What started from humble beginnings out of a garage in Charleston, Illinois has grown into a successful fast food chain that has over 2700 locations today. I personally want to thank you guys for the work you do to bring these delicious sandwiches to the public. I had my first Jimmy Johns sandwich a few months ago and I am OBSESSED! I don't know if it's the meat, the condiments or the freshness of the vegetables but I have never had such a delicious sandwich in my life! 🤤
I work at a jimmy johns, the Noah’s Ark isn’t called that. It’s called the double gut buster. Also, about the high calories, the sandwich she used an example of was a 16 inch. Of course it’s gonna have a lot of calories, it weighs like 3 pounds. Finally, about the lawsuits and what not, that’s just local franchises. I get paid a lot more than minimum wage and we get compensation for driving (.55 cents a mile). Also, they tell us not to go faster than the speed limit, that’s why they limit it to 5 minutes from the store so we can get it freaky fast without being unsafe.

A few years ago they opened up a few stores in New York City on Staten Island. In Staten Island there are a lot of great Italian delis. Because these delis have great sandwiches Jimmy John's was unable to complete. In less then two years Jimmy John's closed down the locations on Staten Island. Living in NYC it's very hard for Jimmy John's to complete with all the great local Mom and Pop delis.

Long island is ripe for JJ stores with all the Comeda eateries. It used to be full of deli's but now it's all steam tables and salad bars.

It's much less expensive to run a cold cut sandwich shop. Hot dog places usually have fried foods, and fryers are expensive. Plus whatever is needed to cook the hot dogs. He just started out with a bread oven and a slicer (which someone was selling super cheap because of their business shutting down, iirc)

Steve White you obviously don’t know what it’s like to work in the restaurant business. Depending on where you live, how you grew up, these types of jobs are sometimes the only options for people. I think they should get more respect. Some people can afford to go to school while others get 50,000 in debt, maybe more just trying. I know a lot of people who dropped out because they could not afford it and have so many student loans to pay off. I think the money should even out, instead of making the business owner a billionaire, the employees should get paid more and have health care.

At first I was happy to hear about his story, a sweet friendly looking young man finding success through hard work... but as the story unfolds, Jimmy seems a little shady, man.

Why do I need to know any of this before eating at Jimmy John's?
You may have to sign a "non-com-eat" clause, before eating there. You cannot eat any sandwich, made in any other sandwich shop, within 3 miles of Jimmy John's.
The relationship between the employer and employee is between them, I just want a good sandwich at a good price.

Because it means you support asshats who don't care about others. I was barely 20 and lost half my front teeth due to their negligence (slipping on wet patches they never put up a sign for) and now I get to live with dead teeth that barely hang in their sockets and are jagged and cause lots of pain when it comes to eating. They literally left me gushing blood on the floor, then told me to walk to the hospital, then tried to pay me off (stop me from taking them to court) with a job instead of paying to fix my teeth. You're basically saying "Hey, this is okay to do to someone!" when you support them.
I live in the country and don't get into a city with a JJ too often. But when I do, I usually buy a sandwich. As far as the politics of a restaurant goes, I couldn't care less, I like those sammiches... 😋🥖😋🥪😋

Here is the thing about locking in wages and the sandwich contract. JJ is usually around college towns and they try to hire college students, they do this because making a sandwich is not a career but is a way to make money while in school. Jobs like this are jobs and not a career.
As a employee of Jimmy John's I gotta say I 100% agree with you, there is no reason to see this as a long term job lol
I'll never understand how Jimmy John's has managed to stay in business much less "pressure" any other sandwich company....Third rate at the very best. I can make a better sandwich with bread, packaged meats, vegetables, and store brand sauces purchased from any well stocked major supermarket. And yes, I've tried Jimmy John's products, several times and found them wanting....Very, very wanting.

sprouts seem to be a bad crop to have in restaurants, this is the second time I heard about sprouts being the cause of a salmonella outbreak in a fast-food restaurant.

Owner also had a contest years ago. I can't remember the details but the prize was a year's worth of sandwiches. A customer actually won, so instead of a free sandwich a day, the owner had his staff make 365 extra sandwiches and deliver them to the guy's house. He got the food but what an asshholish way to do that.

2 months ago I decided to try Jimmy Johns because it was the only restaurant nearby. I'd always avoided it because I assumed it would be no different than Subway. So I ordered the hunters club, no cheese, add pickle, onion, and vinegar and oil and OMG! It was the greatest, most delectable sandwich I'd had in my life! Since then, Jimmy Johns sandwiches have become like cocaine to me. I have 1-2 everyday. I literally can't stop! 🤤
They can be very pricey. Lately I was quoted a 3 meat/4 vegetable sandwich that was over $15.

Unfortunately all these dirty labor practices are quite common throughout the restaurant world. I’ve been in the restaurant business for 28 years, 25 of those years in Management positions, and all these evils are pretty much standard operating for all restaurants.

Remember, if you live in an area where the sandwiches are delivered on bike, please PLEASE tip. Us drivers put our bodies through a lot to get you your sandwiches. Not to mention that in a lot of places, us bike drivers deal with TERRIBLE drivers, clueless pedestrians and even other entitled cyclists who make a fast delivery nearly impossible.
P.S. If you're in your car and about to pull up to a crosswalk, dont jut out and just stop in the crosswalk. Not only for pedestrians but kids on bikes, adults on bikes who use the sidewalk or crosswalk to feel safer, and anyone who can be blindsided.

My first JJ sandwich was terrible and poor service. Second was at a store 400 miles away from the first, results the same. There was never a third.
Yeah, so I'm an employee at jimm6 johns and while some of this may be true, it's not true from all jimmy johns places, also because of the coronavirus, we are not allowed to work if sick and we wear gloves more often and have mask's food is pretty good and it stays pretty clean.
