I hope Alanda gets into a whole marathon of James Wan’s body of work, Saw, Insidious, The Conjuring, Malignant. It’d be fun. Insidious and The Conjuring are separate franchises, just the same genre
I was unemployed when this came out and saw it during the day in an EMPTY theater. It has some of the most well-constructed jump scares of any movie I have ever seen. And Wan doesn’t believe in fake-outs like a cat jumping into frame. There is always a legitimate reason for it. The soundtrack is freaky as hell too.

This is perfect timing because while slashers are absolutely a blast, last week I was thinking "C'mon guys, there are like 50+ other sub-genres of horror, lets expand Alanda's palette with suggestions for ghosts or creature features or something!" Yay to you starting this franchise!
You know what Alanda should really try? People might think it's a slasher based on the first 45 or so minutes but it would require her to go back to the 70's. Which I think she's swearing off for some reason after the bleakness of _Black Christmas_ and _Texas Chainsaw Massacre._ I think she would REALLY appreciate 1979's _The Brood_ and 1974's _It's Alive._ Both incredibly rewarding, smart movies with very modern themes / themes that have remained very relevant to things happening today. Last week's _Wrong Turn_ left me concerned just because after the first movie, the franchise turns immediately into torture stuff and like survivalist death trap nonsense. Ala, _The Collector_ and sequel but with in the woods _Deliverance, The Hills Have Eyes_ knockoffs. As long as it's just the one film, it's okay. Also: it's tough that maybe Alanda will watch _Friday the 13th Part V_ to get to the highly entertaining 6th film. And I think she's going to dislike that film a considerable amount. Think about stopping the franchise there. I think she'll get infinitely more satisfaction from higher concept slashers like 1983's _Curtains._ Or the incredibly intelligent Jamie Lee Curtis film, 1980's _Prom Night._

I think 5 will leave a poor taste in alandas mouth due to the fat character dying while eating a banana and the ableist depictions of mental health. But youre right, 6 is a standard in decent slashers as well. To counter you though I would personally really like alanda to watch part 2 of Wrong Turn, and then The Collector as you mentioned. It’s grisly, dark, and mean, but a fantastic survival thriller.
@@dusthymn8187 The banana scene happened in the 4th film (which of course we already watched Alanda react to), she of course did a lot to make the obnoxious part 4 bearable. _The Collector_ is homophobic, so as a gay man, I say that film can eat trash and decay elsewhere. From what I remember, _Wrong Turn 2_ at the very least is undone by insufferable, unlikable characters. Alanda really should quit at part 1.

This movie scared me. That little boy dancing to Tiptoe Through The Tulips. No ma'am. I mentally checked out. So creepy. James Wan is awesome. He makes very good, scary horror movies. Love the cast, love the soundtrack, love it all. Just wait til Chapter 2. It gets crazier.

Watched this at the theater with my sister. Went into it assuming it would be a so so horror flick. When the violin music started in the beginning we were practically glued to each other terrified already😂 We were like “what did we get ourselves into?🫣😱
Fun fact, Specs (the Mormon with the glasses😂) is Leigh Whannell, the writer of the film. He and James Wan went to school together and started their careers off as a directing/ writing duo with this and Saw. Leigh actually went on to direct Insidious 3 and some other really cool sci-fi horror movies:)

My college friends and I saw this in theaters when it first came out. We all thought we were horror veterans as well. As soon as the opening title "INSIDIOUS" blasted on screen we all screamed. And kept screaming through the movie. Had nightmares and were unable to get proper sleep for WEEKS
Getting ready for work, but i cant wait to watch this later. Insidious is its own Universe. The conjuring is also its own, but it also contains Annabelle and The Nun. It also includes La Llorona, but that's more of a loose connection. The Conjuring verses timeline is all switched up though, so after Conjuring 1, 2, 3, you can watch the connected movies (aside from Annabelle) in any order.
insidious is one of my favorite franchises, i just like the lore and the trio of elise, specs and tucker (latter two being the "mormons" as you called them). i'm not sure if anyone in the comments mentioned this but the person playing the lipstick-face demon aka the big bad villain is joseph bishara and he is also the composer for this movie!

I didn't expect an upload this early in the morning. This was a nice surprise! I am very immune to horror movies. Things that other people say are terrifying I watch without an issue. This is one of only movies I can even think of that has left me feeling creeped out for any length of time. (The other being Gremlins, which I watched when I was way too young and left me scared of the dark for years afterward). I'm glad to see you getting into these movies. Lmao so here’s this one: my roommate decided to watch this super late at night, while I was asleep in the same room. When those violins kicked in, he said I started writhing around in my sleep like I was having a nightmare💀
Ooooh, James Wan... That could be a big issue. Most of his films have deeply problematic right wing themes and truly hateful content in them. Especially _Saw, The Conjuring, Insidious: Chapter 2,_ and I didn't see _Death Sentence_ but... I haven't seen any of Eli Roth's movies show up here and I'm guessing people feel he's untrustworthy. With good reason. James Wan is just as bad. I would literally stop after this movie and / or maybe _Dead Silence_ since it's just a harmless jumpscare movie. And go right into the first _Sinister_ movie instead. A much better followup after _Insidious._ ALSO Ti West's earlier films _The Innkeepers_ and _House of the Devil_ after this, I GUARANTEE the results will be much better. Also = New Zealand's 2014 amazing haunted house movie, _Housebound._ Alanda will LOVE that film. Why hasn't anyone suggested it? In fact... I didn't like _Black Swan_ but why aren't people recommending that film? Perfect followup after _The Babadook, The VVitch,_ and _The Ring._ Also I'm shocked after _You're Next_ that nobody suggested Larry Fessenden's _Wendigo_ and _The Last Winter_ right after. Those would be tremendous non-slasher horror films to watch for the channel!! Elevated Horror classics from the 2000's, both. (Fessenden, of course, also starred in _You're Next_ as the next door neighbor whose wife/girlfriend likes orange juice and CD's.) Also... _The Woods_ from 2006 is a little acquired taste (the story might be holding back a lot of important information) but visually it's highly impressive. Much less toxic than James Wan.

@@kunglaoshat1250 Well (thanks for asking btw), in real life Ed and Lorraine Warren were super: Be Christian Or Else You're Going to Hell judgmental conservative types. Which is super dangerous messaging, anti-everyone should be free to be themselves. Puts LGTBQ+ people at risk of losing their human rights (etc). James Wan is fascinated by the Warrens, made a bunch of movies now with their messages in them, and clearly feels dedicated to making sure their feelings are held up onscreen as-is, no care taken to de-extremist their beliefs. And of course, the movie also is super-obnoxiously violent = pretending it's normal for ghosts to pick people up and throw them around rooms like stunt performers. Patrick Wilson's acting especially in all the _Conjuring_ movies shows him constantly belittling anyone who doesn't agree with him or anyone who doesn't "surrender" to his faith, the way *he* believes. He's incredibly aggressive, condescending about it every minute.

For what it’s worth I don’t think most people that enjoy those movies actually subscribe to the Warren’s belief system regarding things like lgbtq rights. For most people it doesn’t go deeper than a well made horror movie. I think if those movies were actually having an impact and converting people then you would see conservative Christian circles promoting and encouraging people to watch them which isn’t something I’ve observed. Demonic possession is a sub genre of horror and I don’t think the messaging in The Conjuring is any more extreme than most of those movies 🤷🏾♀️ The ghost throwing people around and other stunts didn’t bother me because I expect movies to do those kinds of over the top things to make it entertaining. Most movies “based on a true story” are highly exaggerated or outright fabrications so I wasn’t expecting too much realism going in.
I am BEYOND excited you're watching this series!! This just made my whole week. In my opinion, it's one of the best due to the jump scares, not to mention the music is terrifying.

In case you wanted to know, the violin sounding instrument is actually a piano. The composer used the strings inside. Also, the red devil guy is the composer. And the Mormon (😂) with the glasses wrote the movie. Oh, and thirdly, I used to watch this and the second one before bed. I'm weird, I know 🤣
I actually rented all 4 of these movies on dvd from Netflix starting with Insidious 3 because it's Elise's backstory. Then I rented 4 , 2, and then 1 in that order. Just in my opinion I thought #2 was the best one.
So amazing watching the progression into the genre, and it's so cool watching the community pull together to give guidance on how to navigate it. Starting from creature features like tremors and the thing, onto classic slashers like halloween and scream, deftly skipping over the torture porn Era in things like saw or terrifier, and now arriving at more meaty entries into the genre like insidious, barbarian, or pearl.
I love this series, the 2nd one is definitely my favorite hands down but I also like the 3rd installment even if the act 3 was not as good as the 1st and 2nd act
This movie is honestly AMAZING!!!! I remember watching all 3 movies in one day when I was home alone one time and that was very much a BAD IDEA!!!! But at least it was day time. It didn’t help. I loved it, though. 😂
This movie was the first time I can remember being so scared that I blocked most of it out. I watched it a few years later like I’m sure I’ve seen this and scene in the kitchen with it behind the dad was when it all came back to me and I remembered why I blocked it all out. This was one of my favorite theater experiences - packed with people in Manhattan and everybody was screaming and popcorn was flying during some of the jump scares and then we all applauded at the end lol It’s so freaky how the red faced demon really fancies himself a clown like figure that can entertain children with his puppets to lure them into the further, like he thinks it’s a friendly facade lol
Oh, you have to watch the second one at least. It's a direct continuation of this one. My wife and I watch them back to back like one extra long movie.
This movie fucked me up as a kid and still does honestly, even while I was watching you watching Insidious I was mainly focusing on your reactions and it still gave me chills and goosebumps the whole time 😭 I can't even explain why it still gets me when I've watched it so many times, I know when all the jump scares are coming, I know the whole family survives and get a happy ending!! And yet it's so well made and effective that I still get shit scared even now, especially the bit when Rose Byrne goes in the baby's room and there's a man standing over the crib like could you imagine if you saw that irl, I would die on the spot 💀
My husband who hates horror and gore wanted me to show him a non-gory horror movie and he REALLY enjoyed Insidious. The first one is great and the rest SUCK!
The mother in law, Josh's mom, is played by Barbara Hershey, that also played Cora, the Evil Queen's (Regina) mother, in Once Upon A Time. And was also the co star with Bette Midler in Beaches.
I have been obsessed with horror since I was 7 and Insidious was one of the first excellent horror movies I saw after the noticable decline in horror after 2007. At least in the Hollywood sphere. After this I feel like ghost horror was super mainstream which I love cause it's my favorite type of horror. So this movie made a ghost horror renaissance era that I absolutely loved haha. Such a great reaction and I can't wait for us all to watch the next one!
I don't know, Insidious just isn't scary to me at all. I wish it was, I had high hopes, everybody went on and on about how scary it was. I just find something about Wan that hits my funny bone and I can't take any of his work seriously. That doesn't mean it isn't fun, though. It just strikes me like tongue in cheek bad community theater. I watched this one for Lin Shaye (Room for Rent is great) and the design of the bride. But, I have to say I love seeing the effect it's supposed to have on the viewer and it makes it a very fun watch to see it through your eyes. I started watching this movie at my brother’s behest. He left the house (and me home alone) as soon as Josh got into The Further. Easily the scariest part of the movie 😂 I was so mad!

@@AlandaParker Nightmare 6 isn’t that bad in my opinion, it’s a good time, it’s campy and silly, still creepy but not necessarily scary. It’s not everyone’s favourite, but I ate it up when I was little. New nightmare to me was kind of Wes Craven’s first attempt at being meta. New nightmare came out in 94 and Wes did scream in 96 right afterwards, so the tone in new nightmare felt like a trial run imo.
I really don’t spook easily but this one scared the shit out of me in the theater.😣😣 I think I understand why it took you soOo long to appreciate scary movies. You are a HIGHLY empathetic human being. You say things like “don’t take MY son” and “WE must leave” like you’ve place yourself in their shoes completely. _The Collector_ is homophobic, so as a gay man, I say that film can eat trash and decay elsewhere. From what I remember, _Wrong Turn 2_ at the very least is undone by insufferable, unlikable characters. Alanda really should quit at part 1.

This movie scared me. That little boy dancing to Tiptoe Through The Tulips. No ma'am. I mentally checked out. So creepy. James Wan is awesome. He makes very good, scary horror movies. Love the cast, love the soundtrack, love it all. Just wait til Chapter 2. It gets crazier.

Watched this at the theater with my sister. Went into it assuming it would be a so so horror flick. When the violin music started in the beginning we were practically glued to each other terrified already😂 We were like “what did we get ourselves into?🫣😱

My college friends and I saw this in theaters when it first came out. We all thought we were horror veterans as well. As soon as the opening title "INSIDIOUS" blasted on screen we all screamed. And kept screaming through the movie. Had nightmares and were unable to get proper sleep for WEEKS

Insidious is its own Universe. The conjuring is also its own, but it also contains Annabelle and The Nun. It also includes La Llorona, but that's more of a loose connection.
The Conjuring verses timeline is all switched up though, so after Conjuring 1, 2, 3, you can watch the connected movies (aside from Annabelle) in any order.
insidious is one of my favorite franchises, i just like the lore and the trio of elise, specs and tucker (latter two being the "mormons" as you called them). i'm not sure if anyone in the comments mentioned this but the person playing the lipstick-face demon aka the big bad villain is joseph bishara and he is also the composer for this movie!

I didn't expect an upload this early in the morning. This was a nice surprise! I am very immune to horror movies. Things that other people say are terrifying I watch without an issue. This is one of only movies I can even think of that has left me feeling creeped out for any length of time. (The other being Gremlins, which I watched when I was way too young and left me scared of the dark for years afterward). I'm glad to see you getting into these movies. Ooooh, James Wan... That could be a big issue. Most of his films have deeply problematic right wing themes and truly hateful content in them. Especially _Saw, The Conjuring, Insidious: Chapter 2,_ and I didn't see _Death Sentence_ but... I haven't seen any of Eli Roth's movies show up here and I'm guessing people feel he's untrustworthy. With good reason. James Wan is just as bad.
I would literally stop after this movie and / or maybe _Dead Silence_ since it's just a harmless jumpscare movie. And go right into the first _Sinister_ movie instead. A much better followup after _Insidious._ ALSO Ti West's earlier films _The Innkeepers_ and _House of the Devil_ after this, I GUARANTEE the results will be much better.
Also = New Zealand's 2014 amazing haunted house movie, _Housebound._ Alanda will LOVE that film. Why hasn't anyone suggested it?

Also I'm shocked after _You're Next_ that nobody suggested Larry Fessenden's _Wendigo_ and _The Last Winter_ right after. Those would be tremendous non-slasher horror films to watch for the channel!! Elevated Horror classics from the 2000's, both. (Fessenden, of course, also starred in _You're Next_ as the next door neighbor whose wife/girlfriend likes orange juice and CD's.)
Also... _The Woods_ from 2006 is a little acquired taste (the story might be holding back a lot of important information) but visually it's highly impressive. Much less toxic than James Wan.

Which is super dangerous messaging, anti-everyone should be free to be themselves. Puts LGTBQ+ people at risk of losing their human rights (etc).
James Wan is fascinated by the Warrens, made a bunch of movies now with their messages in them, and clearly feels dedicated to making sure their feelings are held up onscreen as-is, no care taken to de-extremist their beliefs. And of course, the movie also is super-obnoxiously violent = pretending it's normal for ghosts to pick people up and throw them around rooms like stunt performers.
Patrick Wilson's acting especially in all the _Conjuring_ movies shows him constantly belittling anyone who doesn't agree with him or anyone who doesn't "surrender" to his faith, the way *he* believes. He's incredibly aggressive, condescending about it every minute.

For what it’s worth I don’t think most people that enjoy those movies actually subscribe to the Warren’s belief system regarding things like lgbtq rights. For most people it doesn’t go deeper than a well made horror movie. I think if those movies were actually having an impact and converting people then you would see conservative Christian circles promoting and encouraging people to watch them which isn’t something I’ve observed. Demonic possession is a sub genre of horror and I don’t think the messaging in The Conjuring is any more extreme than most of those movies 🤷🏾♀️
The ghost throwing people around and other stunts didn’t bother me because I expect movies to do those kinds of over the top things to make it entertaining. Most movies “based on a true story” are highly exaggerated or outright fabrications so I wasn’t expecting too much realism going in.
James Wan has a great filmography! If it’s not already on your list, Alanda, you should watch Malignant.
There are two movies that scared the shite out of me as an adult. The exorcism of emily rose & Insidious. Damn good scary movies.

it's Elise's backstory. Then I rented 4 , 2, and then 1 in that order. Just in my opinion I thought

So amazing watching the progression into the genre, and it's so cool watching the community pull together to give guidance on how to navigate it. Starting from creature features like tremors and the thing, onto classic slashers like halloween and scream, deftly skipping over the torture porn Era in things like saw or terrifier, and now arriving at more meaty entries into the genre like insidious, barbarian, or pearl.

This movie was the first time I can remember being so scared that I blocked most of it out. I watched it a few years later like I’m sure I’ve seen this and scene in the kitchen with it behind the dad was when it all came back to me and I remembered why I blocked it all out. This was one of my favorite theater experiences - packed with people in Manhattan and everybody was screaming and popcorn was flying during some of the jump scares and then we all applauded at the end lol

This movie fucked me up as a kid and still does honestly, even while I was watching you watching Insidious I was mainly focusing on your reactions and it still gave me chills and goosebumps the whole time 😭 I can't even explain why it still gets me when I've watched it so many times, I know when all the jump scares are coming, I know the whole family survives and get a happy ending!! And yet it's so well made and effective that I still get shit scared even now, especially the bit when Rose Byrne goes in the baby's room and there's a man standing over the crib like could you imagine if you saw that irl, I would die on the spot 💀

My husband who hates horror and gore wanted me to show him a non-gory horror movie and he REALLY enjoyed Insidious. The first one is great and the rest SUCK!
The mother in law, Josh's mom, is played by Barbara Hershey, that also played Cora, the Evil Queen's (Regina) mother, in Once Upon A Time. And was also the co star with Bette Midler in Beaches.
I have been obsessed with horror since I was 7 and Insidious was one of the first excellent horror movies I saw after the noticable decline in horror after 2007. At least in the Hollywood sphere. After this I feel like ghost horror was super mainstream which I love cause it's my favorite type of horror. So this movie made a ghost horror renaissance era that I absolutely loved haha. Such a great reaction and I can't wait for us all to watch the next one!
I don't know, Insidious just isn't scary to me at all. I wish it was, I had high hopes, everybody went on and on about how scary it was. I just find something about Wan that hits my funny bone and I can't take any of his work seriously. That doesn't mean it isn't fun, though. It just strikes me like tongue in cheek bad community theater. I watched this one for Lin Shaye (Room for Rent is great) and the design of the bride. But, I have to say I love seeing the effect it's supposed to have on the viewer and it makes it a very fun watch to see it through your eyes. I started watching this movie at my brother’s behest. He left the house (and me home alone) as soon as Josh got into The Further. Easily the scariest part of the movie 😂 I was so mad!

@@AlandaParker Nightmare 6 isn’t that bad in my opinion, it’s a good time, it’s campy and silly, still creepy but not necessarily scary. It’s not everyone’s favourite, but I ate it up when I was little. New nightmare to me was kind of Wes Craven’s first attempt at being meta. New nightmare came out in 94 and Wes did scream in 96 right afterwards, so the tone in new nightmare felt like a trial run imo.
