Buck Perry was a legend, don dickson was still spreading the word of fishing bars and contact points and structure fishing deep water is home of the fish. Nice to see someone knows who buck perry is. Thanks for the content
JWheels, i fish 30ft visibility water and using a underspin with Free loader, caught 18 from the bank as it was too windy to bring the Hobie PA. Also fishing topwater using a spook. Wind blown point drops 5ft to 30ft fishing the color line. Im stocked up on Free loaders (Gizzard Shad) FN awesome bait!
Hey Jacob i mainly use shimano reels but i do have a Bass Pro Shops Johnny Morris Tech reel and i love it, i use it paired with a duckett ghost med heavy and it’s my go-to chatter bait rod
Thanks Jacob, Just moved out to Bull Shoals Lake (retired here) and I'm finding out that it fishes almost the same as my "home" lake in N. Calif. (Lake Oroville), down to the clear water. Your tips, I'm finding a very valuable in learning this area. I've been writing your suggestions down, rigging my rods up, and fishing the ways you're explaining with good succuss. Give me another year and I'll start fishing tournaments again! Just the small/local stuff. Thanks again!!
Hollow core led works good for your drop shot. Cut what ya need, if it snags up, it pulls off the end of your line, crimp a new one on in seconds and keep on fishing.
All of my bait casters are Shimanos. Love them. Threw a light drop shot this afternoon on my Curado BFS rig. Snagged and broke off four whole drop shot rigs. Got bluegill taps and missed a small bass, but didn’t catch anything on the drop shot. Caught one small bass on a small jig head with a swim bait. Still more fun than my couch! 😁 I need to Texas rig my drop shot set up next time. I was nose hooking a Roboworm with a circle hook today. Also still figuring out my tag end length for drop shot. I fish shallow farm ponds from the bank.
Good video! Would like to see you do one of these videos using Lake Dardanelle as the model. It's a highland reservoir but fishes more like a lowland. Riverrun, muddy water, clear water, grass, and rocks offers up a little bit of everything.
My dad was a student of buck Perry. He would travel and take his classes. His book was the first fishing book I read as a kid. My dad burnt "deep water is the home of the fish" in my brain lol
Smart Move with the new Series rods. I switched to a 7'2" graphite rod as well for the chatterbaits. More sensitivity, lighter, better hook sets. Found the Composites to be a little to soft for me and they are not as sensitive as graphite. I'll definitely pick one of your designs up and give em' a try.
Loved this Jacob, thank you. I'll be going out many times this month, I'll let you know what worked here (I'm in Mexico now, waters will be going up, waiting for rain and vegetation to come back). By the way, I always appreciate when you specify the line or lines you are using, I'm still unsure at times.
I really enjoy watching your videos. Your enthusiasm towards fishing is infectious, I can wait to get on the water. Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge.
Love your vids and am stoked you actually covered a Missouri lake! I’m from there and have absolutely been crushing on the Ned blt here. But will soon be bustin out the dropshot with either a roboworm or freeloader! Great seeing you in eufala best of luck on the chowan river!
The blt ned is revolutionary in my opinion, it’s a lot like the dropshot in where you can fish it . And I fish middle Tennessee, old hickory very pressured lakes and a light weight a loop knot and a green pumpkin blue fleck Ned blt you can fish right Beside someone that’s throwing a normal Texas rig/jig and flat out catch them . And not just small ones I’ve caught multiple over 4-5 this year . Absolutely love them
Buck perry would crush it with the control of those dt crankbaits. Otherwise he'd be trolling those channel swings. Just read that book this week at age 35. Hope his knowledge doesn't disappear. Thanks Jacob for your videos!
I've watched this now 3 times. All the way to the end. I didn't catch it the 1rst 2 times but you mentioned hot water find them up super shallow. Best oxygen this time if year. I've struck out last 2 times fishing 6 to 12ft of water. They killed the grass and wasn't holding fish. We hit a few banks toward the end and jumped a few. Going shallow hoping. Quick question. Do you use alot of two tone plastics. For instance just bought the green pumpkin/ blue pearl cleanup craw. Liked the color but not sure it's better than just green pumpkin. Let me know please sir. Thanks for all your info. I've learned a ton.
Great video and I caught a 8 and 1/2 ponder carolina rigging a ned blt on a point offshore which was the biggest bass I have caught on that lake uh deadly because it floats!
Going to,try the drop shot and the Mayor is my favorite swim bait by far! Caught a lot of fish this year on it. Thanks great video! See y’all at Chowan !
JW, awesome video with great information. In my day i leaened most of my techniques from Bassmaster and other magazines. I wish i had youtube. Only you can catch a bass with one cast, live, demonstrating cadence and reel speed for a crank. Maybe it was the pre-cast teaser of how to load the cast that fired up the bass😂
Sorry Jacob. I've tried alot of jig heads. Your vmc recommendation is top notch. I've never used a swimbait and caught more fish then I have with the hybrid Swim head. Definitely #1 by far.
It’s the c map card. You can adjust your water shading from shallow to deep. Some lowrance have the maps preloaded. The newer units do. I have the older and had to get the card. Well worth it though
Daiwa and Shimano make up 99% of my reels. The zillion, steez a, bantam and metanium are my favs. With the recent price hike on the Steez, I feel the Zillion is the best value in Daiwa's lineup. The core solid metaniums are hard to beat as well. Can't go wrong with any of them. In general I don't have one I like more than the rest, they're all good and some better for specific things. Edit: I've got 2 different model Bates that are nice as well but I can't speak to durability yet. Seems like they will be though. If I was going to go outside of those, I would just order some Doyo stuff. No point in paying for the name of Lew's or Abu when they're both made by Doyo. Also, given the acquire, with you being with Rapala seems like 13 would be sensible. Also the Picasso straight shooter, with the updated snagless sally style wire weedguards, is the best readily available swim jig I've found. Especially in wood, that guard keeps it from hanging up if it rolls when brought over wood. Good luck on Chowan! On the loop knot, double the line then tie it.
Bro I passed you this morning in NC headed eastbound!!! Guessing you're headed toward Raleigh maybe?? Not sure what your next stop is but good luck man!!
A old man I rented a storage from and talked about fishing with for like 2 hours just gave me a Duckett Micro magic 7’6 extra heavy I know your a duckett guy what can I use this rod for. Frog?
I don't understand what I'm doing wrong with the Freeloader. 🤷♂️ I have panoptix and I've thrown them at spotted bass on Lanier for months now and just watching them either run from it or ignore it. I think I've caught one dink off a Freeloader. WHAT'S THE DEAL!??? And when do you decide to switch from the Freeloader to a regular swimbait???
I know who buck perry was ! He invented the lure ( called a spoon plug ) I have the book describing how to troll that lure !!!!! Way to go Jacob tell us about it Bro..!!!
Fish will bite anything when they are hungry does not have to be a certain bait.Bring your rubber bait to NC river next weekend Good luck brother at the Chowan River.
I am so happy June is already here you don't know how sighting I am now it's here cuz I really would love to get myself a nice looking bass and I just want to let you know that I got your new Bates I got your letter fancy crawdad
I started with bass pro reels they fall apart ,went all lews after they were great at first but went down hill after they sold it, im now a shimano guy for prob 5 years now have a few daiwas to they are pretty good to but shimano dominates my arsenal
Yes I know who that is Brooke Perry I know who you are talking about I do the same thing details you are telling me and thank you very much for your mentioning that name

The Freeloader has been producing good here in Maryland for me. Thanks for the tips!!! Always put them to good use

I have shimanos but I will say the new Abu reels and Kistler chromium reels are legit.
Try a weedless Neko hook or weedless wacky hook for the dropshot. Helped with my hookup ratio and reduce the snags a ton.
@@jasondadudetoo4176 I picked up some weedless wacky hooks yesterday. I will try them for dropshot. Thanks.
@@darkhorsefive0I picked up the o-ring and caught a nice sized bass near farm land canals, good luck!
Buck Perry’ book educated me on how fish relate to structure. The first time i used a spoon plug trolling I caught a 4 and a 6.
Man u need to try the Lews SKipping&Pinching reel w that shallow spool!! Plenty of line for long casts

Try the Bates reel! I love mine...built like a tank but super light. Smooth as butter!!

I still have Buck Perry's Spoonplugging book that my uncle gave me. It was almost like the Bible growing up
Shimano Curado for me
I really enjoy watching your videos. Your enthusiasm towards fishing is infectious, I can wait to get on the water. Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge.
Where can I get a frog like that. I found it with white in the legs also, but can't find it without the white. That color is awesome

I’ve caught good fish on every Crush City bait but the BLT.
I’ve caught several on the BLT on Lanier spotted bass love them.
Great video. So much good information. Can’t wait to try the drop shot. I live in Louisiana and have never fished a drop shot.
Buck perry would crush it with the control of those dt crankbaits. Otherwise he'd be trolling those channel swings. Just read that book this week at age 35. Hope his knowledge doesn't disappear. Thanks Jacob for your videos!

Any tips for fishing at Giest? I fish there often.
Jacob I'm liking the Shimanos, just trying to decide which reels for your rods 😂
Great video Jacob, really appreciate the nuggets! Now I will try the drop shot.
Yes, I'm familiar with Buck Perry's spoon bill system.
Thanks for all that you do for bass fishing.
Always a good video. I catch lots of fish doing your stuff.
Gonna have to give the swim jig a try this summer!
You think you can do a video on off shore fishing without FFS
Absolutely
@WheelerFishing much appreciated
I like the jdm Shimano metaniums and diawa steez
Yep the may Flys are going off in north Georgia Hartwell Russell and Clark Hill
Sorry Jacob. I've tried alot of jig heads. Your vmc recommendation is top notch. I've never used a swimbait and caught more fish then I have with the hybrid Swim head. Definitely #1 by far.
Love thses videos! Reels - 13 fishing makes wonderful reels. Not sure about the durability though.
Ive caught a handful of bass. The big crappie like it too.
Curado 150 for sure
What is that mapping on his lowrance? My lowrance hds map doesn’t look like that. What card do I need for those maps?
It’s the c map card. You can adjust your water shading from shallow to deep. Some lowrance have the maps preloaded. The newer units do. I have the older and had to get the card. Well worth it though
When are you going to make a freeloader style hover bait with it poured with the weight and hook already installed?

He won the BPT stop at Table Rock in 2019
The father of structure fishing,Buck Perry. I went to his big jamboree down there on Chick. Lake every fall

Outstanding video JW, always enjoy your info.
Ive been having great luck over in party cove near harrison bay st park. hope to see you out on the Chick soon, have a great tourney this week 🛎👑
Shimano bantam is smooth and a tank it ways a bit more but it feels unfazed by anything
Great content and helpful information on crankbait and free loader.
I notice you mainly fish spinning reels when you worm fish. Is there a reason not to use a bait caster for Texas rigging or drop shot rigging?
I just started using the Shaky Head and I keep missing the fish - What am I doing wrong??? Can you help???
Great video as I’m in the north and pond hop this was very helpful thanks!
Bro I passed you this morning in NC headed eastbound!!! Guessing you're headed toward Raleigh maybe?? Not sure what your next stop is but good luck man!!

And when do you decide to switch from the Freeloader to a regular swimbait???
As I listen to you, I remember or reminded of the JETTER BUG. Ha
