Train Simulator 2015 Tutorial - Adding UK Signals to your route

  • This is a first attempt at a tutorial on using the signalling system in Train Simulator to add signals to your route. I'll be honest and say it's not great, but it was always only intended as a first cut - if I don't do something then it'll never happen.
This tutorial covers how the signalling system in TS works in lots of technical detail, including tips for scenario authors on how to avoid some common pitfalls that can really mess up your scenarios.

Very very helpful for a newbie! Thank you for your tutorial, it really gave me some basics that I was missing. Now I really must do more studying!

Can you do a video on UK Semaphore Signaling?

Excellent, just what I needed to know for a route I'm working on.

Huzzah! I was lucky to find a tutorial with the same DLC as mine! Guess we bought the same TS version :)

Is there any possibility on a tutorial with semaphore signals?
I have been trying to follow this as best I can in an attempt to make the Riviera 50s signals to work on my route, so far, none have worked.

Do the principles apply to semaphore signals? and how do distance signals work? can you get them to cover the whole block like in real life? Thanks matt, great tutorial.

Hey Matt! I'm using the UKPro signals which I believe I got from the Portsmouth Direct line extension. I've been self educating myself by using other routes, however I've noticed many signals, particularly on the NWC route that have -9 in the speed limit box to a link, I wondered if you knew what that meant? It crossed my mind that it minuses 9 off the speed limit of where link 0 is placed, but that is not really realistic on UK routes and would give rather odd speed limit values.
Another question I have is, if you have 1 siding off the mainline, is it possible to program the call on indicator so that it illuminates when the path is set to the siding? I believe with the Just Trains modern signals, you can enter an asterisk (*) into the character column. I actually found this setup at Kidderminster for the Chiltern railways reversing siding.

This ain't confusing! I am trying to make a UK route, but it's hard to do that when you live in the USA,

Hi Matt , I have put down track on my own scenario and I would like to know how to set the speeds on the mainline and sidings. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I really struggle making switches. My tracks never want to join and when I add signals it crashes the game lol.

Hello Matt, as I'm making a steam age route, I'll be using Semaphores instead of colour lights, four questions come to mind:
    1) can you mix the two ?, can't think of a semaphore signal that went by bufferstops in real life, so hiding a colour light is probably best
    2) Does a signal with both a home and distant arm work in the same way as a 3 colour aspect signal ?
    3) As at one terminus I have 6 platforms converging into double track, is there an easy way to signal this without plenty of 0's and 1's from the various platform exit signals overlapping and creating havoc ?
    4) do distant signals basically work like repeaters in colour light signalling ?

Call-on indicator. It's that little triangular set of lights, that look like a ground signal, under the main signal. They are designed to allow trains into the block even though it's occupied. They're mainly found outside of stations as they are mostly used when 2 units need to connect together in a platform to form a longer train. To use one in-game, you just place the signal like a normal one. Then when driving a train, if the signal illuminates red, you press TAB (in real life they could call up the signalling centre to request to pass or the signalling centre might illuminate it already if they know of the movements). You will then get a message saying "Request to pass signal denied" or "Request to pass signal approved" or something like that. If it says approved, then the call on indicator should illuminate with 2 diagonal dots. The main signal will still be red however the call on indicator overrides this so the TPWS grid will also be disabled. At this point you can proceed, but be aware that the block is occupied so proceed with caution and prepare to stop, like in a platform, before the other unit.

Is there UK gantry signals in the default section of signals. If so, can you name them for me. Thanks!

    • @carailphotography

Ones beginning with G . He called them ground signals but that was a little woopsy. You simply need to adjust them to the right height once you place them

I get the principle about link zero and link 'n' ... makes sense, obviously. But how do you tackle the situation of say, a siding exiting on to a main line? Eg. I have a trailing point on the main line, I use a H 1t signal on the main line to protect the point, placing the link zero at the signal and link 1 beyond the point. Ok, that works fine. But i need a signal on the siding, too. So if I now use a siding signal (1t) here, with link zero at the signal and link n after the point, then in at least one way, I'm doing exactly the wrong thing... on the main line, I'll hit the home signal's link zero, then (if placed just after the trailing point) its link 1. But then I'll hit the siding signal's link 1
.. or am i using the wrong signals here? ( I'm using semaphores)

    • @carailphotography
      @carailphotography 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

You need to place your signals before the point where the siding enters the mainline. So on the actual mainline, you need a 1T signal, with how you described it already, with link 0 before the points next to the signal, and link 1 after the points. Now do the same on the siding, link 0 before the points next to the signal and link 1 after the points, on the mainline in your situation. And that should be all set up then!

Hello, just a quick question. Is it at all possible to use LUA to force signals to change in scenarios? Instead of TAB signals and Frozen signals please?

Hi! Can u do some guide for US signal's (Cajon pass)? How about double junction's with crossing? How about single crossing?

This game is so broken, no matter where I place signals they just show red
