I am interested why Yamaha engineers put coolant pump inside the engine (R1 98-14). Oil is at much higher temperature then coolant therefore transfers heat to coolant. Another thing is when pump seal is worn you must do all of this that you show in this video. Other manufacturers have coolant pumps outside the engine (gsxr1000, zx10r, CBR1000rr). Maybe there is some advantage in this pump install arangement, i dont know, i am mechanical engineer myself but i dont have any idea. And these R1-s, especially 04-14 heats a lot to the point that your nuts will boil.

hi friend please I have a question at the beginning you say if you have a coolant leak you just have to replace the gasket (the one underneath the pinion) my question is: I'm leaking water from under the oil sump vent.
I dismantled everything except the clutch and this component that I see in your video (the one under the pinion) I dismantled the entire sump etc etc, as long as the water comes out of the vent under the sump. only water no oil. what should I do?

@@SUPSGARAGE I bought the bike a year ago and haven’t put more than 200 miles on it. I put new clutch and brake levers on it and adjusted the cable to spec at the lever. I never checked it at the clutch adjustment. You think it’s maybe staying slightly disengaged or something? I did have the outer most steel plate with black burn marks around the outside of it. The plate that is offset for the pressure plate. It’s just odd the noise gets significantly quieter once the bike is warm.

About to change the internal water pump seal. Question, instead of tearing out the clutch assembly, why couldn't you just unbolt the oil pump sprocket? Is the bolt too long to remove inside the engine case?

@@SUPSGARAGE so my clutch basket had some decent notches in it and I’d have some erratic behavior with the clutch. I cleaned all that up with a file and am going to replace all the clutch discs and Steel plates. You think that could cause a whine noise that goes away once warm? I replaced my stator flywheel with an rm stator version and I shoulda t have cuz I noticed it was machined slightly different. Did it anyways and I lost oil pressure for like 10-15 seconds and had bearing noises. Shut it off pulled it apart. Was installed right so I put an oem one on and it works fine. Replaced the bearings in the cover and the case as well. Still had whine noise. Took to dealer and they said it was also installed right and that they thought it was cam drive whine noise but offered no further info. Paid $400 to have them tell me I installed the parts right. Lol. Anyways. Think I should throw it together with the new clutch and check to see if the whine noise is gone? I’d just hate to have to pull it all back apart while I’m already here. And my oil pump turns with some resistance. I know it should have some but idk. Feels a little more than it should.
