I'll go to my grave insisting that "Crawdaddy" is about as perfect a pop album as ever been made. Ten great songs and not a throwaway in the bunch, leaves you smiling and craving more.
This was before I got to LA; 90-93 in Chicago, just after college, and finding myself along w two close friends. We jammed to this before going out every weekend
+Stephen McCoull -I AGREE THEY ARE SO UNDER RATED THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN REALLY BIG SUCH A HIGH QUALITY BAND NOT A BAD SONG EVER, I HAVE THEM ALL IN MY COLLECTION
roguenation, yup, Sony dropped the ball on them when they came over to the States. Was a shame, they could have had a much more successful career and we could of had some good music from them. I miss the late 80's early 90's.
While I think Erotica is the Darling Buds' magnum opus, I first heard this song while stationed with the Army in South Korea; and this is the song that turned me on to the Darling Buds.
If you like the Darling Buds...Check out The Primitives, with Tracey Tracey, lead singer who auditioned when they were looking for a male singer! CRASH.
1990. The Cold War had just ended peacefully. It was a time of great happiness and joy. And this song, video, album, band shows a reflection of the free cheerful spirit of 1990. This is the tune that I know the Buds best for. Great cheery carefree 'dream pop' (?) alternative rock, with a modern pseudo-psychedelic video to boot. And the QT Andrea sings with such an easy pleasant sexy voice. It doesn't get much better than this. Pleasant to the ears and to the eyes. A pure treat.
I remember walking into a record store in 1990 and i heard this song playing and wanted to ask someone at the store who this Band was but i didn’t want to look stupid or have the employee tell me she didn’t know. I asked anyway and im glad i did because this turned out to be one of my fav albums of all time. I listen to it all the time. I never knew anything about the Band other than that they were European. Ive only met one person who knew who they were and he actually had this Album before me. I have however, turned alot of people on to them. I’d play the Album for friends in the car or st home just to get a reaction and 99% of my friends would be thinkin “wow this is a good song” and then they would ask “ who is this, me likey” Well, glad i found them, the Band is great on every level
I love "Crawdaddy" from the first time saw one of their videos broadcasted on MTV at 2:30am every Saturday morning. No internet back then. It was all about word of mouth, local record shops, Rolling Stone (and very small variety of magazines), and staying up all Friday night until 2:30am to watch MTV. I was 14 then. I discovered some of my favorite bands to this day these ways and it was FUN.
I remember listening to this band in the early 90s when I worked at SOUND WAREHOUSE record store. Good times!!!! The Darling Buds should have BLOWN up HUGE!!!! They STILL have a Cult following even TODAY and perform occasionally.
Yes, I have been thinking for years I'd love to see them live again as went to loads of their gigs 'in the day' and still listen to their music. It wasn't the original line up though, ONLY Andrea and new faces. Sounded good though.
Wow. Still only 22,000 views and only 618 subs? This band actually charted several successful hits in the late 80's/early 90's, this one being their biggest, but I guess they're still a bit obscure.

1990 DFW, Texas, 94.5 The Edge, this song was in the rotation. Got me through as a night shift computer operator.
Great band, album. Bass riff is excellent. Loved playing this in Cali in '90-91 on the highways

There is no music made in this day and age to match what was made in the late 80s and early 90s. A great pop band.
I remember this song was on a mini CD that came with 12 packs of coke in the summer back in the early 90s, loved it then, love it now.
I had that. Prefab Sprout on there, too.
That’s where l first heard it too
I just bought the Coca Cola minis on eBay for this song today!! I had those cds when I was young!
How did this band not get bigger than they were?
+Stephen McCoull i loved the darling buds. got to see them...great alternative pop band.
+Stephen McCoull
According to the DB Wiki page it was due to a lack of promotional support from the record label.

They were always big in my heart.

Reminds me of spring 1991 as 9th grader. One of my fave times of my life and still have a crystal clear memory of it.
I see what you did there.
Saw them at Slim's in San Francisco back in 1992. What a fun show, and Andrea Lewis was so cute.

I worked for the company that released their mini-CD on Coca Cola products in the early 90's. I always dug this tune.

Was big on WXRT in Chicago. They played it all of the time when it was out.Don't play it now, though. Thanks for posting this.Great power pop.
I was an AVID XRT fan when I was living in the area. I remember those heady days of the early 1990s.... I felt like nothing was impossible.
I remember listening to them on XRT back then, too. Great era!
I was there listening with you. I lived 4 blocks from their studio when they were broadcasting from Belmont/Central. This girl was sensory overload.

They sound like they’re from Manchester. They have a Charlatans vibe
