When I fly Club Europe, it’s usually because the ticket was bought on Amex/Barclaycard redemption. And so, for a ticket that’s literally free, what’s on offer here is pretty good. Lounge access, priority check in is particularly nice if you are flying out on weekends or evenings. On board, it’s nice to know that you can eat and drink whatever you want and not pay for it, I usually get the kosher meal because the quality of food is superior and portions bigger
yes, BA redemptions in Europe are pretty good! it's one of the remaining good intra-regional redemptions actually (the other one being Singapore). I have an amex european card so I don't get the best options such as the american card.
I fly BA club around twice a month. Here’s a top tip at T5. Don’t go to either of the two BA lounges in the main terminal. Hop on the short transit to B gates and go to the lounge there. It’s far superior.
@@RobertClaeson I still prefer the lounge at B gates over the 1st Lounge. Although the First Wing is nice for security etc. I’ve only had the pleasure of the Concorde Room twice and that’s quite special. One one occasion in Dec 2020 we were stuck in there for 10 hours (due to lockdown)
We travel business short haul using points. We currently travel with a 1 yr old, and you can fold the middle seat tray down and effectively have a free seat for the little one to lay down.
I would have thought they would be quite generous with the Avios - possibly an amount close to the value of the flight. They are very fair about compensation.
@andrewclark8630 yes they are, I had a recent overnight flight in their new club suites and the crew noticed me fiddling with a faulty door and recommended I make a complaint for avios. I got 10,000.
It has happened on maybe 4 occasions in the last 10 years. It’s when there is a mass disruption event (ATC failure last summer) meaning occupying the middle Club seat gets more passengers on.
if they put someone in the empty seat I'd be mad, both me and the person I usually ride with are on the bigger side, a normal seat just isn't enough, and the idea of encroaching on the neighbor's already cramped space is horrible, so we gladly pay to have that empty seat between us, if they still put someone there it will be an unbearably difficult situation for everyone involved
I’m fairly new to BA. You mentioned other lounges like Cathay and Qantas. If you’re flying BA Executive Club can you access Cathay and Qantas lounges as well? Thank you.
This is my most used terminal and I fly BA business 1-3 times a month back and forward from London to Italy for my businesses. 1. Terminal 5 is nice for this 1 main reason if you’re a gold member with them. You get to use the first class check in area with your own security right into the lounge to avoid the crowd. 2. There are 3 types of lounges in terminal 5 for BA. The Concorde which I’m told is actually good. I haven’t used it yet. It’s only for 1st class long haul. The other is a slightly less crowded gold member and I think one world emerald. Then there’s the lounge you went to which is crowded as often with no seats. Not bad going solo but terrible if you have a partner or family. You will almost never get to sit together. The food and experience is pretty much the same but less crowded in the gold lounge. 3. The food is terrible. The breakfast at the lounge is the same food they give you if you have a morning flight which is stupid because I just ate the same exact stuff in the lounge. British food is already not my cup of team but what they have is not edible to me. 4. Service is not great. Rarely do they even acknowledge you as a gold or emerald member now. The only reason I keep gold is to get the front row with more leg room because I’m tall and need extra leg room. It sucks you can’t book front row unless you’re gold so you can’t even buy more leg room if you wanted.
Congratulations! This achievement is well deserved. Watching you feels like watching a real person and friend. You are real, and relative (both of you) and you bring so much joy! Thank you for the gift you've given us with you both.
Got more excited than I should have when you did a piece outside the Plaza Premium Lounge I went into at T5 when I flew to Istanbul a month or so ago. It wasn't anything special - the lounge, that is; Istanbul was stunning. Oh, and Bob Mortimer is a legit national treasure - not sure how his humour translates into books, but he's absolute comedy royalty here. If you want some gentle watching for a flight, see if you can download his Gone Fishing series - I don't care about catching fish, but his relationship with fellow comedian Paul Whitehouse and the stunning countryside make it an exceptional watch.
Question, does the smooth jazzy background music impact the viewers perception of the product. Calm, sophisticated? Is that a real reflection of what is on offer? The bus to the stand, the crowded lounge, the so-so difference between this and the coach product?
The Thursday Murder Club series by Richard Osman is excellent. There are four books and you will be hooked!! Steven Spielberg bought the rights in 2020 but Covid hit.
Great video! 😃We've never had a bad flight experience with BA staff, they have always great for us. We always use Avios to purchase our Club Europe short haul reward flights. This Easter we flew to Rome (4 of us) for just £4, treated my Dad with the Club check-in, fast track security and his first ever lounge experience - all for £1 per person. Plus - seats at the front of the plane so you hop on and off the plane quickly. Granted, Club Europe is basically an economy seat with the middle blocked off so I wouldn't recommend paying with cash. That being said it's really unfair to compare it to a long-haul business class flight and you should really try to manage your expectations. If you're going to compare anything to Virgin Upper, then compare Singapore Airlines Business which wipes the floor with it.
T5 PRET TIP: @Dan when you were near the Plaza Premium Lounge if you had turned around there is a secret mini Pret at T5 that never has a queue! 😮 Hope it helps! You can see it in the distance at 3:58
A lot depends how much someone spends on a Club Europe fare. There are some good deals to be found if they book well in advance. In those cases, Club Europe is worth it. Lounge access, priority check-in, security, boarding and I've generally found BA FAs to be very friendly and more than happy to hand out [alcoholic] drinks. The other main plus is significantly more Tier Points IF someone is trying to reach BA status (Silver or Gold). The biggest disappointment is the seat - no extra leg room (except Row 1). In fact an exit row economy seat is more comfortable!
I don't think any European airline has short haul business that's worth it. The seats are just economy seats. And if you have status, you get lounge access anyway.

Lounge food in London (I haven’t been to Concorde) seem to provide generous amounts of food with the worst possible ingredients. It’s like they all use the same awful supplier who are adept at cost cutting and providing empty calories.
Club Europe is good if the flight is after 12 noon so you can use the lounge, a 4 hour flight to say the canary Islands, has gone up from £130 ( from) to £179( from) simply not worth it...
You're pronouncing it wrong. Pret sounds like pray. It means ready. Basically in French Pret de Manger is ready to eat. And it's awesome. Some great health options.
The food is terrible for what you have paid. Penny pinching by the airline. BA pays around £6 to the caterers for each of those meal trays and hot plate.
Not worth flying to Europe form lhr on vacation, only gatwick Luton and stansted especially ba euroflyer from Gatwick, worth it, depends where you flying from, easyJet is option for Paris or Rome routes so as Ryanair. Wizzair is largest European flights from London.

Very timely video, as I was just considering redeeming my points for a trip to Athens in Club Europe class. I'm quite surprised how everyone says it's worth it. If you're not fussed about lounges and have the patience to wait for the boarding of a narrowbody, there is nothing on offer here that's better than any random European budget airline. I don't think it's worth it even when it's fully paid with Avios. Converting them to Qatar Avios to fly a long haul would be much better value, as their economy class is miles better than BA's pretend business.
Always have a good flight with BA and Club is generally worth it. Of course VA is going to be better - Europe is a short haul frequent flight market, it’s not a luxury market and never will be. It’s cheap and cheerful. As much as I love your content food I have to always ignore given your food preferences (not bad but I do think that it alienates a lot of the possible food options) as well as so many reviewers seemingly ignorant to this being a British airline - it will have typical British food which many don’t like but hey ho. I’ve always found service great, food is fine (I don’t expect it to be amazing) and drinks free flowing. If you bother to build a rapport with crew it’s even better.
All business and first tickets leaving UK from 1st April next year will be charged extra passenger duty fees, May change after general election who knows.
Doubt if APD will change. It's an easy revenue raiser for any government and let's face it the current and next government needs all the money it can get.
I will never fly with BA again. Had the worst experience in the world going to New York with them at New Year last year. Coupled with a really bad flight to Brussels last summer I am totally done with them. Terminal 5 despite being a nice terminal is awful. Unorganised chaos. I travel from Aberdeen to London Heathrow every week on British Airways. It’s the exact same plane type they use for Europe and I always go on Club Europe/Business Class. To be quite frank, the lounge at Heathrow Airport terminal five (both lounges) are very overcrowded. The selection of food is very limited and the service quality is poor. On the plane, some of the staff are just not helpful until I make a fuss about it. Honestly, Its better to fly with easyJet because at least they have a slightly better customer service.

Non-stop indeed. Lol. I dislike BrBritish Airways anymore. Is BA Club Europe Worth it? Hell NO! Whoever designed the soft product really needs to find a new vocation in life. Food is always shockingly bad. However, I'll be reviewing it myself in about 8 weeks time (again). I suspect I'll produce another twenty-minute rant on TH-cam about how bad it was.

None of the gates are more than 15 mins away from the furthest parts of T5. You’ll get your gate shown 50 mins before departure.
Most BA short haul go from the T5A gates so you’re talking utter tosh.
