  • In this video, we get to work making a convenient home for our new 2000 watt power station. This will be a great addition to our vintage RV / vintage camper and will allow us to use more comforts of home when we're off grid. We also put it through some tests to see if it can keep up with being a power source for our workshop! We also test out an Oukitel 200w solar panel to keep the power flowing longer. Finally, we take to the road to make a delicious camping meal :-)

    I have to laugh every time you drive that thing. My parents had some of the same issues. My dad passed last year but he loved his camper. He was 89. My mom sold it to my sister and brother-in-law. My mom would hold her breath every time they took it out.

    The pickup in the distributor is a hall effect sensor, every time the metal tip passes past the sensor it creates a pulse. Eight tips, 8 pulses per every two crank revolutions. The pulse is picked up by the ignition module which then switches the coil off. Those wires you showed coming from the distributor carry the pulse and with a voltage meter on Hz you should read a frequency or if you can borrow an oscilloscope you should see a sign wave with all 8 peeks representing two crank revolution. The cam to crank is a 1 cam to 2 crank... Next time it dies, take a meter to it, if you don't see the pulses then you need change the hall effect sensor or change the distributor. If you haven't changed the sensor, you might consider it. Not expensive and is fairly easy.

    Love your videos! It was a surprise watching the first time when I realized you were Michiganders ("Trolls" albeit but won't hold that against you! Not to mention SVSU as I'm a Ferris grad Lol)! Love how you guys try, fail, try again and don't edit it out, so real! I once converted a big Jayco pop-up to all 120v except tail lights, runners etc years before the modern solar generators, compact gas generators etc. I had everything including a 7k BTU A/C, 2 fridges, 2 tvs/vcrs with multiple headphones for kids vs adult movie viewing, stereo, microwave, coffee maker of course, blender for Margaritas obviously, toaster, awning lights, etc all ran into a 3 breaker 30 amp system. Then made my own male/male cord to plug in because after spending plenty of time camping in Natty Forest campgrounds sans electric in "da Yoop", I would only camp at State Parks with electric, showers, modern toilets, etc lol (one can only crap over a log and hang food in trees to avoid bears for so long when young lol). The options for electrification now days are endless and really economical. Great videos!

    I like the idea of making the furnace cover a door for storing the power station. I think I will have to do that on my 72 Winnebago. I took the old furnace out.

    • @retrorevivals
      @retrorevivals  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It should make it easier than pulling it in and out of the main door. Really, we wanted a new door but couldn't find the right size so we used the old one and it seems to have turned out pretty good so far! Thanks for watching.

  • @2AZSUN
    @2AZSUN 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Who wouldn't watch to the end of one of your vids??? That's just plan crazy talk!!
    Look at you two, another sponsorship! 2K power station is the ideal addition to Harvey, for sure! That old furnace spot made for the ideal location as well. Might need some diff hinges to keep that door in place, but who can sweat the little details. Fun fact though, my aunt used to make my uncle instant coffee rolling down the road in their 1974 Dodge Travelcraft all the time, and it worked out just fine. That corningware teapot stayed on the old gas cooktop no problem. The more you know🌈....

    • @retrorevivals
      @retrorevivals  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Those hinges were crazy... possibly would work better if we spread them farther apart but not likely... and then we'd lose that symmetry so probably not worth it, lol. Really, we were going to cook spaghetti and drive but thoughts of the comment section blowing up about the dangers of having a gallon of boiling water back by the kids made us reconsider... well, that and the boiling water by the kids thing 😂. We could probably do a teapot for instant coffee though, your aunt had a good idea!

    Your best and most opportune time to use.A solar panel is during the height of the day in michigan usually between the hours of ten thirty a m 24 p m but you can charge a solar panel at any given time during the daytime.
    One other thing....
    You might already know by now, but your that that you made for the solar generator may slide out and bump that access door.
    If you drill a small hole and slide some wood dowels into the front lip of the opening will work as a stop .
    That way that tray won't be banging around when you drive.
    There are a few other channels who did the same when converting from propane.

    I would probably use a strap to secure the power station while you’re traveling. I also was wondering how you were going to cook the spaghetti while you were driving, lol! (Ps-We cook meals in the crock pot while we are traveling, so that we have lunch or dinner when we travel, and thought maybe you were going to do something in that line.) We also installed a DCDC charger in our truck camper and our 5th wheel to provide the extra charging power as our 7 pin connection was not very efficient in topping off our 600 aHrs of LifePO4 battery banks. The DCDC charger seems to be the MVP for our offgrid rv power systems. The solar helps keep the batteries topped off when we are not traveling, but the DCDC charger is the workhorse while we’re driving. It allows us to run our fridge and crockpot while we are traveling. And, that looks like a great spot to camp too! Love your videos and we enjoy traveling along, lol!

    You can add a max 500watt bifacial panel to charge should fit on the roof, might get 100watts in clouds (I get 105 from a 465). 500 watts 4.5 hours to charge and a cloudy 100watts 20 hrs. The 12v are usually weak at 30 watts 66 hours to charge. The ac input should charge 0 to 75% in 1 hour, then slows the charge at the top end. 2000w / 71w fridge should last 28 hours not 17hrs but you might find the display number change after it discharges for a while. It is not a huge battery so if you are using 1800-watt appliances might want to time it with ac charge times, it can only pull 1500w from your gen to charge so you could run a second plug to the shore plug with 1400 watts left over at 80% gen. I hope it helps being new to solar/powerstations. Nice build skills.

    Good informative video. I have a2002 Jeep Cherokee that takes three times before it starts found out it’s the EVap return hose on the gas tank and you have too drop the tank too fix it doesn’t leak just bad connection I guess so it starts on the third try instead of one sometimes two. The connection is where the hoses hook too the fuel pump

    • @retrorevivals
      @retrorevivals  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for the comment 😁. You make a good point. I believe our fuel tank vent hose is either partially clogged or crimped. It makes filling up difficult and may create a suction not allowing our fuel pump to work properly. I'll have to drop the tank to inspect.

    I think the RV needs a new owner so it could run better 😂

      We're nervous (about the shifting), but on the surface we look calm and ready 🎶 🍝🤢 👕

      We did the starter and alternator. Everything but the voltage regulator has been replaced. But I'm still working on it 😉

      I'm leaning toward a fuel tank vent issue. I've got to drop the tank to inspect.

    What a great sponsorship for you guys. I like the battery pack compartment. That's a cool idea. Tyler will get that starting problem sorted. Very fun video to watch all. the. way. to. the. end.

    Been driving on Michigan roads for over 50 years, they never seem to ever put any money into their roads!

      The crazy thing is you're right but somehow there's still always construction 🤯

    I was surprised you didn't plug your shore power cord into the solar battery. Then you would power everything without switching cords. Also, I would lock down the side tray so when you cornered on a bumpy road the solar battery wouldn't push the door open.

      It's definitely something that we could do although this particular one doesn't have the 30amp socket. Good thinking on adding something to stop that tray from sliding. We wanted to do that but just never enough time! Thanks for watching!

      That power station can't do 30 amps that's why there's no big plug. But using an adapter to plug into your shore power line and then being careful not to turn too many things on at the same time. You would learn what you could use and when to use them. I guess it would be the same the way you've already done it. You just wouldn't be switching cords. Love your videos. You guys are so goofy at times it's great. Fun channel to watch.
