- TIDRADIO seems to be one of those companies that is trying hard to be correct and manufacture proper items. At least, they do listen and do respond to users and accept comments!
This is their new model - super compact and very feature rich! First radio I know of that can be programmed using USB C and does not need a programming cable! Can also be programmed via Bluetooth using their free phone app!

I got mine this week and the keypad definitely illuminates
Yes, I know! The review was on a pre release unit. The new ones all light up! I will have a follow up review soon.
There is also an a/b button even on the pre release one he’s showing!
That's what I was thinking too! A melding of the H8 and H3 with a couple small additions would be a sure winner. Thanks for the great video!
One very neat feature of this tiny radio I saw is by holding on the "SQL" or #1 button, it will do a frequency search for near or nearby activity and it will show the frequency and even the tone! Then press the "*" to clear and reset. Cool.
👍👍👍
Thank you for this tip! I found out that by pressing the (menu) exit key cleared and reset. I have so many radios of different makes and each has something to love about them.
That's interesting, the model I just received just this week has an illuminated keypad, you may want to inquire about getting the latest version.
I have a back-lighted keypad also.
Thanks for the Video
You're welcome, I hope it helps!
I just watched another review on this radio from Ham Fam His had illuminated keypad ..Maybe they changed it
My TD-H3 keyboard is lit, so they must have changed it.
Im new to Ham... Still need to do my test but ive been watching a bunch of videos on a good beginner radio. Would you recommend this radio over the UV-5R?
It seems easier to program vs that radio. And the larger colour screen is a positive as well.
I own a lot of Baofengs, and some are good, some are great! However, if you are starting, I do recommend this unit from Tidradio, it is easier to program, either via USB C, or Bluetooth via phone. It is available on CHIRP, and the company is more responsive to customers, with firmware updates, and support. So YES, I do recommend this radio!
Wondering if you have come across this issue. I have the H3 (and H9) and 2 Baofeng (GM-T8 and UV-21 Pro v2). I configured a local GMRS repeater on all four radios: the rx/tx freq. the code D125N for both and only the Baofeng works properly. The two Tidradios turn on the display when people talk and I see the signal is strong (only 3 miles from me), but it doesn't come out the speaker. I checked the squelch and dropped it to 0 on H3/H9 (Baofengs are both SQL=3 go figure). If I hit the MONI the H3/H9 output the conversation. What am I missing?
Could you please check if this radio is compatible with UV-82 remote speaker microphone (the one with 2 keys)?
Hi, keypad from mine is illuminated ! Great radio, i will sell all my old Baofengs.
Yes, the new production model DOES have illuminated kaypad! I will have a second look review later on. I originally had a pre release version!
Do you know if the airband is compatible with the 8.33 kHz spacing?
7:15 Great review. Is airband RX only?
Yes!!
My keyboard is aluminated on mine .
It is on the new ones! My review was on a pre release version. I will do a follow up review soon!
I keep seeing a few people talk about the batteries being crap. New to gmrs and really leaning towards the tid h8 and hé
The early H8 had a battery problem (some of them not all) but this seems to have been taken care of ! The ones being sold now don’t have that problem. If size is a consideration, look at the H3, has even more features!
My h8 made me give away my uv17r. It has all the things you would want that the 17 seems to be missing
Do you have to buy a separate cable for programming or can you use the one that’s included?
I just used one of the many USB C cables I have laying around! Nothing special, just a generic charging cable. Works fine, and with CHIRP!
@@fittoat9261 Awesome thank you. Great video.
If possible, please create a video on step-by-step procedure correctly updating firmware on TH-H3 or H8? The only video I saw was an unsuccessful firmware update and ended up bricking radio. Thanks
I'll see about that, although there are a couple of vids out there that do firmware upgrades on Tidradio ...
As a private pilot in the USA, will this radio transmit on Airband? Also, what is the quality of receiving AM? These are two reviews that would be important to me. Thanks
Hello Karl, NO, this radio will NOT transmit on Airband. It does receive quite well though and I recommend getting an antenna that is better tuned to Airband for optimal reception.
@@fittoat9261 Will it receive military (UHF) air band in AM?
ffs Get yourself a proper airbound radio not cheap Chinese crap
*My keypad IS illuminated*
Yes it is, on all the newer ones, the original video was on a pre release model, and even that (after a firmware update) is also lit!
yes my are also and i just go the units.
What is the funtion of the 1 thru 5 at the top of the h3 screen ?
signal strength for RX
@@CliffRActually it's the output meter for TX.
Hello, my name is Jose and today I received the TH3 and I tried to connect to the Chipr and everything is fine but the problem is that it tells me that it does not accept writing the air frequencies, do you know if something needs to be enabled, thank you very much.
Until there is an update on this function in CHIRP, you may have to enter air frequencies manually.
@@fittoat9261 Ok, thank you so much..
I don’t have mine yet (tomorrow!) but I understand that air band has to be enabled in the menu. Sorry, I don’t know the menu number.
My keys do light up
Please ask them to Put the h3 in the h8;size and you have a real win!
Nice thought! I do find it a little small, but it is portable! Oh well, maybe the next one 👍
Any idea on how to unlock this thing? Doesn’t seem that it’s the same as the H8.
Not sure what you want to unlock? This radio comes unlocked to all frequencies it can transmit on (except Airband)
Disregard. I purchased the Ham version and was unable to program GMRS channels via chirp. I figured it out using the OD Master app. Thanks for the reply.
I think the one they sent you was a early version Seem the ones coming out now have backlit keypad ....
That is correct, I had an early pre release version, and am expecting the new one any day, after which I will probably do a second review with all the improvements!!!
Awesome
@@fittoat9261
Also, USB C charging should be on back NOT bottom, how did they miss that?
Size restrictions I would imagine!
Just got mine, unfortunately OD master programming isn’t working. Disappointing out of the box. I’ll have my unbiased review up soon, since I bought mine with my own $
ODMaster is having some problems with the new H3! However, it is on CHIRP! Talk to TID, they are very helpful!
Hows the airband receive?
Quite good actually!! I DO live next to an airport.
@@fittoat9261i just watched your video about the other hts airband receive. Hope would you rate this between those?
Actually, up there in the top ranks. Audio is clear and sounds pretty good.
Just junk now, no lighted buttons bummer
I actually reviewed a pre release version, and only recently received the production version which DOES have an illuminated keypad! And some improvements overall. I will be doing another update review soon on it.
It does have.
