJ and winters are shit here. I am going to be moving south eventually but i havnt really settled how far I want to go but I'd like to find a place with decent enough winter riding so that I can ride all year. I have heated gear, but i wont ride below freezing.

    • @ToastToGo
      @ToastToGo  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      2wheelLove Awesome! Those Buells are beast bikes. I was considering one of the naked ones. Yeah I am a fan of the V-twins/L-twins especially. This is my first L-Twin...and my next one will be a naked because I really do feel like naked bikes are my thing haha. Winter riding here in VA isn't the best. You'll have to go south more if you really want year round riding. Some winters are mild where it would hover around the freezing mark, and some are colder like this year's. We just had a small snow storm last night and got about 7" of snow that I just finished shoveling. I just uploaded a small clip to my Facebook showing the snow we got. That's not normal for our area though. I haven't really ridden this winter because I'm not a fan of the cold. And when it snows here, it closes schools down easily haha. We're not prepared at all to plow snow when it covers most roads. So yeah, you'll have to go a little further south I think. I think we've all been getting it kinda bad this winter. But over all, winters are mild here, but still "wet" cold because of our humidity. Brrrr.

    • @2wheelLove
      @2wheelLove 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      dammm dude, i heard about how a lot of the warmer southern states got hammered pretty badly. This winter has been an odd one for sure...who knows maybe we're headed for another ice age hahaa. Yah, i was thinking about NC or even as far as GA. I have family that live in NC near the charlotte area so i have been down there a few times. I wont touch FL tho...too wet and humid there. I guess the ideal place is on the west coast but I have no real desire to move all the way across the country. Plus the cost of living is crazy high there.
      anyways, look into a used 1125CR...they are just as fun as the 1125r's and look pretty wicked IMO ...plus u can get one under 4k if you really look. I had an 11' Z1000 but I sold it two years ago....of course thats an inline 4 so that doesnt do you any good either lol I would say if you have the cash, check out the EBR 1190AX...and personally...i would stay away from the monsters. they really arent anything special and are crazy expensive for not many reasons. especially the older air/oil cooled models with the rubber timing belts.

    • @ToastToGo
      @ToastToGo  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      2wheelLove The 1125CR looks pretty sweet, however, I'm not really a fan of those humongous air shrouds. I feel like they could have been made smaller because the large size just looks a little wild to me. The new EBR bikes got it right by taking them away, I think the new bikes look a whole lot better. As wicked as it looks, I'm not sure I would be able to stay on that thin seat all day. I do like the Z1000's, particularly the first generation. I used to really want one, but now I'm kind of tired of i4 bikes at the moment.
      Have you ever ridden a Monster? I'm curious to hear your comparison. I've been in love with the Monster's looks for about 5 years now. I used to really want the air cooled S2r 1000 because I would even be able to do all the valve maintenance. I love the whole Ducati trellis frame and the kickass tubular swingarm of those S2r's...it's like a work of art. But I've lately been captivated by the new Monster 821 they came out with. Originally wanted the 1200S but realized I really don't need all that power. The new monster's have mode selection with different levels of ABS, a larger tank, extended maintenance intervals, and a better and more comfortable seat for every day use.

    What did you have to do to it after purchasing??? Been looking at one locally and trying to figure out how much I will need to put in to get up to par.

    • @ToastToGo

      +Keith Van de Gryp Some of the things I had to do were purely cosmetic because of the way the previous owner treated the bike or kept the bike. Those things were tires, windscreen, new fairing, and full bike detail. But as far as what I had to do to get the bike running better, I ended up rejetting and shimming the carbs and messing with the fuelling a little as well as synchronizing the carburettors. A lot of people do the rejetting and whatnot on these bikes to get them to run smoother at lower revs, which makes it run a little more rich, but some guys are fine the way it comes. But be warned, it might have to be done because my bike ended up shutting off on me a few times while putting around in traffic because it wasn't getting enough fuel. The jetting method I did was the Hawk method or whatever the guys name was called on the superhawk forums. Some people put heavier fork oil in the forks to reduce the amount of dive the bike does when braking, but the previous owner of my bike already did that, so I didn't have to do any suspension tweaking. Another thing a lot of people do is replace the Regulator/Rectifier with a more heavier duty mosfet one with a kit on ebay. ALSO...people replace the cam chain tensioner with a manual ones because apparently the stock automatic ones are known to fail and cause your bike to essentially...bend a rod haha. I didn't do that because I didn't do that much riding and got rid of the bike for something newer. So things you might HAVE to do to your bike...manual cam chain tensioners, MOSFET r/r, and possible rejetting the carbs if you're as finicky as I was haha.

    Toast, how did the superhawk compare to the street triple performance wise? I had the street too. Have a Harley now but looking for a cheap fun sport bike to add to the stable.

    • @ToastToGo
      @ToastToGo  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      kmfiz hey there. The super hawk was a torque monster, if tuned properly. Torque wise, it would pull on the Street, but it felt heavier. But you're also talking about carbs vs fuel injection. The Street I felt was more agile and comfortable, and the super hawk felt like a heavy sport bike that had gobs of torque. HP numbers are similar. The street didn't pull power wheelies as easily, but I believe felt better overall. The super hawk would be a nice addition to the garage if you don't mind older technology and carburetors and a leaned over sport riding position at stock. If I personally chose between the street Triple and super hawk again, I would probably choose street Triple, even though the super hawk felt more powerful
