    I've always wanted to perfect this part of my fishing game. Once it gets past 10 ft I always struggle. I have so many DTs from shallow to deep. One of my favorite pros teaching me something I want to learn. Great video!

      It is intimidating, but well worth it to learn. The DT series is the way to go!

      @@MassReelFishing my buddy in the Army introduced me to them and I haven't looked back since. Rapala is definitely my confidence bait, specifically the DT. And I've always wanted to perfect it. Seeing a school and not being able to fire them up is very frustrating. Especially during tournaments in the heat of summer.

      @@paulhorton7792 It takes a lot of time and practice to consistently be able to mark a school/structure and set up to fish it properly. Some days I feel like I have it figured out. Then the next day I feel completely lost. It really shows you how good guys like Wheeler really are.

      @@MassReelFishing it's crazy how consistent they are. Especially when fishing pressured waters. I haven't been fishing my whole life. Probably have about 6 or 7 years of total fishing experience. Never went as a kid as I bounced around the foster care system. But after a tour in Afghanistan my buddy saw me struggling and introduced me. I mean this whole heartily, fishing saved my life. It's my way of decompressing. Even if I'm fishing a local tournament I just love being on the water. I can feel my mind relaxing. Guys like Mr Wheeler here just make it easier for me to try and perfect the thing I love the most. And just in general the fishing community all the way up to the superstars like Mr Wheeler just seem to be nice guys. I remember going back to Fort Drum and passing Oneida Lake and seeing a BassMaster going on and I stopped and met people like KVD, Skeet Reese and a few others and just how down to earth they were shocked me.

I fish Oklahoma and Texas 99% of the time and I love that I can still learn from guys like obviously You, Monroe, B-Lat, Scott Martin and Connell. Thanks for helping educate anglers of all ages and I look forward learning from you guys as the years go on. In my opinion you guys are at the same level if not even better than my old favorites that I grew up watching like Roland, Dance, Grigsby and Parker. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and not forgetting about us regular guys. It is very appreciated.

    In addition to the longer rods for casting deep cranks, it is important to pick a proper reel. If you are going to have dedicated deep crank set ups select a casting reel with a large line capacity. You want a reel for deep cranking that holds 160 yards of 12 lb. test (.10 to .013 diameter line ) This type reel will shine for casting distance. Rob

    Hey Jacob, thanks for taking the time and putting out videos like these. It really means a lot to anglers such as myself who are sponges when it comes to learning anything I can do to put more/bigger fish in my boat. I know you grew up in Indiana and I was wondering if you’ve ever fished Brookville lake? I’ve fished it quite a few times and have always struggled on these types of deep water fisheries. Of course there is structure and cover in the coves, but these fish are super pressured in those areas. Was wondering if you could narrow down crank bait fishing a little more or give any other tips for these specific types of lakes. If not in this comment thread, would love too see more content of you fishing some of these Ohio/Indiana fisheries.

    • @WheelerFishing
      @WheelerFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Gregory, thank you for the comment. I have fished Brookville lake but not for a few years. Typically if I were going to deep crank on that lake in would be in the upper half were the largemouth population was little stronger. Fishing points and deeper drops is where I would look first but then I would start to look for isolated structurer like a stump, a brush pile or a rock pile. The key with this is isolated, I’m not going to fish a Forrest of stumps I want the cover to be unique and irregular to that area to draw a few fish to use it.

    Hey Jacob, I always struggle every time I put fluro on my bait casters (back lashing non stop) and always end up peeling it off and going back to a braided line… is there a trick or something I’m missing when it comes to fluro? A video on this would be awesome

    • @WheelerFishing
      @WheelerFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Turn the line on its side so that it’s reeling onto the reel and wrapping the same way it was on the spool. If it’s opposite of that it will want to jump off

    • @michaelhowell2609

      The lower the gear ratio the more power the reel has which means the less resistance on the reel handle you will have when cranking all day. I use a 5.4.1 yes you have to reel fast but it’s effortless a high gear ratio will wear you out if you are cranking all day. Set up an 8 and a 6 gear ratio rod and you will see why he chooses a 6.8.1. Hope this helps
