I actually like bezels on tablets. Makes it easier to hold them without touching the screen all the time, which is super annoying, when you watch something on it.

Yeah, I feel like wireless charging is a bit of a novelty at this point, especially regarding this device. Being as it's purpose to meant to be a budget e-reader, portable gaming unit and general purpose tablet, viewing comfort should be a bigger priority.

To expand on the wireless chargers they all work the same way. As long as it's a good brand it'll work with any device. Great review- I just picked one of these HD8 Plus up after trading in a couple '16 HD8 models (that were still being updated) and 2 '14 Samsung tablets that stopped receiving updates in '16. Overall I received $60 trade in credit and then Amazon took the 20% off they give you if you buy a new device. The HD 8 Plus is currently 89.99 so I received my new tablet for less than $15 dollars total and find it exceptional for what I use a tablet for (Reading, movies, browsing, news and light gaming). I downloaded the Google Play Store in four simple steps in less than 5 minutes (Google Android Police article for adding Google Play Store to Amazon Fire Tablets) and added my T-Mobile DIGITS and have everything I need. (like a 8 in phone/tablet around the house) What is better on the 8 in tablets vs. my HD10 (also very good) is the apps and how they render. On the HD8 Plus they are better. Last item to note I GREATLY appreciate the polycarbonate shell on these devices and the newer form factor of the '20 HD8 Plus vs. prior HD8 models. It's more like a iPad Mini now with relation to width to height and the camera is now perfectly placed for Zoom, video calls and or chats. If you are a Prime member, as I am, these truly are hard to beat performance to cost ratio.

Great review, as always! I'd really like to try one of Amazon's paper-white Kindle readers, because the display is supposed to just look like regular paper. The problem with reading books on a tablet like an iPad is the amount of blue light that you're getting that can interfere with sleep-at least it has with me.

Great initial review. Are you going to test out the lenovo M8 tab ZA5F0023US, has similar specs, 2.3 ghz processor and 3gb ram, cost 139.99 on their website.

I may be in the low 1% bracket using these devises for reading books - but I do have questions. I'm a Nook user. But B&N is moving away from color, and their latest tablet is way too big and heavy; so now I'm looking at the Kindle. (Business decision have consequences) So.. because I only want to use this for reading; the app icons on the desktop. Can they be deleted, leaving only an app / icon to buy books, from any on-line book seller, and an app / icon to browse your library, and of course an icon to continue reading the current book? AND BIG question: Is it possible to download Nook books into the Kindle?

BT 5.0 should play nice with the new Bluetooth 5.0 powered Mpow Flame V5.0 IPX7 entry level, sub $20 Bluetooth headphones. Or with the Flame S, also Bluetooth 5.0 but also aptX HD for better sound quality. With BT 5.0 on both tablet and earphones, the tablet should display remaining battery in the earphones.

Can you use either PS4 Remote Play or PSPlay Unlimited and use a DualShock 4 controller on this tablet? What about using Moonlight for Game Streaming, how does it handle the hardware h.265 decoding?

I noticed you had Real Racing 3 installed as well - was it playable? I have the previous gen of this tablet, and although it would install RR3, it couldn't actually run it (or a lot of other games).

If you overclock the cpu you can squeeze more performance out of it and the hd8 can handle the extra heat 🙂

These tablets look a bit glitchy at times. Is that normal until proper cache is loaded,or something else?

The only reason I have an Fire Tablet is because I got a 2 for 1 on QVC, I gave the other to my nice for Christmas. I won't buy another. For some reason it no longer wants to connect to the internet outside of my home which makes it worthless for travel. None of the fixes I've found on the internet works and customer service was worthless as well. I guess you get what you pay for.

Where do you get these video game emulators and games?

Would this be good for a University Student? I'm looking for something I can download some books, slides and PDFs so I don't have to carry my laptop all the time? As well as some media consumption on my free time.
