It's actually not based on any specific murders. The director denied the Manson comparisons, and claimed it was based on break-ins in his neighborhood when he was a child. The burglars would knock on doors and burglarize the homes that didn't answer. If they did, they'd ask for someone who didn't live there and move on. Still creepy af!
“Because you were home.” The fact that there was no real motive. That line alone gave me chills. As soon as I heard “see you later” I would’ve dipped. Ain't no way I’m staying after hearing that. 🏃🏼♀️💨
Yeah, complicated motives can be interesting but this is one of the things that makes the Strangers scary: they don’t need a motive. There’s three of them and they will play with you like killer whales play with their food.
I like how the movie had basically no soundtrack, it relied on pure noise, knocking on the door, windows, the screams etc .. Prey at Night is very different in that regard but I still enjoyed it, the trio was definately more experienced but way too cocky
And then them taking off their masks, implicitly telling them “We don’t care if you see our faces, you won’t get out of here to tell anyone” arguably as chilling as “because you were home”
this movie came out when I was 12 years old. I begged & begged my Mom to take me to go see it. She finally agreed, and it scared us both to death. When we got home from the theater, we sat in the car both too spooked to even get out of the car and walk inside. When we finally opened the car door, the car alarm started going off & we both screamed and ran inside the house. When we got in, we laughed at ourselves for being so ridiculous hahahaha. We talked about it for years. She was my best friend. She passed in a car accident last year. I still miss her all the time, and this video reminded me of that funny memory we shared together. Keep doing what you do Alanda, can't wait for the next video.
I worked at a movie theater back in '08 -- my first job -- and I brought my Mom to see this. As soon as that opening voiceover took hold, she turned to me: "Dan, what the fuck did you bring me to?" RIP, Ma. The OG who introduced me to horror movies 🎃
“who lives in a house with no way to look out the door” is exactly what I question every time. Like no peephole? Just vibes and a prayer. Even sometimes they do have peepholes and still just swing the door open . Like come on now, y’all don’t tiptoe to the door and look out to see who knocking at your door when you not expecting anyone 😭
The Strangers Prey at Night is a fun sequel. There's no connection to this one except for the killers themselves and is an homage to 80s slashers, whereas this one was inspired by 70s home invasion films. A huge recommendation for that one as well!

I’ll never forget, the day after I saw this movie for the first time someone knocked on my door and asked for someone who I didn’t live with. Honestly one of the scariest moments of my life
The director has said that this film was inspired by an incident from his childhood. Someone came knocking on his door asking for someone that didn't live there. Later he learned that a nearby house had been burglarized. It has been speculated that the film was loosely based on the 1981 Keddie Resort murders.
I watch a lot of horror and this movie is one that truly terrified me. I saw it in the theater and the moment when Sackcloth Dude just silently comes out of the dark hallway and stares at Kristen in the kitchen was epic. The lower left part of the theater noticed it before everyone else and gasps and screams went across the theater like "the wave" at a sporting event. It was a great theater experience.
This movie was so effective and just so disturbing especially the ending. Like the couple is completely hopeless in a situation like this and there’s no help coming for them.
I remember watching this in cinema and I was so blown away. The "true events" that its based on is Charles Manson murders and the unsolved Keddie murders. The part about asking if tamara is home is based on something the director went through as a kid. One night when his parents were away, he was at home with his sister. After hearing a knock on the door they asked who it was and were asked if someone who didnt live there were home, obviously they said no the guy went away... They learned later that those people were doing that because if they didnt get an answer, they broke in and stole stuffs..

While I don’t rewatch this movie at all just cause I’m not that big about home invasion horror movies this is definitely iconic. From the simple masks to the continuous build up to it being based on a true event or at least inspired by one.
I watched this movie at the theater when I was 12-13 and it was amazing! It had everyone scared and nervous. I absolutely adore these kind of movies that scare you without needing a ton of blood and gore
My favorite home invasion movie! It gave me nightmares, which doesn't happen usually and I even wrote a song about the movie 😁 Love your reactions as always Alanda ❤️ And that outfit? An absolute serve!
If you want another realistic, slow-crawl horror film I strongly suggest the aussie film Lake Mungo. It's done like a documentary, and is quiet and introspective, but imo it is well worth the watch. It doesn't bother with big action scenes or CGI demons, and instead leaves us with more 'real' horrors like grief, secrets, and unanswered questions.
This movie terrifies me. I was 19 when someone broke into my home while I was there alone. It was truly the worst experience of my life thus far (hopefully nothing worse ever happens). I heard noises at the side door and checked the window to see a large man coming from the back of my house, onto the side porch, and then I hear these loud thuds and banging. He was breaking down my door. My scrawny ass grabbed a big kitchen knife, my cell phone & my elderly dog and hid in a crawlspace upstairs while calling the cops. Still not sure if her knew I was home or not, I like to think he didn't know and truly wasn't intending on causing me any harm. The police got there and found him hiding in a closet with a 'weapon' in his pocket. Still don't know what that was to this day. Try not to think about it. Literally never felt safe again alone and have PTSD to this day about it. That is a sacred space and it is so violating to have someone do that and ruin my home and security. Now living in a new house with my husband, but my parents still live there. We have a security system now and I have much more peace in my new space, but still jump at the smallest sound. Fuck home invaders.
I remember watching this in the theater. The entire audience was shook. They both (especially James) do some stupid things but the set up is still creepy.
"Because you were home" is an introvert's nightmare. Sirs and Madams I am always home, please go find an extrovert they'll definitely open the door for you. I army crawl to the back of the house to avoid being spotted through windows on the regular so good luck trying to make contact.
What makes it even more tragic was the helplessness we the audience feels for the couple. All you can do is watch it all happened. And for what? Just because. THAT... is scary. No real reason at all. Just random. They didn't know these people at all. Things were bad enough already beforehand because they'd just had a fight. Then they had to fight for their lives and lost. That shit is heartbreaking but also more believable since stuff like this do and does happen in right life. It's scary to think about. Sometimes its easy to forget that humans are the biggest monsters of all.
I remember seeing this in theaters... Those sharp loud noised boomed so loud in the theaters. Man my whole entire theater screamed in unison soooo many times. I feel like everyone that watched this back then bought extra security means... We were SHOOOOOOK!!
Now you gottaaaaa watch the sequel, The Strangers: Prey At Night. It’s more of a fun chaotic slasher than a moody home invasion movie, so I found it a lot more palatable to my taste of horror genre (even though I do love the og). Definitely recommend because the scares, set pieces, everything is just soooo fun and exciting. Messed up and brutal as is expected, but still a very fun sequel.
I saw this movie for the first time a few years after it came out when I was in college. It was the first horror movie to truly terrify me in a long time. Also...watching this now, it infuriates me that James came in, didn't believe her, and took her weapon away! Like, sir! I would like to live, please! And the fact that he lied about knowing how to use the gun? Mm mm, no sir.
I remember when I first watched this movie. My God, the main character pissed me off in the 2nd half of this movie, she had SEVERAL chances to run and get help or break into a neighbour's house and call the cops
I remember an actor I like talking about how this movie terrified him because it made him think through so many scenarios in a home invasion and whether he would head straight for his family or straight to his guns.
forever one of the scariest movies of all time. and ACTUALLY scary, it creeps you out so good and leaves no redemption at the end. True horror at its finest!
This movie is one of the most unsettling I have ever seen. Why? Because there is no motive for the behavior. If ever there was a movie that demonstrates the trauma that can result from a violation of boundaries it is this one.
I'm not too sure if you watched the extended version, but there's a scene where the friend’s cell phone rings and Liv Tyler all bloody and stabbed crawls across the floor but they snatch it from her and leave to bleed out
Saw this on a whim, in a mostly empty theater (which added to the creepiness) and was the most scared I had been at a horror movie in over a decade. So much tension in this film, and they accomplished the rare feat of not always being able to predict where the scares were going to come from.
Yaaaasss! Commenting before it starts - The Strangers is one of my favorite movies of this genre; I'm excited to see your reaction! The first time I watched this, I had asked my older brother to recommend a good movie. He knew I was going to be watching it at night while alone at home 🤣. I had my surround sound on, literally speakers surrounding me, and I'm telling you, that very first knock on the door, and then the knocks when Kirsten is alone, with surround sound...! And with the narration at the beginning, the premise and the setting (so, seeming like a realistic possibility of this happening to oneself irl), coupled with the sounds, just add to the fear while watching! Also, all of the music is so creepy, and telling; not to mention when Dollface tells them she'll see them later when she first appears, and she likely unscrewed that lightbulb, and the way she looks past James to look at Kirsten to check out who is in the house...
This is the only movie I've ever seen that really got to me. Like truly, deep down, got to my soul. So it was tough to watch Alanda go through the same thing. This is a rough one and not one I would ever care to revisit on my own (or even with my husband or friends present).
This is an absolute modern classic , I love it ❤️ After this I'm going back and watching @ZZAVID reaction again that is one of the best reactions on YT I love the Content , always here for more 🙂 Hope your having an amazing Spooky season Girl Keep it up an keep it 💯
"I guess it's there job to be a witness" plus the guilty chuckle... I was wtching this on break at work and had to hold back my horse laugh. Those boys were Mormon but that joke was too good to pass up.🤣🤣🤣
Good luck girl, I remember watching this movie with my dad. We rented it but he left to go get something from the store so I was by myself watching this movie. I don't remember what time of day it was but let me just say it left a lasting impression. I only will watch reactions to this movie but for me to pop this on at night by myself...I don't think so. My favorite aspect is that there's no actual motivation, at the end she just says "It's because you were home" and I love it. No back story. Nothing complicated. It's just something that has happens.
I'm a horror buff. I've grown up with it, I've seen everything. Genuinely nothing scares me anymore. Give me jumpscares, haunted dolls, possessed kids, serial killers, monsters, haunted animatronics in a pizzeria, literally anything. But this shit. Home invasions. This is the one and only thing in the world of horror that not only scares me, it fcking wrecks me for days on end. Way too real, way too close to home. This movie is done phenomenally. Can't wait to watch your reaction to the sequel next!!
And I also love how much you are so in to this movie when you react to it. And I was so into to this movie too. And I love just watching movies with you a lot Alanna Parker.😊😊😊😊❤️❤️❤️❤️
yeah the shot of the man in the mask standing in the dark behind kristen never fails to make me uneasy. such a simple yet HORRIFYING scene. this movie is one hell of a ride.
Another home invasion film that is worth a look is Funny Games from 2007. It is actually a remake of a film from 1997. It stars Naomi Watts and Tim Roth.
"Slipping and sliding like the damn CIA" add that to another one of the list of Alana sayings that I don't understand but absolutely love! otherwise that scene where the dude shows up in the background silently is one of the creepiest scenes I've ever watched in theaters.
Home invasion movies are the ones that scare me the most because they are real and they happen more often than not. Lock yourdoors people and never open the door esp at night or early morning hours.
Y'all if this is actually based on a true story 🗣 PLEASE DON'T TELL ME ABOUT THE REAL MURDERS!
It’s very loosely based on real murders and combines a few incidents in one. No actual real life event happened based on the plot of this movie

Skin glowing, hair poppin, fits fabulous, demeanor sweet 😭😭 you’re literally the best Alanda ❤️❤️
Live for the soft, pastel fashion 💗
If you want another realistic, slow-crawl horror film I strongly suggest the aussie film Lake Mungo. It's done like a documentary, and is quiet and introspective, but imo it is well worth the watch. It doesn't bother with big action scenes or CGI demons, and instead leaves us with more 'real' horrors like grief, secrets, and unanswered questions.
Yeah! Slow burn, but I loved how the story did a 180 and turned out more realistic than you'd expect
This is one of my all-time favourite movies and your reaction (as always) was everything!! "I guess they're meant to be witnesses" had me cracking up!
Your reactions are hilarious!! I definitely recommend "The Haunting" (1963) and "Fright night" (1985) :)
This movie scared the hell out of me when I saw it in theater. Needless to say, I still check the doors and windows to this day.
You reading them to filth brings me so much joy! 🤣 No one invades this house without hearing something from Alanda!
Messed up and brutal as is expected, but still a very fun sequel.
the atmosphere in this movie is crazy. been waiting for you to finally react to this
I saw this movie for the first time a few years after it came out when I was in college.
"Please turn around and see this mfn sack face!!!"
This was all gold.
Thank you for your Beautiful Spirit…Smile…and even the Screams! Thank you for being Awesome!!!
forever one of the scariest movies of all time. and ACTUALLY scary, it creeps you out so good and leaves no redemption at the end. True horror at its finest!
I am fucking dead!! They open the door the very first time and the girl goes “hiii” and Alanda said “shut the damn door!!” 😂😂 same
"I guess it's their job to be a witness..." OMFG!!! I AM CRYING!!! Alanda you are so funny!!!!
This movie is one of the most unsettling I have ever seen. Why? Because there is no motive for the behavior. If ever there was a movie that demonstrates the trauma that can result from a violation of boundaries it is this one.
"Nothing about this is giving 'best friend!Mike can handle it'" Love your commentary.
I'm not too sure if you watched the extended version, but there's a scene where the friend’s cell phone rings and Liv Tyler all bloody and stabbed crawls across the floor but they snatch it from her and leave to bleed out
I'll never forget seeing this in theaters when I was a 11 and going home absolutely traumatized
I know we never know exactly how we'd react until the situation arises, but I'd vote Alanda in charge IMMEDIATELY in a situation like this.
“I guess it’s their job to be a witness” 😂😂😂. The way I cackled lmao
Yay!!! So excited!
The Strangers: Prey At Night was super good as well!! Definitely give that a watch if you can! ☺️
It's always a joy seeing a girl as genuine as you 😇
Saw this on a whim, in a mostly empty theater (which added to the creepiness) and was the most scared I had been at a horror movie in over a decade. So much tension in this film, and they accomplished the rare feat of not always being able to predict where the scares were going to come from.
The way they should have drove tf away from the house after she said “I’ll see you later”
This is an absolute modern classic , I love it ❤️
After this I'm going back and watching @ZZAVID reaction again that is one of the best reactions on YT
I love the Content , always here for more 🙂
Hope your having an amazing Spooky season Girl
Keep it up an keep it 💯
"I guess it's there job to be a witness" plus the guilty chuckle...
Your reactions are always great 🤣Also love the elf ears! 🥰
Alanda: I hope they survive and kill the killers and not the other way around
Me: 😬😬😬 yikes
When Liv Tyler's character finds the fire alarm on the chair and Alanda just goes "She said ooo" is so funny and I don't know why! 😂
And I also love how much you are so in to this movie when you react to it. And I was so into to this movie too. And I love just watching movies with you a lot Alanna Parker.😊😊😊😊❤️❤️❤️❤️
the ear cuffs are gorgeous!! You'r horror videos give me an extra boost
Saw this in the theatre and my shoulders were not lowered for weeeeks from the stress!
This is one of very few horror movies that has actually scared me
"wrong house b*tch keep it moving" and 'f*ck off lady" have me in tears! lmao
yeah the shot of the man in the mask standing in the dark behind kristen never fails to make me uneasy. such a simple yet HORRIFYING scene. this movie is one hell of a ride.
Another home invasion film that is worth a look is Funny Games from 2007. It is actually a remake of a film from 1997. It stars Naomi Watts and Tim Roth.
Yes, Funny Games is great; I was wondering if anyone mentioned it. If she checks it out, I hope she sees the original though.
@@viviandarkbloom4339 Yeah. I just like the cast of the remake more.
Smile at a stranger, see what happens.
We don't deserve you Alanda! You are such a light and I appreciate these videos so much
