  • Taki loves shredding popcorn. He only shreds very soft items such as plain unflavored/unseasoned popcorn, balsa wood, and mahogany pod slices. He doesn't currently enjoy shredding paper or cardboard, but he's starting to open up to the idea. He will not touch pine or any other harder woods. Sometimes he will chew on seagrass mats, but only when placed in very specific locations in his cage.
This popcorn has NOTHING on it. I made it at home in the microwave using a brown paper bag and unflavored, unseasoned corn kernels with no oil. Store bought bags of popcorn contain a chemical coating on the inside of the bag that is toxic to birds. Please avoid popping store bought popcorn around your birds. Cold pressed, organic coconut oil in small amounts is safe for birds if you want to pop popcorn for them using a small amount of oil.
It is widely known that many birds, especially those in the cockatoo family, can have allergies to corn which can cause birds who do have a corn allergy to display aggressive behavior and/or plucking if given corn on a regular basis. Please strictly limit the amount of popcorn you give your birds. Taki only shreds 4 or 5 pieces of popcorn once a month or so. Popcorn is a treat, and treats given daily are no longer treats- then they are part of the diet.
