We need to take care of a few last minute repairs and then we're off on a camping road trip adventure! Join us as we head to Lakeport State Park just north of Port Huron, Michigan. We make a few stops at some pretty cool roadside attractions along the way in Almont, MI and Emmett, MI. We also get to test out a new Ebike from Hovsco and had a blast!

I had a problem with my fresh water fill. It was old and disgusting, so I replaced it with a new one and when I went to fill up the water, it kept spitting water back out every 15 seconds or so. That happened until I watched a video that said the way to avoid that is to run a hose deep down INTO the water tank (I cut the adapter off the female end) and BA DA BING! No more water spittage! We just recently did a lot of work on our 24 year old class a, she now has new tie rods, new shocks, a tune up, an oil change, a new injector (#1 was bad, so we replaced it and all the seals on the other 9 to avoid any other problems), new air filter, and the old dingy yellowed headlights are now brand new! We are taking her out this weekend! Love watching you guys work on Harvey and taking the old fella out camping.

So glad you showed the problem and hopeful fix with the gas vent ! I have the same problem with my 1990 remod,,Took me about 15 minutes to fill a half full tank then I smelled gas for awhile after ! So TY very much guys .

Oh, crazy! It was such a whirlwind of a trip but we had a nice time with the time we had. It's so pretty over there. You'll be relieved to know we're much more boring in "real life" so you didn't miss much 😂😂😂
With that being a syringe, poyr your B12 in a cup and suck it out of the cup, then inject it.
The reason you can takevit apart is mainly for cleaning it.
I am a diabetic who has taken shots for 40 years.
That way you don't have a huge mess and most of it stays off the hands.

May I offer help with your stalling issue? I’ve worked on these “vintage” engines. From my experience, I can tell you that it does not sound like a ground issue. It’s primarily a fuel issue. It’s a combination of timing and carb settings. As a resolve, complete ALL of the following IN ORDER.
1) Rebuild the carb (if you haven’t already done so). DON’T attempt the other steps unless the carb has been rebuilt.
2) Then time you engine with a timing light that shows “total” degrees. VERY IMPORTANT: Time by total degrees ONLY. Set the total timing of 32 degrees at 3000 rpm with the advance can on the distributor plugged. (some say adjust to 36-38 total but NOT on a motor home which is very heavy. Too much advance will make the engine ping under load. Motor home 440 should be no more than 32 degrees total at 3000 rpm. You'll thank me when you're going up a hill 🙂
3) Now adjust both your fuel mixture screws: Turn in each screw until you can hear the motor slow down,.. then turn until it oppositely,..just until it runs smooth again. DO NOT add another ½ turn as some old timers suggest. That’s too rich. Just until it runs smooth.
4) Now do the other fuel mixture screw in the same way.
5) Now adjust your idle screw USING A TACH. (yes, use a tach) Adjust idle speed with the trani in park. Adjust to just under 700rpm. No more no less.
That’s it. You’re stalling issue should be fixed. 🙂
Let me say that I appreciate and agree with all of your suggestions. There are a couple of issues with the execution though. I have rebuilt the carb. Unfortunately the 2 mixture screws at the base of the carb are seized and won't allow for adjustment 😔. A new carb is in our future. The second major issue is that it i haven't been able to use a timing light to set the timing. The 440 with its size and proximity to the fan and shroud make it impossible to time correctly. I've adjusted it by ear. I will have to figure out a way to time it but haven't had any luck yet. They're will definitely be more updates down the road with these issues. Thanks for the comment!

That was the most fun ever going to Lakeport State Park!! It was a whirlwind trip, but worth every minute!! Breakfast might have been a little underwhelming. Was pretty much expecting some flapjacks, but apparently Jack had other plans that didn't include flapping. Oh well. Disappointing, but definitely survivable.
Have to say, was not expecting Tyler to get his loins covered in gas with the air hose move. Didn't seem like enough air to force that much gas out. Live and learn, and certainly don't do what these Michiganders do, for sure!! Holy cow, they'll set your pants on fire if you aren't careful.

I think the vent tube with restrictor keeps the tank at atmospheric pressure when the cap is on.

Recently sold my 1980 Ford Okanagan C-Class. 18 ft, mint condition. Similar issue, kept stalling, 3 mobile mechanics later and my mechanic found 2 pin holes in the fuel line. Best of luck!

The vent hose and fill pipe are sagging before the tank. It could be acting like a p-trap.
The other vent hose is normal.

Ok just some helpful hints we do in our camper, we fill a 5 gallon bucket with water, about a 1 c cheap dishwasher liquid and a capful of liquid laundry detergent when we pack up to leave. After dumping at the dump station we pour a bit down the sink drain the rest of the bucket down the toilet. As you drive home it sloshes around and helps to clean the tank, the cascade helps with errr fatty deposits from solids and the soap helps to loosen solids for the bottom. It’s not fun but you can empty the soapy mix back into the same bucket when you get home and dump it down your toilet or hit the dump station not far from home if you are lucky enough to have one. We always keep games in the camper for rainy days, Yahtzee, UNO, a small dry erase board and markers stored under a bed to play Pictionary. While our kids were growing up every time we went camping we always all went out and found a large rock from each place to add to our garden at home. They are all grown up now but can tell, you where many of these came from.
We do the same, but we also add a couple large bags of ice down the toilet, which helps scrub around the soapy water to break up stuff on the bottom of the tank.
Great ideas! We need to get better about black tank treatment after we empty it out. We'll have to try your suggestion. The rock idea is cool too, we're starting to realize what everyone kept telling us about kids growing up so quickly, it's crazy! We're enjoying creating these memories with them while we can! Thank you 😁. I did change the ballast resistor. That didn't solve the issue. I have since upgraded to a GM HEI ignition module. I'm still troubleshooting the issue.

It looks like the full tube goes downhill and then up a little to the tank. If this is true and the fill tube puddles in the low spot, it would make the fill nozzle think it is full. Maybe if you unhooked the fill hose just below the end and cut a little off and reconnected it, it may not puddle but run into the tank freely.

It could be. We typically don't have to wait until the engine cools very much for it to restart. I'll check the fuel line routing and maybe insulate the lines on the fuel pump. Thanks for the comment 😁
