  • A rainy but mostly successful activation of Mt Disappointment, north of Melbourne. With David VK3KR and Peter VK3TPM, we took HF, and 2m SSB and CW to the 2600 ft/800m summit on a wet and cold winters day, in a break in the rain. However, the rain got steadily worse, and ... well, we went home wet and soggy!
WARNING! Don't go activating in the rain like we did. Wait a few days and go out in the subshine instead!

Great video Paul. Looks like the VK7 weather gods have been in VK3 too! Keep up the good work mate

It was a rain band of Tasmanian proportions. Don't let it put you off backing your luck for a quick activation between rain showers. 73 Paul VK3HN.

I seen the spot go up yesterday, and thought you were keen in this weather, but I understand the feeling after another round of being housebound

Yes, you go when you can. We hoped to dodge the showers, and we did at first, but the second front caught us!

Ahh, just like HOME! Just south of 'rain city', Seattle Washington.

Never been to Seattle, I'm told it's climate is similar to Melbourne in some ways. Hope to get there some day.

@@Paul_VK3HN the weather here has been progressively getting a bit more extreme lately, hotter and drier summers and colder winters. Averages about 308 partial or fully cloudy days out of the year. Fall and winter tends to be a fine and pleasant misery of grey wet days, hovers around 4°c through winter but might get a month worth of 20°c+ weather before it starts getting colder out again.

You should have hiked up a canopy to tie up for rain cover. Yikes 😱

That would have been good, but we didn't plan to spend all that long on the summit. Oh well, all's fair in every kind of weather. Or something like that.
