Emirates Upgraded A380 - World’s Largest Aircraft Retrofit Program

  • Emirates is upgrading its popular A380 fleet! The largest known retrofit program in the industry is well underway at Emirates Engineering. I toured inside the A380 superjumbo during its maintenance.
    Project Phoenix oversees 67 A380s and 53 Boeing 777s being refurbished. Concerning the A380, a total of 728 first class, 5,092 business class, 1,608 new premium economy, and 24,000 economy seats are involved in the procedure. The program began in November 2022 and is set to be wrapped up by May 2025.
    Emirates Engineering explained that every time an A380 comes in for a six-year or 12-year check. All the seats, lavatories, galleys, and monuments are ejected to leave the entire interior bare for floor panel check. When the materials are removed, Emirates Engineering will replace or refurbish them to keep the cabin in pristine condition. After seeing an A380 under heavy maintenance check, I toured a refurbished A380 that is ready in service to see the difference.
    Next, I visited the cabin interior seat shop where you can find all the seats came in bare skeleton form. The engineer also demonstrated how to inflate safety evacuation slides in just 6 seconds. Last, some of the old seat covers and materials are being turned into collectibles and memorabilia!
    Emirates is looking to keep at least 90 A380s in the air by the 2030s and plans to fly the A380 until the 2040s.

      I have no problems with Sam's videos being "too kind" to the airlines (or some of them), as long as it's obvious that this is a collaboration effort from both.
      It's okay to allow the carriers to put their best foot forward, and Sam does so very appropriately. There are other content creators to advise on the failings of carriers - it's only fair also. to show their efforts and successes. Sam does that brilliantly.

      Aviation travel has never been this safe, affordable and widespread all over the world. Airlines compete for seat sales, but still I see a lot of unjustified complaints from people who have no clue of the cost to run an airline. Yes just like any business profit is ideal and that is why you see the mess at Southwest or Spirit or any regional carriers

    After what we saw in Japan, the slides inflating in such a short time is critical. I'm a retired airline pilot. I never used them as pilot or passenger. They were/are so lucky, only 3 of the 8 slides were used, they got everyone off! Amazing, great training by JAL! And the sustainability of reusing materials for shoes and bags, well done Emirates!

    The A-380 is such a nice departure from the twin engine cookie cutter aircraft of today. There once was a time when there was such diversity in the types of aircraft. 3 engines, 4 engines and some twin engines.
    My favorite aircraft , the 757, has a uniqueness amongst the two engine planes. Then the 747 and finally the A380. Thank you Sam for all your hard work. Cheers brother, Stay Strong!

    • @jimsturt
      @jimsturt 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      You can thank Covid for saving the a380. It was retired for good but the boom in travel demand after the pandemic coupled with the wait times for new aircraft made it economical again for airlines to dust them off and bring them back into the lineup!

    • @billhart9832
      @billhart9832 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @swampfuel20, the 757 is my least favorite from passenger standpoint. My perspective, as a broad-shouldered moderately tall (6' or 183 cm) man flying from Minneapolis to Dusseldorf, 7-1/2 hours, even in an exit row 'C' aisle seat, I dare you to say this is comfortable when my 'B' seat was a body builder heading to Iraq was broader by 4 inches than me and the window seat was overfilled by a nearly spherical woman. When I had to be seated I was half in the aisle! When the sign was turned off me and the body builder were in the galley or Lav area with the flight crew understanding of our situation. NO! From a passenger standpoint the 757 is NOT a pleasant experience. Twin aisle long-haul ONLY for me!
      For me, upper deck 747 was the best, better than first class! 2x2 4 rows, exit gap, 4 rows more , personal stowage next to the window instead of overhead. Your own attendant, galley, 2 lavs, and additional carry-on stowage accessible by the stairs. Unbeatable service and isolation from the other 300-400 passengers below and nearly unnoticeable engine noise. 2 to 4 times a year across the Pacific for the first decade of the 21st century, 12- 15 hours... life was good.

    My favourite plane (the A380) gets another 20 years of service. Greatest news to hear today! I wish there was an MK2 version of the A380, but I understand it's not possible. Emirates have kept this airplane afloat while the others complain about it being unprofitable.

  • @recration
    @recration 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    The new A380 is absolutely gorgeous. Best plane I've ever been on. I had the privilege to fly on it last week to Dubai and the business class is simply stunning. Especially, the new 1-2-1 from the old 2-3-2 configuration makes it so most of the time you don't even have a neighbor and you have direct isle access. Idk how Emirates is planning to cover the costs with less business class seats, but I can assure them that it 100% is worth the money. Love that Emirates is keeping the A380 alive. The bar area is incredible too. There is nothing like it in the skies. Nothing comes close to the A380 in terms of spaciousness and comfort. The cabin crew was simply so nice too. We even got to take some pictures with them.

    Great tour and really interesting reuse of consumables - like seat covers to backpacks and bags. Really great ideas and good to see. Thanks for sharing Sam. :-)

    This is what Sam is the best at, The behind the scenes. Shows as to how much manpower and work is required for us to enjoy the finished product. Remarkable indeed.

    I've never commented on a video before, but this is worth it, so amazing and insightful. Makes me rethink that the ticket prices are actually fair. Amazing video 👍

    Absolutely great exclusive video. Yet again, you are continuing to show that no, you DONT do flight reviews anymore, so people can stop claiming that you do biased flight reviews, because you havent done for years. Your videos are exclusive documentary content.

    Truly massive refit project at the pinnacle of the airline industry. Love to see it. This is analogous to the classic BA 744 D-check video.
